That’s an unfortunate use of the thin blue line on their part; although eerily accurate in many departments. Reminds me of the “All Colors Are Beautiful” (ACAB) logo NYPD sported for pride last year or maybe year before. Someone should have caught that.

You missed all the school shootings? The average US student has a 1/60 chance (and rising) of being involved in one. Not to mention schools are hotspots for kidnapping children.. bearing these things in mind, why wouldn't there be a police presence nearby?

Lots of schools have safety officers. I think maybe one stopped one of the 66 we get in a year. The reason why not to is a bit complicated, but basically — there are a lot of schools where children get charged with crimes. Assault for some shoving, etc. It disproportionately targets minority students, and affects their chances of doing well and graduating.

Reason seems to be that the school district serves a major portion of the county that is otherwise unincorporated. Basically rural areas without their own police department. Basically, because the US primarily operates police on the municipal level, without an incorporated town the school district is the closest thing to a local government that can tax to pay for a police department to serve the area. It's Texas, I don't really expect them to do the logical thing and incorporate a town instead.

Yeah, but in this case it looks like is a rural area that still has a good amount of population. Enough that the county sheriff can't keep up with calls. IMO it looks like a situation were there's enough people they should have incorporated into a couple small townships but refused to in order to avoid taxes.
