She complains that people didn't want to hear her speak. The article is pretty biased, so I won't link.

Edit to add: The Russians must be awake, post and every comment on this post just got hit with 20-50 downvotes while transphobes got huge boosts to their comments. We see you.

She had her right to freedom of expression. She was there to talk and was given a platform. That's all the right gives you. Other people have the right to protest your stupid fucking viewpoint, your divisive rhetoric, and to disrupt your ability to spread hate. If you are too stupid to understand that, then the university have overestimated your ability to impart information.

7 months ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 2

But she did express herself. She got given a platform and everything. People just expressed themselves back. That's how it works.

7 months ago | Likes 94 Dislikes 4

You don't have "freedom of expression" from non government entities even in the US, so unless hate speech is protected under that university charter, bitch needs to STFU

7 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Read the article. Definitely biased given that it doesn't actually lay out any of her views.

What could she possibly sue for? It's not like the venue organized the protest. The only thing criminal was a fire alarm being pulled and that's a criminal concern rather than a civil one, and it isn't the fault of the venue either. She says the venue was vulnerable to protest and that barring undergrads from attending the event contributed to the problem. How, exactly? Seems like a cash grab lawsuit.

7 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Becaus it is. That's the grift of these hate-filled bigots today.

7 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

She has short hair. In certain states in the US, she'd be questioned if she tried to go into a female toilet.

7 months ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 11

I like how imgur hates Trump and Epstein and then downvotes people for explaining how this lady is a cunt.

7 months ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 17

Yep. Lots of transphobes still lingering on here.

7 months ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 16

See, the trouble with this. Ordinary people protesting is not impinging on your freedom to speak. You spoke and they told you to fuck off. Never being allowed to speak in the first place, by a government or institution, is when your rights are being impinged. You have the right to voice your opinion, and others have the right to tell you to go fuck yourself.

7 months ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 2

Also, "the government" has no right to stop your speech. Other citizens have no right to stop speech you make on your own property. HOWEVER: The owner of the property you are making use of to promote your speech has a right to moderate your speech. If you send something to a web server you don't own then that server admin has a legal right to delete it. If you make a speech at a school the school can set whatever rules it wants (within certain guidelines by accreditation and gov grants) 1/?

7 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

That's only legal rights. The moral rights when it comes to public perception is what you're really trying to win. Being a shithead who gets banned is legally and morally right, being a cool person who gets banned is legally acceptable but has moral repercussions that can harm the speaker and the forum involved. Streisand effect and all. 2/2

It's really funny seeing how afraid people are of hearing trans people and just the average person standing up for themselves and trans people as a whole.

They're justified in feeling afraid that society is moving away from needing gender roles to define ourselves and worth in the world.

They are justified in feeling afraid that their ilk are dying out and being erased.

Love and respect for the actually decent people of this world will win. Bigots will all die out sooner rather than later.

Not mentioning that she was protested for being the veneer of credibility on a hate group is bias by omission and a massive failing of journalistic integrity.

What did you find biased about the article? https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/dec/22/gender-lecture-protests-bristol-university-alice-sullivan

7 months ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 42

I'm always worried when women feel physically threatened by men.

7 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 26

The article doesn't mention at all why people were protesting her, which is the only possible way to cast a terf shitbag in a possitive light.
TERFs are professional hecklers, if they don't like being heckled they should leave transfolk alone.

7 months ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 3

She’s part of a hate movement using a university’s platform to peddle bigoted pseudoscience as legitimate research. Portraying her as simply an innocent visiting academic is itself biased. False neutrality in the face of oppression is complicity.

7 months ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 12

it was printed by The Guardian

7 months ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 19

The salient bit, that she's a TERF, is buried. "Her other work includes a review commissioned by the Conservative government and published in March 2025 of barriers to research on sex and gender in which she recommended that data on biological sex and gender identity should be recorded as distinct categories." The rest of the article is her point of view, that she felt she wasn't able to make her hateful TERF points because hecklers and protesters shouted her down. As they should

7 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I don't think it was overtly biased, but it did only report from the speaker and administration's side, and didn't flesh out the perspective of the protesters in my opinion. The Guardian is usually a bit better than this about holding the middle ground.

7 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

...everything? She's a terf, a self proclaimed 'gender critical academic', who was there to give a hate-filled speech. The article treats her like just a random person whose free speech was impinged upon for no reason.
Imagine if other things were reported this way. An arsonist would be reported as "Heat enthusiast considers legal action over violent group sprays warmth instalation with unified liquid".

It's not that biased, it doesn't even say which side of the argument she's on.

7 months ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 19

And it clearly says what side she's on when it contains quoted statements in her own words.

