To experience the world as a toddler must be a frikking ride. I’m so fascinated by this and many more phenomenons around toddlers. I’m a first time mom to a 2,5yo boy and he truly does amaze me every day with things he observe and learn from and especially for little boys machinery seems to be extremely interesting. I mean I hadn’t even mentioned the word “car”, still he loved looking at cars even as a baby. We walked past a digging site - hardly could leave at all! 😂
I remember walking to school and stopping to watch the heavy equipment. When asked why I was late I told the teacher and she immediately had everyone put on their coats and we all walked down to see the Caterpillars and then we all had to write an essay about what we saw. EDUCATION at its best.
While I do believe in curriculum, I also firmly believe that learning is learning as well, and that especially with younger kids there should be equal parts class based but also flexible learning like this. Different people learn different ways, and also being cooped up in a classroom nonstop just sucks.
I had to service an excavator outside of a primary school a few months back, the kids were watching on recess and I figured I needed to do a function test anyways so I did a few little spins in it to entertain the little guys, made my day.
Probbaly made theirs to. They always watch the cranes and metal fab guys when our work sites are near them. And old people. They will just ask to walk in the site and look around at things but they get upset when you tell them no. Yes Janice I know there are some cool looking rocks and shells coming outta the excavator but you can not be sifting through the spoils pile while 3 cubic yards of rain down sporadically you will get squished.
I would not be surprised at all if this was the train of thought. We've had joggers just go around barriers while on the beach. "Sir you cant be here we are actively pile driving" he yelled "Fuck you I live here." Cool man but you getting killed because you ignored all our barriers and our spotters wont result in a pay out because of your willfull negligence. Infact im sure they will rule it a suicide because if the stupidity.
It does but sometimes it brings me joy. Like I was directing traffic holding th stop sign because we were having semi trucks come in and out. She stopped said why the stop i said we have trucks bringing in equipment in and out ahe said ok then took off and almost t boned the semi then looked shocked a truck we just talked about appeared out of thin air.
