She didn't stay composed at all. She kept breaking down in laughter to the point that they told her after many takes, that they only had enough tape for one more. Which is the take we see here.
Uuuh do people not know women act and are funny? She wasn’t actually surprised and struggled to stay in character, she was acting, this was scripted, this was planned, this is a typical muppets show
Jesus Christ these captions suck. It's an awesome performance, and the captions do nothing but spread false information. Can we stop upvoting this nonsense?
Why is this being presented as if this wasn't something they'd rehearsed extensively beforehand? This isn't her dealing with Animal's chaotic input, this is her excellently participating in and executing the prepared and planned bit.
I'm annoyed by the "scolding in fluent Spanish" bit. Like - Rita Moreno is Puerto Rican and was raised bilingual, her Spanish fluency isn't a great shock here.
I love it more when people are shocked what a cartoon is seemingly doing that's not appropriate for kids. Yeah, mom, that means it's not for kids, not: "is this for kids!?".
My parents and in-laws still think that anytime a show is a cartoon, that it's made for kids. I have to tell them, no, there are definitely some not-kid-friendly cartoons out there.
I cried my eyes out watching that movie, like straight up sobbing. There hasn't been another a piece of media that has crushed my soul quite like the Graveyard of the Fireflies.
The titles did not do the vid any flavours. Idiotic explanations to absolutely obvious things going on. They probably added them so Americans could follow it
Everyone expected that, the unexpected part is the extent to which she rolls with it. Most of the more sensible celebrities that were on the Muppet Show try to integrate the Muppets to some degree (a few try to work around them instead, which doesn't work out well), very few of them treat them quite this naturally.
Absolutely: how well guest stars worked on that show depended almost entirely on how well they clicked with the muppets. Some great examples: Rita Moreno (as above--check out her entire episode), Lynda Carter, Julie Andrews, Carol Burnett. I think the key thing is that the guest star has to take the muppets seriously as characters, as people, but within the context of a comedy TV show with a sense of humor that wasn't particularly sophisticated (but still funny!) 1/
As has been said before, Michael Caine's Ebenezer Scrooge worked as well as it did for more or less the same reason, except that the comedy wasn't as central to the film. There are funny bits, of course, and it's still the Muppets, but the core story from Dickens is a serious drama. 2/2

Yeah not staged at all

This descriptive text is inane, incorrect, and inciting an idiotic narrative. IT is giving ME a fever

I'm impressed they kept Animal so restrained!

i so miss the muppet show!!
WoodORama
Rita Moreno is one of the smartest, hottest, funniest, most talented women to walk the earth. And you better not have jinxed her. She's 94.
HamSlamwich
No one who's 94 dies from being jinxed man.
WoodORama
I know. It's more just not wanting to lose her, ever. If I make it to 94 I don't want anyone to shed a tear.

Sesame Street has its problems too...

This is a great bit but it is clearly scripted. Implying that it was completely improvised is dishonest and disrespectful

Great bit but also wanna shout out for that song - so sensual, so sexy.

Yes that is a masterpice.

Nobody expected the Muppets to hijack it… ON the Muppet show? Really?

lol, it's very much a man's world. always will be, sadly.
RawSuger
i mean...they prbably kinda expected it?
MithridateEupator
I thought the muppets were just going to listen and not be included in this one?
seehemewe
*gasp!* on a scripted TV show? heavens no.
igglebotato
Right? There would have been rehearsals. (Though I guess it's possible that Oz threw in some ad-libbing.)
HamSlamwich
I mean its a fucking puppet on drums, did they not expect that would come up?
ELKronos
"Hey, why is there a puppet over there?"
"What? Where?"
"Over there. With the drums."
"Huh... No idea..."

i like how the captions explain what’s going on in case there’s a trump voter watching

The captions ruined the entire thing for me, including spoiling several jokes.

That's his secret, imgur.
Animal was never on his meds to begin with.
MrMichaelCalifornia
Should we even tell the person who wrote the text for the video that this was all rehearsed.
HouseOfEvil
LOL @ the commentary going on as if this was all improvised and not scripted for the show.

I am so happy for the unique flavor of whimsy that the Muppets have added to the world over the years.

Always kinda startles me when I hear someone call The Muppet Show a kids' show.
thedudeman519
It was (relatively) family friendly. With most jokes being entendre or innuendo, but AFAIK it was never marketed or presented as a kids show .
thedudeman519
So , yea, people describing it as one are misguided at the least
fillerbunny9
It was a suitable for all ages variety show. It occupied an evening time slot and everything.

Just show them a short snippet of any Happy Tree Friends. That’ll clear things up for them in a jiffy.

And then there was Tim Curry, who instead of treating the muppets like humans, treated himself like a muppet
MisterFluffi
He did say he'd had a fling with miss piggy, so maybe there was a little Muppet in him.
