This is why I have 3 Prii, 2 motos, and a supercharger car. :) I’m doing my part.
ProudAussie
Ahh, the tax break.

"To be truly challenging, a voyage, like a life, must rest on a firm foundation of financial unrest. Otherwise, you are doomed to a routine traverse, the kind known to yachtsmen who play with their boats at sea... "cruising" it is called. Voyaging belongs to seamen, and to the wanderers of the world who cannot, or will not, fit in. If you are contemplating a voyage and you have the means, abandon the venture until your fortunes change. Only then will you know what the sea is all about." -Hayden

His yacht is also followed every by a blue-water tug that carries his toys and helo.
PerthAussieMike
For that kind of money, he could have had financed a few 'Mercy Hospital' ships named after him. What a fine humanitarian legacy THAT would have been.
Pluppokopter
So they can steal my medical data? Ugh..
Felcomic
That was the first thing I thought of when I saw the photo.
VinchVolt
the uppermost classes only engage in philanthropy for tax breaks, they have no genuine convictions to help the downtrodden
BerryButcher
and it takes just one 4000$ armed drone to sink that shit to the bottom of whenever the fuck it is at the time

Icebergs are not the coldest bergs.

We will either cure the plague or it will kill us all. There is no in between now.
areyouelonmusk
Hey guys if we just keep up the recycling we can offset the carbon footprint! /s

Shouldn't even be legal to build shit like this

Where is it docked currently

you are jealou... wait, what do you want with that baseballbat? no, stop ugghhn argghh!

I'm almost convinced they know the world has 10 years left and the rich are pushing the wealth gap higher is so we stay occupied and they go and play before it's all over
PostHartmann
I'm sorry but this is why I don't feel guilty anymore about my carbon footprint. Ooooh, you put a can in the regular trash. Who gives a fuck.
LostCaterpillar
You're that kid that read about nazis and thought "heh, it's totally fine if I call my neighbors " aren't you?
PostHartmann
No, I hate Trump and the rich that abuse us and try to make the poor seem like the fault of all the problems in the world. I just don't feel guilty about my little contribution to waste when they generate more in a day than I do in 10 years. I recycle, I turn off all the lights in the house except in the room I'm in and sometimes not even that. I respect those that deserve respect and don't find fault until they show the fault. I am not going to let politicians or corporations deflect.

"As the defendant rightly points out, other people out there steal billions and kill by the dozen. Case dismissed."
universeHacker
I'm not going to stop doing the right thing just because other people don't. I'm a parent, and anything other than doing absolutely everything I can to leave my kid a better future isn't an option. If people like Zuck don't care, it means those of us who do care need to push that much harder to both set an example, and catalyze real cultural and political change, period.

Please Sedna, we offer up another, send us another reminder of your power!!
RooGryphon
just give me some drones... i want to see this thing transform into a submarine
thedarklord187
It looks flammable
gronzilla
That just increases pollution. Instead feed it to the orcas, see if they can use the tech /s

Don't forget that it travels with another large ship as a supply ship.
StrangePaegan
Isn't there also a portable helo pad as well?
Resistance1000
That's what the second ships are for. There was "no room" for a helipad on the main ship and it spoiled the appearance, so they land on the support ship and then take a third boat from the second one to the first. This is what is known in the military as a target-rich environment.
Kazpur81S
Whaaaaat!?
AgainstMethod
He said "Don't forget that it travels with another large ship as a supply ship."
Kazpur81S
Hahahah, this fucker’s jokes….🙄
DCon101
Bezos' 550 foot sailing ship's support ship is 247 fret long
YesButMaybe
the 220-foot support ship is named the "Wingman" has 13 cabins for 20 crew members and 3 cabins for 6 guests. It has a helipad, a gym, a hospital, a dive center, and a decompression chamber
in Nov 2024, he had it travel a wasteful 4,200 miles to bring his ocean toys to him and help scout for surfing spots.
ronnyhugo
Fuck, there's surfing groups on facebook for scouting surfing spots XD He'd likely get more reliable results from that than two boats boating around willy nilly.
fillerbunny9
But then he might have to interact with a plebeian!
fluxfusion3
And the firepower of the USS New Jersey.
RooGryphon
then we target the supply ship first
agonarch
Hey they're scrapping USS Enterprise, we should be able to outlast them and hit them whenever they're vulnerable if we pinch that.
Quixus
Which one?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_New_Jersey
TrippyTurtle69
None of them. That sub most certainly has nuclear armaments. Either missiles or torpedoes, possibly both.

The one from Star Trek
HashMaster9k
AgamemnonsMemes
If i were him i'd make it nuclear powered just go all in

So you're saying you're even more of a dead-inside asshole than he is??

Hi there, Orcas?
Yeah that's the one right there.
tavinjer
Just gonna drop this here: https://theinterstice.substack.com/p/preview-teenage-orca-rampage

Man, that is *not* the kind of boat that orcas were attacking.
matshelge
Be the orca you want to see in the world.

I think we are gonna need bigger Orca for this one. Or at least armored or armed.

Iberian orcas attack small sailing ones - not mega yachts. And they're nearly extinct btw.
freshthrowaway1138
The orca thing is actually a great metaphor to describe how humans actually use political violence. The orca/humans aren't going after the key bad actors. They go after the easiest actors who are just slightly different. Sinking a small sailboat, operated by a working class but wealthy person, isn't fixing anything. It isn't changing the behaviors of the wealthy and powerful who rule society. It's just causing greater internal class chaos.
Dybidude5
Enemies of humanity.

If I die, I want a Viking funeral. Just chuck me on his boat while he is on it and set it on fire

A superyacht sinks when the volume of water entering the vessel exceeds its reserve buoyancy, causing it to lose its ability to stay afloat.
Resistance1000
In theory. Someone should verify that to be sure.

Funny thing about fire is that it's always available and incredibly affordable.
newsguycraigevans
Always remember this when some schmuck tries to tell you that billionaires pay more taxes than anyone else.
irespectfullycourtyermam
Your necessary reminder that Gave Newell collects these monstrosities
Aranon1183
Gabe, you mean? Lol
Idsertian
Leave our Lord and Saviour the fuck outta this.
irespectfullycourtyermam
Your emotional support billionaire has gotta give up his dragon’s hoard like the rest of them.

Mans just wants to study marine life on his boats. He's basically responsible for there being some semblance of normalcy in PC gaming, so I say let him.
weidermeijer
So does Poseidon.
Terran81
I’m all in favor of Poseidon making a return and teaching men humility again. His trident isn’t just hurricanes and tsunamis, he causes earthquakes too. Good old days when hubris causes your mansion to slide into the ocean or sea monsters grabbed someone specifically. *stares off into the distance*
ThomasThundersword
except his are fitted out for ocean research and mapping and general scientific exploration.
Resistance1000
How much genuine useful work do they do vs how much of a tax break he gets for claiming they can do it?
Athol
He gets a half point in his favour for one of them being outfitted as an oceanographic survey vessel...but only a half point.
Resistance1000
And that couldn't possibly be a tax write-off much more than it's genuine.
ThePockyJocky
Idk man, it's possible to be a massive fucking nerd and rich at the same time. If you had his money, wouldn't you wanna do something good with it?
ChloePrice
True and correct to criticize but perhaps also an odd priority to point that out when the dude doesn't actively use his wealth to make policies that make everyone miserable, keeps one part of an industry fairly consumer-friendly and partially uses the stupid thing to do some marine research. Do I think anyone should have these? No, nobody should have that wealth to begin with, but y'know. There's A LOT of fires to put out before I care about that one.
JonnyHeat
Solid take
SlammedCarsAreRuinedCars
Well said
E12IK
Oh ffs I wrote a bit rant and then realized you were referring to Newell not Zuck. Still. Billionaires are cancer, but your point is fair.
onlyhalfghost
billionaires are cancer but Newell seems like a guy we could just take the money from. Maybe he'd start making games again. Rest, chop chop.
CeoHuntingSeason
Consumer friendly, yeah, the no reselling consumer friendly, the no way to transfer games to other platform consumer friendly, the impossible to leave in your will consumer friendly, stfu boot liker, there is nothing consumer friendly about steam
ChloePrice
You post misogynistic AI content, you need to not speak ever again.
universeHacker
As a small boat ocean sailor, these kind of boats are boring as shit. You can't see any wildlife from your mile high deck, you're pampered like a helpless baby and not experiencing any real challenge or developing real hard-won maritime skills. Even if I was a billionaire, I'd rather be like Serge Testa who sailed around the world in a homemade 12 foot boat and now gives talks about his adventure, than Zuck who probably screams for his support staff to flush his marine head for him.
Osiricus
12 foot is pretty daring for me but yeah, sailboats are a million times cooler than yachts.
universeHacker
Testa's boat is the most seaworthy boat design I know of, little physical comfort there, but he was never in any real danger. It's heavy welded aluminum plate and literally indestructible. He easily weathered an infamous ocean storm that took down a number of massive freighters. He even fell asleep at sea in a hurricane and was washed ashore in massive surf, and the boat was completely undamaged.
Resistance1000
I wonder how many hours he actually spend on the thing in a year. Of all the things billionaires buy, a mega-yacht has to be the very worst return on investment in terms of actually using them. Even as a willy-waving contest, how do they justify it to themselves?
universeHacker
If these guys could enjoy anything at all in life other than accumulating money for it's own sake, they'd already be doing it, and would never have become billionaires in the first place. They'll never be able to enjoy being on the boat, so after a few tries why use it again? People go to sea without money if that's what they want bad enough.
Shaodyn
It's infuriating to be an environmentalist and do all the things they say you're supposed to do to help fight climate change, only to have the problem only get worse, mostly because of things like this.
marsilies
It's the lie of personal responsibility, that the polluting corporations came up with to skirt their own responsibility. What's needed is systemic change, via laws and regulations, instead of hoping every individual will do the right thing.
Shaodyn
Even if everybody does the right thing, 100 corporations produce over 70% of pollution. Us doing "the right thing" legitimately will not solve the problem.
marsilies
Well, I would argue every individual doing the right thing would also include company execs voluntarily making their corporations greener. Or you could say if every individual consumer picked greener options, that would force corporations to go green, but many people can't AFFORD to pick the more expensive, greener option. We need the government to force corporations to make products and services greener, and then help lower income people with the increased prices.
freshthrowaway1138
The most important tool in the chest of the environmentalist is the Vote. When you spend your time organizing and politicking, you can accomplish so much more than another awareness campaign about lowering your carbon footprint.
Shaodyn
A billionaire fires up their private jet for a trip that could be accomplished in an hour and a half by car, and somehow climate change is MY fault because I don't use paper straws.
nothingunused
Every bit of recycling, thermostat-adjusting, responsible e-waste disposal, water conservation, etc. that I do over the course of my entire life is balanced out by one second of Exxon-Mobil operations.

1)I've been told since kindergarten that it's my responsibility to be environmentally conscious to keep the world nice and these dickbags

2)have been absolutely ass raping our planet in the background since before any of us were born. This is why we don't make it as a species.
DeakVanNyke
yeah, my friend here says that it looks extremely sinkable.
GrimleyGraves
Your friend there looks a bit stuck on the rocks, need a push?
Resistance1000
Don't push those things on the bow.
