Michelle Carter - 1st US Medal since 1960 and 1st Gold ever - Women's shot put

She beat out New Zealander Valerie Adams who was trying to 3-peat olympic gold in the shotput, but won out on her final throw of the games, setting a new US record in the process, earning the first US medal since 1960 and bringing home the first Ever US gold in women's shotput. Pretty fucking great.

Wow, that's awesome! Great job!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And she did it wearing earrings and lipstick. Nice.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Her right boob looked like it wanted to rip itself off and fly..

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 4

This deserves more points

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Amazing that the US hasn't won a single medal since 1960. You've really outdone yourself this year.

10 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

I also thought the title was misleading. By just a little bit.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

OP even says it again in the description.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's called, "Click Bait".

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Man, that girl is STRONG. Great job and congratulations!!

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Her face at the end makes it. Way to go Michelle!

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

I was about to say the same thing but you said it first so +1

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I went to high school with her. I'm amazed and proud of her and her accomplishments!

10 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 3

That was perfect. Well done Michelle!

10 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

See the officials walking in to mark the spot where the shot landed? That's my goal. Imgur, I will officiate field events at the Olympics.

10 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

I'd be scared to stand that close to the throwing lane

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That New Zealander was Valerie Adams.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

can someone do an analysis on her biomechanics in this video and post it?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's my friend's cousin!

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Just to be clear, its the 1st us medal since 1960 and 1st ever gold in this particular discipline right?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, and by a woman.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

that title is misleading to the unaware

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

how do her boobs not get in the way

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Seriously. I can't even turn over at night because of that shit

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

can we talk about the two officials standing like a metre away from the impact point? The must have shotput's for balls.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I had to close one eye watching the shotput coming at them.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can someone Photoshop a Dragonball Z blast??

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That push off! This woman has some powerful legs!

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

No hope for her kids when she takes off her flip flop.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

LOL

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How do people get into these sports I haven't even heard of half the shit they do on summer olympics

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Well, here in the west, Oregon, Washington, and of cource CA, all have huge track & field programs, and with Nike, it is a big deal in Or.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do your high school not have track and field?? Shot disc and javelin are all part of track and field...

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

No we didn't my grad class was only 40 something kids

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, lingering interest from doing high school track and field

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's pretty fuckin' great how she jumps from one edge of the circle to juuust inside the far edge on the throw. Serious muscle memory there.

10 years ago | Likes 351 Dislikes 8

It's even more impressive in the hammer throw. They spin so fast from one end of the circle to the other, it's insane.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Trust me bud, its hard Ive been competing in shot for 4 years it looks easy, but a centimeter of difference where your feet are makes it all

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It is cut off in the .gif, but there is a metal bar at the edge of the circle. If you cross over that, your shot is disqualified.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

And then just BARELY holds her balance to keep her momentum from carrying her out!

10 years ago | Likes 88 Dislikes 0

Also baby got back.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Did shotput in high school. Had a great coach who taught us to do that. It becomes second nature, but her form looks absolutely flawless.

10 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

Stays low and loaded on her legs. Extends, then converts hand to build additional rotational momentum. Keeps the shot tucked...

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Fires legs, hips, core, and arm throw so smoothly. Releases at just the right angle and you can see the momentum keeps her spinning.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Absolutely beautiful to watch. I wish I had this gif back when I was learning form.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's her job. And she's doing it fine.

10 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 3

well not just fine, she won gold, so she did her job amazingly well

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Right? Every Olympian has practiced, they've all got muscle memory. Maybe I'm just having a cynical poop.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

That's the easy part. You could memorize that after a couple minutes of attempts, the hard part is throwing it so damn far

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

You can learn it quickly, but it takes at least a season to get to the point where you don't even think about it.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I agree. I did shot put for a few months and never broke 10m.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And that was with balls just over a third the weight of Olympic ones.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Women's balls are lighter than than men's balls. Which balls were you rubbing and how do they compare to what Michelle is putting here?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeeessss. Rub the ballzzz

