Fun fact! This gag doesn’t work in Japanese as their equivalent is “pushing the wind”

Combine that with traditional Japanese mythology placing the soul somewhere near the colon and...

My thought process: Sick pokemon > spreading disease in game to making catching pokemon easier > Pokemon plague > Zombie pokemon
Xenarion
Funnily enough, there is a disease in Pokémon, called Pokérus, that can spread between the pokémons on your team. But instead it makes them learn faster (as in, double the EVs they gain)

pokeballs are supposed to only catch pokemon. this raises the question of virus pokemon existing
skwint
The way those things evolve I'd be surprised if one didn't

Porygon Z is technically a messed up Porygon 2 upgrade ... Also pokerus (was) a thing
PerpetuityPhoto
In one of the pokemon games, they straight up come out and say that humans ARE pokemon.
Keibrina
Diamond and Pearl in the library. The wording was changed for international release. The original text roughly translated into "There was once a time when Humans and Pokémon were the same. They would sometimes intermarry and have families together."
donkeymoney
OK that's enough internet for today...
Radix865
In the "fan arts" they most definitely are not just for pokemon...
Xenarion
That's a different type of pokéball called the mastur-ball
PerpetuityPhoto
I just wanna know how they got all those pokeballs connected with a string...
dav1deser
Well, it's not a pokemon, but there is pokerus, since second gen I believe.
Kehy
It does still exist, and it's very good to have, but very rare
josieexplosion
I got it on a copy of Sapphire with a broken timer, so it just hangs around.
Xenavire
I believe it was removed in Scarlet and Violet actually - which is a real shame, honestly.
Kehy
I don't play the modern games so it's all good lol. I've got B&W2, but gen 3 is more my jam
Dxb105
When I was a kid I got it on a pokemon. I didn't know what it did or how rare it was until years later. I can't remember if it was in emerald or crystal though. It's 3 in 65,536 (or approximately a 1 in 21,845) chance

I vaguely remember Ash trying to catch a Pokemon, but it threw a donut or something and the ball caught that food.
Ghlargh
Rules in comedy can only be broken if 1. it's absolutely necessary for the plot or 2. if it's really funny.
Xenavire
So what's the excuse for that episode?
Ghlargh
The writer was high, thinking about donuts and thought it was really funny probably.
Xenavire
That's... Actually not that out there as a theory. Apparently the guy who wrote the first few seasons and movies had substance abuse problems. I'm not sure about the exact details, but it might explain the donut gag. (Although wasn't it a rice ball? My memory is a little fuzzy.)

But those are double helices. RNA is a single helix. Are we supposed to believe this is some kind of "magic molecule?" Boy, I hope somebody got fired for that blunder.
Akasharoo
RNA can come in single or double helix form. As such there are + strand RNA viruses (SARS COV 2), - strand viruses (Ebola), and double strand RNA viruses (reovirus).
Helpmeimdiene
There're also double stranded DNA viruses e.g. Herpes
FireSolvesProblems
It's actually more likely it's 4 separate strands of RNA wrapped around each other to look like DNA. Kinda wish I knew more about cellular biology & viruses, this could be a fascinating rabbit hole to explore.
Xenarion
Well it's alien.
bridgebrain
Which both makes sense, and is alway crazy. Makes sense that pokemon are extraterrestrial in origin, but it also means the universe is teeming with life, and it can be caught in a pokeball
vegivamp
Oh no no no, in-universe, Pokemon are not extraterrestrial at all. In fact, humans also used to be Pokemon, and thus eating Pokemon is akin to cannibalism. If I remember that game theory episode right.
mooseend8888
Also an animated imaginary creature. But rabbitholez are fun!

*SOME common cold viruses are coronaviruses. MOST common cold viruses however are rhinoviruses
kerrigan778
There is no THE common cold virus, the common cold can be caused by several different viruses.
Akaszkronos
It's not common then, is it.
xizar
Given that "the common cold" refers to a array of symptoms common to all of those infections...
kerrigan778
Written reference to an illness akin to the common cold is over 3000 years old, the term "cold" for the illness began about 500 years ago, the cause of the common cold was discovered just 70 years ago.

Stupid sexy covid-chan
yalczero
Someone needs to do a video like that but about the 1918 flu. Corona-chan may be cute but Flu-chan could crush her with her thighs.
KingXizor
While covid is roughly a tenth as deadly as the 1918 flu as currently reported, over the next few decades data review may show sars-covid-19 was 2-4 times as deadly as currently recorded if not worse. Deaths are wildly under-reported in countries that are trying to be honest, and for ones like China? Yeesh.
