my favorite bit in DS9 is that Alexander Siddig was married and actively trying to have a baby with Nana Visitor and when she got pregnant IRL, but didn't have a love interest in the show, the writers made Chief O'Brien's wife Keiko get pregnant and then get hurt so Kira could be the surrogate while they had Bashir being the bro husband of Chief O'Brien. In short, this character only exists and has 5 uncredited appearances because Siddig knocked up Visitor:
