I'd argue the US never beat the confederacy, the states never went through the same process as denazification in Germany, and because Lincoln had a democrat as vice president when he got killed, there were never real repercussions for the civil war, which is why the states can brazenly build statues of Confederate villains and keep the flag everywhere.

There is no arguing your point, the North simply didnt have the capacity to rebuild the South properly, nor were there steps taken to ensure those in power were punished, oh, and a HUGE swath of Confederate big wigs fled to Brazil.

To be fair, it can be argued that Germany didn't go through denazification either when you see things like the "Myth of the clean Wehrmacht" persist to this day and the AfD continue to rise in the polls.

Absolutely. The Union defeated the Confederacy militarily, but the Reconstruction Era was a failure. Post Civil War the US should have drafted a new Constitution, instead of re living these errors for another. 150+ years.

As long as countries (the world?) remain capitalist, fascism will always be an undercurrent in society. We've never totally dismantled the Confederacy or the Reich because fascism is the ultimate end-state of capitalism. Nobody who thinks they can have all the money wants to dismantle the structures which aid that end.

I'd say it's a resounding 100% of why we're here. If the confederacy was razed to the ground and had all of their leaders and upper members executed, and their power and community structures destroyed, we may have had a chance of eradicating their racist, christofascist culture. And now it will take so much more blood and destruction to do.

It is definitely not 100% of the reason. It took until now for all this to happen, at the same time as far-right politics are becoming more popular in other parts of the world. That international phenomenon shares common between the individual instances in each country, so it's clearly not a uniquely American thing.
I agree it is a factor in the current state of the country, but to say it's the sole factor is a bit silly.

Evil people always exist. I agree that we should have done more to achieve justice, but you can't eradicate hate. The reason we're here now is because we (effectively) transferred power from the people to the dollar, and then gave all the dollars to the worst people imaginable — people who are happy to trade in human suffering for personal gain and who have no problem using their (vast) resources to exploit the masses.

You can sure try to eradicate hate. Hate should be at best clinging on to fraying edges of existence under the oppression of a tireless, pervasive foe. Maybe it's impossible to eradicate but that does not alter or discharge our duty to attempt to do so. But yes, when you let rich narcissistic sociopaths build and run an economic and political system completely unopposed this is what happens. They successfully convinced us not to use violence to solve a problem only violence solves/prevents.

The only good nazi is a dead nazi, all christianity is inherently bad and incompatible with a free, equitable civil society and with the preservation of life on this planet, and capitalism is the root of all of the current evils christianity isn't.
