They can't break down tough raw vegetation, but cooking makes the nutrients in safe veggies more bioavailable. One thin slice of this sweet potato would be a great treat for a cat. I don't think nature works entirely like that. Most animals are at least a little omnivorous. Herbivores will occasionally eat meat or chew bones, carnivores benefit from the occasional plant. It's just their primary nutrition needs, day to day shit

Sugar is pretty meaningless as far as causing harm, not much different than any other simple carb. I don't remember if purple sweet potatoes have more or less fibre than regular, but it's probably a decent amount either way. That cat's gonna have a huge shit
