It was a case of mistaken identity: there was no way to tell the journalists apart from reported RPG crews in the area: they had no identifying clothing to show they were press. As for the van there's no way they could have known there were kids in the back: it looked like insurgents picking up their wounded fighters. It's absolutely a tragedy, but it was Fog of War and not "target practice".

Personally i dont really care if they are doing it for a tax writeoff. They almost certainly are not getting as much money back as they donate, and then we get a new hospital or feed more hungry people.
The money they've hoarded was taken from the cities, counties, states, and countries they exploited. The people should have had the money through wages and taxes they could have used towards those things.
