With all the criticism on Episodes 7, 8, 9, and multitude of lame spin-offs, there was one shiny example of how to do it better: Andor. Tony Gilroy is a great writer and showrunner. Actor Diego Luna is excellent too, of course.

Rogue One and Andor are absolutely the best of Star Wars on film. It's a shame there is so much good material in the books that gets reused horribly out of context or just entirely ignored in the other movies/series.

I hate to be that guy, but Andor is my least favorite spin off. I’ve tried to watch it 3 times and couldn’t get past the 2nd episode. I thought the story had a lot of potential, but I just couldn’t get past how bad of an actor they chose for the role. He always had this look on his face like someone kept farting next to him, and his delivery was like he couldn’t wait to get off the set. Just wasn’t right for me, I guess.

Andor is an excellent show with powerful messaging about revolutions and revolutionaries; a story about being radicalized and the power of incremental action. No single person's acts ever achieves the revolution but everyone contributes to it. The characters and politics are complex and murky but without being maudlin, and its depiction of fascists and how capitalism is subsumed by fascists it supported is top-notch. Great show, would recommend.

It's a fantastic show, made amazing in my mind from one development: A badass, anti-fascist old lady dies, is cremated, and her ashes incorporated into a brick, as per local custom. That brick is then used to bust open stormtrooper heads during her funeral. And we all know it was the perfect way to honour her memory.

All of the modern Star Wars stuff has been watchable and enjoyable. Rogue One is my favorite out of all of it. A story of real heroics: people willing to lay down their lives for the greater good. No Mary Sues, no get out of death free cards. Andor is almost as good, but has some pacing issues. Solo is maybe the worst; it was 99% fan service; "Here's the origin of everything about Han Solo, now there's zero mystery left. Are you happy now?"

This show is excellent. Just excellent. Particular highlights for me was the grim speech that rebel cell leader gave to the guy who wanted “out” where he basically explained that he has sacrificed his soul and his goodness for the sake of the cause, and that even if the galaxy is one day free, he’ll have turned in someone that has no place in it.
And the Imperial Governor gloating about his method for slowly smothering out a cultural practice for an oppressed Indigenous population. No need to

kill them and make a fuss, just pretend to help them but add little barriers in the way until they give up. Such a good show.
And I’ll just add, I find myself longing for a powerful Jedi to just come and solve their problems for them, and I’m glad that it doesn’t happen. With Jedi less is more. At some point they’re going to met an undercover Jedi who saves the day as a one time thing and it will be an amazing moment because if its rarity.

About the Jedi thing: Exactly the same with Q in Star Trek. The character is beloved because it is used in rare occurences, not because the character is seen as the new quirky sidekick with superpowers who becomes annoying and storybreaking really fast!

Loved it! I remember seeing the trailer for the first Star Wars and knowing I’d be at opening night. Saw it at least 5 times over the next few years. I started Andor with trepidation but really enjoyed it.

In some ways I almost feel like it being a star wars show is holding it back. I think it's one of the best shows I've seen in a while but with star wars stuff being so mediocre these days a lot of people assume it's gonna be the same and don't watch it

Andor is a great show. Syril Karn is something I've always wanted to see in Star Wars. Hes not some dark, evil sith lord. Hes not a high ranking member of the Empire. And he would be doing the exact same thing if it were still the Republic. Hes just a corpsec guard who refused to just ignore that two of his colleagues were murdered and who thinks hes more important than he is.

Im not even sure I'd call Karn evil. Like, there are so many stories where he'd be the protagonist and hero. Stories about beat cops who refuse to bow to corruption and try to use every ounce of influence and authority they have to bring a murderer to justice. But in this one, hes the antagonist. I love it.

I'm not sure, people told me "The Mandalorian" was the best series around and I thought it was just as bad as all the other recent star wars stuff, lots of explosions and forced humour but otherwise devoid of any heart and dialogue even George Lucas would be ashamed of (for reference find the "Star Wars: A New Hope" script before Alec Guinness came along and fixed it for him).

I'm on episode 12. I like it so far, although it started kind of "standard", but it kept sucking me in the more I watched. I'm noticing a distinct lack of alien characters tho. Except for those 2 fishermen and some rare extras in the background, there's a definite lack of them... and overall, everything is a bit too human and contemporary for my taste. At the end of the day, however, I'm very much into it. I hope it holds up. Not even sure how many episodes there are, but I like it that way.

That's kinda the point though. The Empire was incredibly xenophobic against any non-human. So trying to pull a heist with a Rodian and a Duros would've been over before it began. All the employment, even if it's a crap job, would be filled by Humans first and foremost, with the aliens left on the streets.

Maaaaybe, but there are next to no aliens in Ferrix, in jail, on Coruscant... pretty much nowhere but occasionally in the background of a Ferrex sreet shot, when the Star Wars universe is usually full of all kinds of aliens.
And well, the Empire also used to consist exclusively of white males at the time of the original trilogy, but got retconned to be a very inclusive and diverse entity.

Interesting issue. Star Wars has always troubled itself with who their audience is. They tried to please everyone.
When Empire strikes Back came into cinemas, the reception was mixed to negative. The move was too dark. Too brutal. Not for kids. They miscalculated how big of a part of their audience children were and families watching with their children. The result is quite visible in the next movie. Return of the Jedi is much more cutesy and funny. The Ewoks even got two stand alone movies >

unpopular opinion that it is a good thing that stories and series have an end, that they don't have to be dragged out until everyone is sick of it, i think the key is to know you have different and partly incompatible audiences. Andor is for the older ones. Rebels was for kids. Solo was for... ehhh... drunk people?
What made the Mandalorian worse for me, as it went on, was that they started to mix the Ewoks Star Wars too much into the Empire Star Wars. Now, from season 2, to get what was going>

on, you had to somehow know shit about Rebels. That is not good. If they intersect, ok. But not everyone needs an nostalgia cameo and they need to understand that they need to keep it watchable for everyone if they want to make it for everyone. Having to know Rebels or Clone Wars to be on the same page as the show is about as reasonable to make Young Jedi Adventures to require having watched Andor. That shitnis not for kids.
