All jokes aside...this is actually part of the original meaning of "The thin blue line". It often refers to the black space above representing the public and order, while the black space below representing crime and anarchy. Meanwhile, the thin blue line is the line that officers walk between law and order and crime and anarchy; both for the public AND themselves.
So, to me, this would be local or state police walking the thin blue line.
So...at the federal level, 18 U.S.C. § 594 makes it a crime to intimidate, threaten, or coerce someone for the purpose of interfering with their right to vote. BUT, states also have laws against intimidation. For example, RCW 29A.84.630 makes it illegal to intimidate a person into not voting in Washington State. So, yes, local and state police CAN arrest federal officers if they believe they are intimidating voters, and prosecute them under state law.
You're answering the wrong question. The critical question isn't 'can or can't', the 'can' is pretty obvious. The real critical question is 'will or won't', and prion behaviour definitely suggests a 'won't'
Yeah? Who's going to arrest them? You're going to need some police officers in your jurisdiction who are willing to actually show up and make those arrests instead of just standing idly by and doing nothing. I'd love to be wrong about this, but I bet the cops are more aligned with ICE than this DA. Please prove me wrong.
I suspect they will only be deployed to places that won't say this kind of thing. IE places where they hold a political majority that exists despite voter opposition and they would like to keep it that way.
The thing is, this will work in states with Democrats in control, MAYBE ones with split governments too, but the ones with Republican politicians in control, they'll go along with ICE at the polls because it's what Trump wants. Even a single state allowing it will have a chilling effect across the country as people don't want to deal with the potential of harassment.
Yeah, red states have a long history of actively suppressing the minority vote (e.g., via gerrymandering and race-based voter roll purges). They'll be happy to allow another layer of voter suppression.
I'm annoyed by the format- the amount of text colors, the all caps, the fact that it's not just a regular article with a headline, the image being so small...
For decades now I've watched Democratic voters get excited when Democrats SAY something, then forget all about it when it comes time for those same politicians to DO THE THING they talked about.
"We will codify Roe vs. Wade." Every election statement, zero election delivery.
"We will enshrine trans protections into federal law." Promised, never delivered.
"We will prosecute the fraudsters."
"We will arrest ICE when they break state laws." We've all watched them NOT DO THIS.
This is some Facebook bullshit. There is no sauce in this, no related article, it's just some made up bullshit by some random person. And it's on the front page cuz it rage baits everyone here. This is no better than the MAGAt bullshit all over Facebook.
Any threat without the firepower, willingness and support to see it through is an empty threat. If the one threatening fears that the consequences might outweigh the benefits, they will not push it through. This is a rule for the playground, as it is for the world stage.
the cops side with ICE even when they harassed non white male cops. the cops will always side with ICE. they are not here to prptect us, to help us or serve the public. they are their to generate money and serve those with money,
Doesn't matter. Arrest them all and let them out the next day after dropping the charges if you have to. The key is to get them off the street on election day.
Worse than that, people afraid of being kidnapped by ICE are already less likely to show up to the polls because of the possibility that they will just roll up and grab them... many people will simply not try to vote because of the fear that their government will terrorize them.
Sometimes you have to be arrested for what's right. The civil rights movement, even the civil war(north side, not the treasonous American murdering south) , and the American revolution. If you are not willing to literally fight against evil, evil wins end of story. We are not at the point of violence. People need to go to the polls if ice approaches you , start a conversation about trump that doesn't say you are voting for him but is something positive enough for ice to Walk away.
Look, I hear you and I respect the tradition of civil disobedience, of challenging laws in the courts, but the Trump regime is a fascist regime and that means they do not care about laws.
What you're asking people to do is to allow themselves to be abducted, possibly disappeared. Definitely abused, possibly murdered. That's not a reasonable ask in any circumstance.
Do also consider that a criminal record significantly impairs an individual's social mobility in the USA and... your plan is dumb.
NKato
That's only words. If they don't send the state police riot squads to arrest ICE, they're just paying lip service. That's all
Banjosquirrel
Make sure you don't just talk about it, Do It!
uzlonewolf
Wake me when they actually do it.

What side of the blue line is this

Who's gonna arrest them?
CPTBRUMBL3Z
If ICE shows up, prove to us FOR ONCE that ACAB deserves an asterisk.
euphxenos

KuroNeko00
They didn't do anything when ICE was literally shooting citizens in the streets, they're not going to do anything this time either.
Uginscion
I know a more permanent solution so they're no longer a problem.
somebackup
Why wait? They're already committing crimes
FelonyRaptor
The thing is those prosecutors can't go there and arrest them by themselves, and the cops won't do it to themselves.
erinaceus
bullshit.

But why not him?!

Uh huh

Bud I'm from Minnesota. Even blue states will lack the courage to lock up ICE agents.
FiftyShadesOfTiramisu

ItsACrazyWorld
Whose going to enforce it? The cops who are on ICEs side? The FBI? Fuck off with this bullshit.
zylokun
No the fuck you won't you boot licking pieces of shit

No they won't. They won't do shit. They never do.

Yeah, I'll believe it when it happens... As much as I want to see a bunch of iceholes get pepper sprayed and tazed
Acquiredtaste
A bunch? Every single one of them!
4Astaroth
Everyone of those people who served ICE under Trump need to be put on trial for all the things that happened in their concentration camps.

Lol with whom? The cops that support Trump? Be real, dude. As others stated, I will believe it when I see it actually happen.

Bullshit
derekjohn
Who will do the arresting and locking up ? Local law enforcement ? I don't think so.
Peden1
Just leave voters alone... Winning by intimidation won't change their minds.
unluckyandbored
They don't care. All they care about is the win.
SavageDrums
They don't want to change any minds, they want to rule over everyone like tyrant kings. The will of the people doesn't matter at all to them.
Peden1
How you rule over an unwilling populous mystifies me
SavageDrums
They're idiots who think they're brilliant.
KinetoPlay
But they win. That's all they care about. Lie, cheat, steal, winning is the only thing that matters to them.
ProjectDA
like people using aimbots and other cheats online, a win is a win no matter how you win.
KinetoPlay
Basically the exact same mindset with lower consequences. Good followup.
Peden1
That's unfortunate

This remains to be seen.

I’ll believe it when they do it

Cops are the weak link in all this. Without someone to actually enforce the laws, and arrest the perpetrators, prosecutors are powerless.
AlmightyElephant
I'd also not give the warning. The warning is the law and the constitution. Let them rock up and just arrest them.
georgejimmydoodle
They'll need police to do it. Pigs are pigs and ACAB.
CoalhouseWalker
And it only matters if they remove them from the polls immediately, not just charge them at some later date

Can't pardon state crimes. They can find charges that will stick.

*Trump can't pardon State crimes.

Can't trust cops to do it.