7 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 16

Bias by omission, not including the greivance of the protesters casts them as a mob. Wikipedia is brief but drops the hint:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alice_Sullivan

That’s the bias

7 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

"it's not that biased"

Any amount of bias is bias.

It isn't a gradient scale.

Writing an article that someone was there to speak about a topic nobody wanted to hear but not mentioning specifically why they didn't wanna hear it isn't misinformation, but it was an actively chosen omission.

Best way to fight bad speech is with free speech

7 months ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 17

Free speach does not include violence and threats.

7 months ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 25

Exactly. Free speech can be jn favor of violence (eg there was famous ACLU case in US about Nazis marching in Skokie) but violence and threats themselves should be illegal. Let this woman blather on at whatever place will have her but the moment she puts a finger (or threatens to put a finger) on a trans person the British authorities should put her in jail .

7 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

I'm glad you agree that TERFs should not be platformed. However, considering that the establishment still very much insists on doing so, whilst marginalising and disadvantaging dissenting voices, there is no fair debate to be had here.

7 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 7

Or, to put it in clearer terms, when one side is consistently heard and the other side is consistently repressed, then insisting that the repressed ones "just use their free speech" to counter the massive propaganda machine propping up their opposition is just disingenuous. One side is already not allowed to be heard, but they have to allow the other side to be heard "in the name of free speech"? That's clearly a biased stance.

7 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 5

Maybe not, but they’re still justified against a violent hate movement perpetrating a genocide.

7 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 5

Pushing a MINORITY in to a dangerous corner that prosecutes them, forces them to hide their identifies, exposes them to danger.

And then when they lash out or push back you cry "WAHH THEY'RE SO VIOLENT, SO MUCH FOR THE TOLERANT LEFT"

@OP Seriously, the Russians?
Why on earth would they sacrifice resources to change number of fake points on a topic only a few people cares about, on a platform which is obviously and echo chamber?
Do you really totally rule it out that actual users of Imgur expressed their opinions about the cited, unbiased reporting of The Guardian and/or your approach to it?

I blame the Russians for a lot of things, but not for up/downvotes on Imgur, because the whole function is a joke to begin with.

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 25

Man, considering every single comment in your history is negative, maybe you have a point. I doubt there are as many miserable people as you on here taking the time to downvote all of these posts, every day, minutes after they are posted.

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Russian bots attempting to influence Western political opinions across various social media sites is a well-documented problem. So while we may or may not be able to say for sure that that's happening on this specific post, if a post on an "echo chamber" site suddenly gets a LOT of comments and votes opposite of the prevailing opinion on that site, it's pretty reasonable to be suspicious.

7 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

It's a day before xmas, lots of people at home, not at work, not doing anything, bored and using Imgur in higher frequency than usually. They also have more time to engage and vote and comment.

Imgur is so uninportant, it would be idioticly vain for the users here to think that we, the posts and the votes have any significance whatsoever, when it comes to geopolitics.

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 11

Sure, we're each just one ant. My opinion by itself isn't really a whole lot of anything. But add up lots of folks' opinions across a global network, give them the means and motivation to DO something, and suddenly you've got a whole lot of something. That whole lot of something is greater than the sum of its parts, but also wouldn't exist without each individual. So yeah, we DO matter, and anyone who tries this hard to convince us otherwise is likely lying to keep us from realizing it.

Also Terfs aren't people. Get over it.

7 months ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 10

Actually, shouting over someone with a megaphone is infact, free speech.

7 months ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 25

It may be different in the UK, but in the US pulling fire alarms isn't covered under free speech. The act, in and of itself in absence of an actual threat from fire is illegal.

7 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 13

Did i say that pulling fire alarms is free speech?

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

She's a TERF, she's anti-trans. The swarm of down voters are anti-trans bots.

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

According to the BBC article she was invited by the University. Which means she was possibly paid and had a contract to give a talk which it appears she was not able to complete. Possibly she has to sue them so they don't sue her for failing to fulfil her contract and the content of her talk has nothing to do with the legal process going on. Her 'right' to speech is based on OfS guidelines and other assorted laws (not the American First Amendment). https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cwyx3y84ln9o

7 months ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 13

yeah, we've been trying to change the acronym to Feminism Appropriating Radical Transphobes for a while, but they whine about being FARTs more than TERFs even.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It does technically contain the word "feminist", but more accurately, it contains the phrase "radical feminist/ism". "Radical Feminism" is its own movement that is basically "female supremacy"...not a fight for gender equality. It got its start in the mysticism half of an early divergence point...the "feminine mystique" thing. Nowadays, you'll find some of them arguing that y chromosomes are "incomplete", and therefore anyone without 2 X chromosomes is not a full person. Yes...really.
