For that matter, would a planet that had a twin not be a planet if its twin was slightly larger? This criteria seems highly arbitrary.
But that still begs the question as to why this criteria needs to exist. Why does a celestial body need to be the dominant gravitational body in order to be a planet at all? What if Pluto *was* big enough (and round enough) to be a planet, but Charon was slightly bigger? Would that mean that Pluto couldn't be a planet despite checking off all the rest of the boxes?
I mean I feel like I'm missing something. I can't think of a scenario where a "planet" wasn't the dominant gravitational body in its orbit but it WAS big enough, WAS round enough, and all the other stuff as well. Even in the Pluto/Charon example, I would think that if two bodies that were big enough to be planets occupied the same orbital region, their gravity would interfere with each other, causing them to either change their orbits or crash into each other.
Thanks to Neptune, Pluto and all its moons only account for 0.012% of the mass in their orbital range. It's hard to emphasize just how small Pluto is - When Kuiper determined it was 100 times smaller than Tombaugh measured he was still over by a factor of 50.
Often overlooked is that it didn't meet the requirements for a planet at the time, either, but when Kuiper determined it wasn't a planet it was saved by a rule astronomy held at the time that a new category required two example objects, and Pluto was unique until Sedna was discovered. The rules were tweaked, and then it was determined Pluto didn't meet the new requirements either, but they discovered Charon so an exception was allowed because it had a moon.
Eris has a moon (Dysnomia), is nearly as large as Pluto, and is more massive than Pluto. Any categorization that includes one must include both, and any that excludes one must exclude both. Also, Pluto's entire tenure as a "planet" is not only a mere 30% of its own 'year' (76 years out of 248), it also falls completely within the life spans of Betty White and Queen Elizabeth II (and millions of others, because 76 really isn't that extreme for humans).
Then we started finding asteroid moons all over the place, but Pluto was still saved by being unique. The point was quietly ignored after Seda was discovered and finally addressed when it was accepted that either Pluto was *not* a planet, or 30+ other objects *were,* including three that were already demoted before Pluto was even discovered. It still took so long to decide that it was no longer a question of 8-or-30, but 8-or-350, and it's now 8-or-741 via Mike Brown's master catalog.

It's not the only criterium. A planet must also be in hydrostatic equilirium (round form), that most asteroids don't have.
