From Iraq's perspective, they had been defending the Arab countries from Iran for the past 12 years following the Iranian Revolution in 1979. During the Iran-Iraq war, the United States had been illegally selling weapons to Iran, and those sales were overseen by then Vice President George HW Bush.
Kuwait had given Iraq loans to help it defend itself and Kuwait was trying to cash in those loans despite Iraq using them to defend Kuwait from Iran. Services rendered, so to speak.

Kuwait asked for help, yes, but Kuwait asking the US for help does not mean that the US's war with Iraq was started by Iraq. Iraq started the Iraq-Kuwait war, not the US-Iraq war. The latter was started by George HW Bush.

The US's involvement cannot be started by Iraq, whether directly or indirectly. The US is not a vassal state to Iraq and Iraq has no power over the US.
Do not blame the Iraq for the US's reactions to Iraq. There are a myriad of ways the US could react, and it reacted the way it did because George HW Bush wanted to do a war about it.

From what I've heard, he wanted to do it because Saddam tried to have his dad assassinated. Personally, I feel like killing hundreds of thousands of people and burning trillions of dollars of other peoples' money that could have gone toward something that actually helps people over a failed assassination attempt is disgraceful (not to mention absurdly disproportionate). This is especially true when he could probably have just had a PGM dropped through Saddam's window when he went to bed.
