Totally. That reaction seems more “born in a woodpile”. My MIL has a cat that was literally born in a woodpile. She ain’t overly friendly. And as a kitten she was exactly like that.
Probably but she could have easily tried the violent way, as cats frequently do, instead she went for low blinks and showing the kitten her back and all that psychological work to get it to calm down.
If I remember the backstory, this is a cat that the owner regularly introduces to cats that normally refuse to socialize, because they're so good at drawing out chill from cats that are considered impossible to adopt.
For a time, I followed the owner and their rescue program. They posted regularly about the cats they're making progress with, including this cat -- if it's the same one I recognize -- making progress gentling other cats.
They could be lying about it being their video, and the owner of the cat could also be lying about what was happening in their videos, but we're getting into stretch territory.
God the sheer terror that kitten lives under. Abuse is not doing it justice. Whoever did thisnto a kitten needs to be locked in a box and thrown into the sea. Nobody needs assholes like that around.
Well done momma. You rock. Give the kitten love and a good life!
This works with people too, don't let social.stigma shame hugs, offer hugs to anyone who looks like they need one. OFFER a hug. Don't go grabbing people at random. Also ask for a hug when you want one, I 38m have no problem hugging strangers in need. Had 2 ppl say I stopped their suicide and never got their names.
To the ‘online scientists’ who love to interrupt internet posts about pets and say cats do not experience complex emotions like humans: this one short clip is already way more complex than how many humans emotionally manage themselves around echother daily.
Counter point: That proof do we have it is real? The vagueness of the sentence is certainly indicative of a AI headline designed to up engagement, which usually means sprinkling in embellishments.
At the end of the day, all we have is the video. There is no reason to believe one thing over the other, and you are unlikely to get both the original source and the person questioning it to address each other's points.
In other words it doesn't matter as long as you don't buy in to either side.

I don't think the cat is trying to befriend the kitten. It just wants to sit there.

Omg. That totally worked. Moms magical powers.

How can people be abusive to such creatures? I can never understand. . . . .
Shoutrr
it's probably completely made up to add emotional impact. Probably just a feral cat being afraid.

Reminds me of the cat known as Poppy, who can tame even the spiciest of kittens in mere moments.
Agrodryian
Feel like this is projection. That cat just wants the cushy sleeping box. Real momma cats would take none of that and just glump the kitty.
FishieStardust
Wow - that was really awesome. Thank you for sharing
DracoSicarius
Idk if the caption in the backstory is true as I've seen this circulating without said caption
BecauseGodisDead
How can someone abuse a kitten??!!
mercyPandaRunner
It's pretty easy, actually. Much easier than abusing a grown cat.
noot519308
Sorry to ruin the magic, but that cat definitely just wants to sleep in its bed even though the kitten won't leave it.
BishlamekGurpgork

That's cool and all, but that's just a fun story that someone told you on the internet, and that's not what is happening in this video.

Why, in Hell's name, would anyone abuse a kitten...
The damned things are specifically made to avoid that.

Abyssinians are chill like that, they're amazingly social and friendly for cats.
RadishIsAMeat
Imgur yet again fooled by a false narrative pasted over an existing video.
HoneNathan
OK, so whats the real narrative?
bhraal
I'm guessing the abusive part is fake. Seems to me that the kitten just feral, but is young enough to been socialized.
HoneNathan
Right... but, not to be mean or anything, thats just a guess. The guy was so confidently claiming this was fake, I'd like to see some actual proof.
bhraal

Thats far from proof.

Counter point: the burden of proof belongs to the person making the claim, not the person asking for proof.
