Happy for the message the cancellations send, but we can't really afford to lose any outlets attempting "real" journalism. WaPo is Bezo's toy. Its financial ruin won't hurt him at all, but will hurt the public... and, will hurt a bunch of the (good) journalists who will lose their jobs. What is left? NPR/PBS? NYT with its clickbaity conservative OpEds? The Guardian?

He's not a government official, but the move not to endorse is likely because they expect him to be again soon and they don't want his administration retaliating against them. Amazon and Blue Origin either have and/or could potentially get, a huge amount of money in government contracts that a Trump administration could easily cancel or at least make extremely burdensome for them.

You see, the job of a journalist is not only to report the events, but also to explain what they mean to the reader who isn't reading politics on the net 8-12 hours a day. A well reasoned endorsement is just that.
Should they go "Kamala or Perish!! WARGHARBLARTGHL"? No.
Should they go "Here's the track record and considerations we think make Harris a good choice for America?" Sure.

I think they're complaining nobody holds MacKenzie Scott culpable for Amazon and it's bad actions. I will say, even if she shares some of the blame for helping it succeed up to a point, she did at least change course into Philanthropy instead. Unlike Bezos, she's not at all responsible for muzzling WaPo's presidential endorsement, since that happened after she left.

Amazon was fantastic when it first started as a book seller, and then as extra stuff. During those early years you could get FANTASTIC deals, and everything was quality, and anything that wasn't, you could see from the reviews. NOW...it's fucking horrible, on SO many levels. And yet, we NEED it.

You could even say it’s devastating, last I checked, most newspapers are running pretty close to redline. Losing 8% of your subscribers is probably cutting straight from ‘we’re making running costs and a tiny profit’ right into ‘well we’re spending more than we’re earning.’

It's not like the WaPo is ubiquitous with every day culture either. You won't see a vast majority of those people resubscribing, unlike, say, Netflix can when the next season of Stranger Things drops, or HBO when House of the Dragon season 3 drops