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm pretty sure they were 2.5 kilos, against men's 7.2. Women I think have 4 kilo shots. Pretty impressive on her part regardless.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's really nice to see a female athlete succeeding in a sport that doesn't require the body stature of a prepubescent boy

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 5

Pretty sure there are more sports that don't require that body type than do. That is - unless you know a lot of thick ass children.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Check out the woman that won bronze in pistol. She looks like your average mom from the mid west.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's... Actually exactly what I'd expect someone medaling in shooting to look like.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And think. If she went to your average gym here in the States, there'd be a couple meatheads in the corner snickering over the 'fat bitch'.

10 years ago | Likes 77 Dislikes 6

Until she delivered that upper cut and launched one into the next state.

10 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 1

Who would then promptly be thrown through the glass by her!

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

She'd certainly be able to tell them otherwise anyway!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wasn't there a thread on this only yesterday? People don't really do that.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Oh, but they do. I'm an athlete and, if you've watched any of the women's diving or swimming, we are generally stocky. I went to the gym 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

2/3 last winter for a vinyasa cool down and some weekend warrior bros made fun of how I must not come there very often because I looked like

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

3/4 "A fat bitch who needed to put down the milkshake." I gave them the eyebrow, then stripped off my sweats and watched them stare as I

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Proceeded to blast through the class while they huffed and puffed from exertion on downward facing dog.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Actually, the post was about someone doing exactly that. Just that others overheard and told them off. That doesn't always happen.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

AW SHE BEAT VALERIE ADAMS?!!

10 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 3

I was randomly watcing it last night knowing nothing about shot put but I remember thinking there was no way she was going to beat Adams

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah. Fuck

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

She has had a hard time since post op. The USA gurl had one amazing throw. But otherwise she was 1m behind Adams top two throws.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

Holy shit. I forgot about the surgery, that's pretty impressive

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

There were several. She's had knee, shoulder and elbow surgeries in recent years.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Last time Val got it back because the winner was on drugs?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ooh I remember that

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah pretty guttered about that, we love our Val....bit still happy with a silver

10 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 2

Silver? Fuck yeah I'm ok with that

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yeah mang but Val was still post Op, she got silver so I don't think we (including Val) can complain about that. Good on Michelle Carter.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

pretty gutted! lets hope the rowers do it tonight!

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

We always cane in that

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

woooo Mahe

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, some "New Zealander". Name would've been nice context.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yanks don't pay attention to anything outside their country which doesn't have oil

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I'm a yank and I know who Val is.... Steven's sister! ;-)

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In retrospect, I feel bad about that. But not arsed enough to go back and edit.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Her father is Michael Carter. Only person to win a Super Bowl and an Olympic medal within twelve months.

10 years ago | Likes 431 Dislikes 4

Something something you're sexist for mentioning a man something something

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 20

Has anyone ever said that or are you that desperate to circlejerk?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

She's also married to John Carter

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

From the movie!?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No, from Mars!

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

He also holds the national high school shot record, at over 81 feet!

10 years ago | Likes 98 Dislikes 0

Holy shit!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What the fuck

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

He set the record in 1979. The fact that it still stands makes it one of the greatest records in all of sports.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I bet he also made three touchdowns in his high school football career, in one game!

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Polk High?

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

They need to make an Olympic Sport where people see how far they can throw feathers.

10 years ago | Likes 1574 Dislikes 8

but steel is heavier than feathers :(

Everything is heavier in the future, Marty

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Send help i cant stop laughing at the thought of this.

10 years ago | Likes 101 Dislikes 5

Bonus points if you can get the crowd to laugh

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also a race where they have to run in waist high water.

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Insert golf clap

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

basically my result would be the human version of this http://imgur.com/pjLIMmM

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

only if they do it in a vacuum

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

With a spherical cow

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Badmitton, I think there's a video explaining it.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I can throw them pretty far if they're attached to a goose.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Stop. Stupid

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd just blow on it, I could get a few meters by doing that

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They already have this. Its called politics.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Archery?

