Well, if I'm consciously making that choice, that would make me automatically the one who's aware and okay with it. An unaware citizen would probably be the best choice though.

I was just thinking about the ethics of meat products in Busy Town. If all the animals and some of the worms were intelligent then you wouldn't be able to eat anything, would you?

Yeah I mean I grew up with pretty basic rules like "Try to help people" and "be honest" and then I find out that doing the opposite makes you more successful

I have to say that I ended up being pretty successful in both my career and personal life, and I've found both those things to help me as well. The trick is to identify those people who will take advantage of your help and abuse it, and move on. Often helping something won't help you, but every once in a while you'll get it back tenfold

I am a kind, helpful, generous person both naturally and because I believe that is part of being a good person. That generosity has led to me being taken advantage of by abusive people in the past. I am learning how to set boundaries and understand that my generosity can be retracted just as easily as it was originally given.

Yup, I work for a not for profit and make a solid living. There's a lot of stress, but that's mostly on me for caring about my work, because it's a not for profit and we genuinely try and help people.

To be fair I think it is fairly common. I know it can feel like it's not. But when I worked at a shopping mall and my coworkers would get down about how "customers are ALWAYS so mean" and "The whole world stinks" I'd point out that sure, we deal with a couple of total dick customers per shift, but the other few thousand people are polite and fine and don't cause any problems. It's just so easy to focus on the ones who ruin all of our days.

Not to mention society exists because as a species we tend to cooperate and look after each other until situations are dire. The problem is that so many people are in dire situations AND are made to believe, through massive decades long propaganda efforts, that they're in even worse situations than they are. It's all very fixable, and people tend to revert back to a more sociable state once away from said propaganda much quicker than you'd think.
