Follow the money.

Last week wife came home from the grocery store: "They were celebrating being in business for 95 years, so they were selling 3 dozen eggs for 95 cents!"
This week: "Huge recall on eggs because they're icky-sicky."
Hmmm...

and the prices go and so do the profits claimed.

@OP How can I possibly survive? There aren't any diverse women to vote for in my district!

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

finally, a headline that just says the number of individual eggs instead of how many dozen

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Eggs are too expensive anyway. /s

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

and how much in this going to increase the price of eggs?

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Probably not much. The recalled eggs account for about one half of one percent of the number of eggs consumed in the US per year.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Again?
And they want to force their animal products on other countries?

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The bad new is, grocery prices have never been higher

The good news? Most of its poison so not worth buying.

Practicing so he can jack off Miller and Blanche at the same time.

More people getting sick means more people using that expensive healthcare. The healthcare insurance lobby paid good money on Trump to deregulate safety.

2 weeks ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

And the corps producing our food did too! Regulations cost corps money. Take away the regulations, while charging the same prices to consumers, and you get MORE PROFIT!

Yup

So done with this place

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Do the eggs Costco provides come from this? I had gone there today for my monthly run, and bought a case of eggs.

If you wanted to win, you would've stuck with Biden.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Kinda hard when Biden retired. Unfortunately, the only thing ingrained deeper in the US than racism is sexism, so when he nominated a woman of color.....

Don't eat raw eggs and have good hygiene around raw chicken. That's all. (It is possible the way the chicken meat is treated in the US kills salmonella, not an expert).

Salmonella was widespread in Northern Europe in the 80s and 90s. Supposedly less so now, but many of us 80s kids still see raw eggs and chicken as lethal.

For recipes that uses raw eggs, the supermarkets have pasteurized egg whites / yolks.

Here's a hint dude: EGGS SHOULD NOT BE CONTAMINATED WITH DEADLY DISEASES.

The EU manages to not have this problem WITHOUT washing the eggs. Just telling people "Hey, just be sanitary! It'll be ok!" No. It fucking WON'T be ok. People will still get sick, and older people and those with compromised immune systems will fucking DIE. Fuck you.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What? The egg production in Nordics has probably the strictest salmonella regulation in the world. People use regular eggs for recipes that use raw eggs because there is nearly zero chance they have salmonella. In Finland I have never seen pasteurized egg whites/yolks in any shop.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yea, I’m born in the 80’s in Sweden and I’ve never had to worry about eating raw eggs.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Seems it was localized to Denmark.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

*trying very hard to not add this to my mental arsenal on Sweden VS Denmark and to not make bad jokes about how ofc it was in Denmark* bc, well, “oh, typically those unruly Danes lol”

Having said that though, I don’t mess with chicken. No sir! My hands get dry just by thinking about how much I wash them when handling chicken (even though we have that under quite good control here also, without preemptive antibiotics mind you!).

It is probably because our farmers treat livestock like shit.

Not literally of course, because shit is useful to them as fertilizer, so they probably treat shit a little better actually.

Proper hard-boiling kills Salmonella bacteria in eggs, making them safe to eat. I've been using the MyMini Premium 7-Egg Cooker ($13 @ Walmart) and it's been awesome & fast; best way to hard boil. And an 18 pack of GV Extra Large eggs is $2.76 - just an FYI for those tight on $$!

2 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

Okay but what if we don't fuck with boiled eggs

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wonder if cooking them over easy is enough or not. Or over hard?

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah... Fuck Walmart with a rusty pitchfork. They've been price gouging their food (especially the fresh veggies and fruits) for a while now, but touting a few loss leaders to get people through the door.

If you've got a WinCo in your area, go there instead.

2 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I'm elderly; no car; central Iowa; never heard of WinCo. But I always hear from someone about every big business on the North American continent that sucks (likely the one they don't shop at)! If anyone listens to it, there would be no place left to buy anything. None of the grocers nearby deliver; even if they did they're still higher priced for a cart full of food. So I buy where I can afford to. Sorry that bothers you.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

no one's gonna blame you for not being able to afford alternatives, but there are reasons for hating Walmart that have actually had a lot of thought and reasoning put into it. https://www.theatlantic.com/economy/archive/2024/12/walmart-prices-poverty-economy/681122/

No, I understand. Not every store is everywhere and there are vast swaths of the country that get little to no choice where they shop. But there are also a lot of areas that do get a choice, and if people in those areas DO make that choice, it would have a measurable effect.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The more we know "Yes, hard boiling eggs kills Salmonella. Heat destroys the bacteria when the entire egg—both the white and the yolk—becomes firm and reaches a high enough temperature (around 160°F to 165°F). Boiling an egg for about 9 to 12 minutes ensures it is fully cooked and safe."

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

so its.. litearally only a hazard if you use it to make mayo?

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Or eat runny/easy style eggs or scrambled eggs

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

which WOULD beg the question, how many of those eggs are already in things like mayonnaise?

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

:| that is a terrifying question

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A lot of people, like myself, prefer their eggs cooked in ways that are still runny. Sunny side up is my preference.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It will still come out runny at the end. What's the issue?

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

That /is/ the issue. If you cook an egg completely solid, it gets hot enough to kill the salmonella and break down any toxins already present. But because so many people prefer their eggs runny, salmonella remains a significant risk.