10 years ago | Likes 80 Dislikes 4

They haven't used feathers in a long time though, and it's not really throwing.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 8

No that would be cheating, no bows. Just throw a plain feather by hand.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I would fucking pay to watch this lmao

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You mean how far you can throw a bird

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Here you go: /a/2JGKm

10 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 2

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

FUCKING HELL

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Amazing.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A pound of feathers

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nah, a pound of bricks, it's clearly heavier

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It would not take long before someone found a technique that worked. I would actually be interested to see what ideas people came up with.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Well, it's obvious, right? You throw a large group at once. Preferably attached to the chicken.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

And instead of throwing you use a canon! Evolution of the sport amirite?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Chicken cannon! Just remember to thaw them first.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well shooting a gun is a fucking olympic sport somehow, even though that requires very very little physical activity.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I love how she looks just like someone's mom you would see at the mall. Which is great because it shows you don't have to look like (1/2)

10 years ago | Likes 598 Dislikes 16

Different physiques for different events.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

She does make up for a living. This def not her life

10 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 1

Shot putters have a rather large upper body mass. It may look like all fat, but the majority is insanely strong muscle.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

She's what you'd call 'strongfat' - looks, overweight, but insanely strong. Look at world's strongest men, they're all big like that. It's..

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

...just not very common for women, whereas you see it in guys all the time.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Heh, it's also not common for people to believe women are strongfat. I'm a strongfat. :p

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

She reminds me of Shirley from Community https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUQ1LXCA6t0

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I'd feel bad for her kids if she had to spank them. That shit would be indented

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I like idea that she has to deal with some suburban mum bullshit, like someone is stealing her son's sandwiches at school, but she just 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 95 Dislikes 0

She got lots of practice with her shoes and kids that tried to be out of range of said shoes.

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

She's the LA CHANCLA regional champion.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Solves problems by hauling cannonballs at them. 2/2

10 years ago | Likes 105 Dislikes 0

In the Olympics the men's shot weighs 7.260 kilos (16.01 lb), and the women's shot weighs 4 kilos (8.8 lb). It'd teach them a lesson anyway.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 14

cannon balls went from 3 inch 1.8kg shot all the way up to nearly 7 inch 18.9kg balls, IDK the relevance of the stats you're giving me 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

I wouldn't want to get hit by any of them. 2/2

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

a Greek God to win a gold medal. (2/2)

10 years ago | Likes 365 Dislikes 5

Well all you need for this sport is to put as much weight behind a ball as possible and muscle memory.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 16

Not true buddy. You need LOT's of muscle, the weight of that fat also helps, hence why she has it.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Well. Fucking. Said. Seriously this made me rethink some shit.

10 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 3

Very fucking true. But Greek god training was still involved for her, as no non Greek god could ever do what she done

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I bet she can throw one hell of a punch.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I would love to see that.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

she got dat momentum

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I mean it's shotput

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Strength is about muscle not fat percentage. Cover Adonis in enough fat and he'd look generic American.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Like from sponge bob??

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

but it helps

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The strength and power it requires still involves enormous training like a Greek god physique

10 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 0

Exactly. This lady could probably toss either one of us like a our name was Gimli.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I remember I tried shotput in high school. I was a dumbass and thought "how hard could it be? I can throw basketballs across the court."

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I still remember when I tried out for shot put thinking the same thing.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

TYRONE!! Don't forget your lunch!!! *throw*

10 years ago | Likes 107 Dislikes 5

Fuck dude. Haven't laughed that hard in a while.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

God bless you +1

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My son, he a natural. [stretches up] AIN'T YOU, TYRONE?!

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Shot put'ers are usually pretty big.

10 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Most good shot putters look like that anyway. Something about being chubby makes it easier I guess?

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Something about that body fat shifting around, I suppose.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fat and muscle are fed by nearly the same things. You can't put on tons of muscle without putting on fat. If being lean isn't important, 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

then they just bulk up for the muscle mass. 2/2

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1
