I always upvote these. Even if it's an "ad", if it looks good, I am grateful to you for bringing it to my attention. Anybody that takes the side of Imgur parent company, MediaLab.AI Inc., over a bunch of creative indie developers can actually fuck off. If your game looks shit, you can fuck off. Game looks nice btw.
Insufferables. There was this guy talking about how the ads are standing in the way of them enjoying imgur. But then I checked their comments and they were filled with "this is an ad comment" meme as far as I could scroll. It was bordering on mental illness.
In a moral battle between imgur parent MediaLab.AI Inc. and a small indie team of devs, I will ALWAYS side with the devs. It's actually bullshit that guides should need to be written. People should be able to post their shit here for us to rate. What is the problem?
It's the existence of the guide that kind of tells you what the problem is. Whenever I see a cool piece of indie game content on imgur, the first thing I do is click on the username to see whether the person who posted it is actually an imgurian or has only created an account solely to promote something. If they have no other posts or comments, I treat it like a selfie.
I don't see why people are siding with the corporate owned imgur that has downgraded our QoL on the app in the past year and forced ads down our throat - but when an indie dev wants to show off something, even if it can be perceived as an ad..what's the issue? The big rich corporation didn't get a piece of the pie? You weren't forced to view the post, the actual ads the app forces on you - they're totally okay tho. Corporate simping mindset lives on
I really do hope all the simps muttering "at least it's not some big studio" drown in the incessant flow of these ads their indifference has created. Another generic game advertising itself poorly disguised as content. Drink up bois, you earned it.
But people are allowed to post their paintings and organize commissions here? Maybe you are woried Imgur parent company MediaLab.AI Inc. will lose out on some ad money from a small bunch of indie creatives? This is also definitely not the place for that.
A regular Imgur user who also posts their stuff, game or otherwise: cool. A game company that makes a "just a small indie dev :)))" account purely to post a few ads? Not cool.
In this case it's justified. But there are some ad police on imgur that only target game devs and their comments tab is filled with comments with this meme or the scrn shot of that site. It's discriminating and a nuisance and just as bad as the ads.
I give any indie dev a pass, corporate behemoths can pay their own damn advertising but three-person studios are running on less than a shoestring budget.
Dude, this is a passion project. of three people. it looks amazing. why are you so butthurt about them posting their work on here. Celebrate creativity, don't knock them down for not having the cash to pay for ads.
It's funny coz I noted that I'll soon post the progress of my game on imgur as someone who's been interacting with the community but some still didn't like hearing it and received an outlash that ad is ad. No, it doesn't matter if you're a long-term member there are a lot of ad police who absolutely hate your guts if you post anything game dev related. The irony is I never see them on those etsy posts, I guess if a beautiful woman is posing with their work it's ok. Imgur is a social media -
social media is known for self-promo and yes - albeit this post may be ad - self-promo isn't an ad, exact same as those etsy posts I do like to support here on imgur. I'm a part time solo game designer with a programmer I pay monthly. I can barely afford even that and social media is a good place to self-promo. So pls stop discriminating between game devs and etsy shops and really consider their story.
and that's nothing more than pure speculation on your part. there's a large chance most of the assets used were purchased off of common marketplaces for indie devs
Same, but I'm not totally convinced about that rule. Do we really need to treat single developers in their first steps, the same way we treat corporations? (I have zero personal investment on the topic, just have doubts)
The company has 4 employees. Assets can be bought or you can use default assets. By comparison, Valheim launched off a 5-man team, and it's far more developmentally complex.
It's not, and some of you fucks can be really rude to artists here too. A very kind, shy artist person shared her art during Art Walk or whatever it was called, then people were really mean to her about it and she left Imgur and dropped off the planet into a pit of depression for six months. It was heartbreaking. Over some flowers in a jar. I'm still incensed about it and rage against mean people here.
I don't get this attitude at all. I support small indie developers, and the fact is, they can't afford to pay for adds. Do you have the same attitude towards the other people showing what they do, like artists and craftsmen? Or is it purely people whose craft is games you dislike?
They didnt create the graphic engine. It's totally doable to make a beautifull game with a small crew. It's other aspect that are hard. Especially with high end graphic, everything around will be more complex
It's people who are here to sell shit. But you're right, if they're just showing off, it's fine. I think the issue is selling and pretending. It would be one thing if they were showing off their progress, regular posts, "hey, we started our dream job, here's some of what we're doing, just starting!" Kinda thing, and progress, because they were community members from the start just sharing with ppl, yeah, that's cool. But, no posts, then an ad? Hey op, get fucked.
What rules? The rules that say shit ass corps like Imgur parent MediaLab.AI Inc. somehow need more money? Imagine siding with corporate interests over indie creatives on fucking Imgur. Or the rule that says if we let one do an "ad", then they will all try and do an "ad"? Sounds like a problem for usersub, and literally the way this community is designed.
I have an ad block because I don't want see ads. Other people pay for emerald cuz they don't want to see ads. No one gives a shit about the parent companies profit margins.
I find it equally hilarious and insane that the Twitch/Prime Gaming rewards for that game are still going, and it’s literally just nail polish for your character. Like, who thought of that lol
Wow, in your shitastic effort to defend the game, you just spoiled the whole game ensuring even more people won't play it. Congratulations you stupid fucking nematode xD
I don't even know what game this is, but from a writer's perspective, that sounds like a really poorly written twist. "The real bad guy was on your wrist the entire time!". Also, which is it? Did she give in and kill the world leader as a plot device only to not give in to the subtle influences during gameplay, or did she actually resist killing the world leader? Because like, if she killed the world leader but was able to resist the LESSER manipulations, that's shitty writing.
This sort of writing is what happens when you have a great team if writers make a good basis for a story, then the guys in suits, aka Square Enix, decides it's not good enough and dumbs it down. That's how Forspoken happened.
Of course you do. Because none of you even played the game. You let social influencers tell you have to feel about it. Now you guys are still circle jerking about a really good game. Just like the Last of Us Part II. You guys are snowflakes.
People are allowed to not like the things you like. It's ok. Also, the slang term "Snowflake" means someone who is unable to deal with an opposing viewpoint and who is easily offended. That sounds like your reply to their opinion, not their opinion itself, doesn't it? "None of you even played the game." sounds a lot like "you're not a real fan". I'm sure you like the game, but there's no reason to believe that your opinion is worth more than anyone else's. Grow up.

AlwaysDownvoteDots
Or they lurk and only bother commenting on ads, in which case it would be pretty disappointing how many ads make it through.
pareidoliaperson
Not make it through, but they are either ignored or accepted because they're non-game dev related. Discriminating really.
ILikeRespondingWithWillSmithGifs
I Don’t find this far fetched. It was used very well in the split gate
CthulhuIsRisen
Now you're thinking with portals!

Because uncommon websites are likely a heuristic in Imgur's antispam system.
Icecreaman
They shadowban most comments with links that aren't from the top 10 websites I find. Tinyurl instantly blocked etc
CandleToad
Good to know, thanks.
CandleToad
Maybe to stop giving people ideas? But it's out there. Calling it out brings attention to how disingenuous it is, it doesn't support it.

Nice, there's not enough innovative use of magic in games. So many spells in D&D have never been done in a video game.

Open world games pre-load chunks of map as you walk around so that it is loaded by the time you get there. Easy to apply to portals.
