I mean, yes. They were colonists, not immigrants.

(to be clear, that's not me defending them. Colonizing a populated region IS an invasion)

I think it would be fair to say Europeans invaded the Americas by any conventional concept of "invasion."

Is anyone saying otherwise? It's pretty clear that European colonization and the Manifest Destiny were "invasions". I'm old, but we certainly talked about that in my history classes. The Trail of Tears, moving people to reservations, pushing into that reserved land. We learned about it. It was part of the curriculum. Knowledge of that history is a part of why we don't want folks showing and trying to establish Sharia Law. Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

I don't want Sharia Law either, but the people who tend to be most Islamophobic are also the ones who want religion to be taught in schools and to take away the rights of women and minorities. We needn't worry about immigrants bringing Sharia Law in this country. The president and his so-called "Religious Liberty Commission" are doing it for us.

I don't want any religion taught in schools. Looks like I got my family out of Texas just in time. My youngest still has as a bit more high school. It's my understanding the Sharia Law thing is becoming a big issue in some European countries. Then again, I haven't heard anything about it a while. There always going to be a balance between freedom and integration. You should be free to speak whatever language you want, but you need to be able to live and work in the society you love in.

Oops! "live in" not "love in".

Nothing against your actual point, just a reminder that saying Sharia Law is a lot like saying ATM Machine.

I wasn't aware of that. That's interesting. It's like chai tea.
