Considering that my dad died at 67 and my mom is nearly totally disabled at 66, I would argue for lowering the retirement age to 60 and increasing taxes on the top earners to fund it.
Which Paul Ryan? Oh the deficit hawk who made his whole political career about lowering the deficit only to support ballooning it when it party was in power? That Paul Ryan?
This is the fundamental problem when those who write the rules are completely out of touch with the real-world consequences of those very rules. They call it ‘fiscal responsibility’ when they ask others to work until they’re 70, but for themselves, it’s a completely different story.
It is this kind of blatant hypocrisy that ultimately strips institutions of all credibility.
Pretty sure congresspeople get subsidized but not free healthcare. Which is still BS, better and cheaper than anything WE get, but let's be mad for the right reasons.
I'm not mad about the fact that they earn a pension and the health care benefits that may come along with it.....many people in America can. It's that they have zero care for those who don't have those options, and the fact they've been working for decades to deny such systems to those who aren't them.
There was one saying that I once read that really stuck with me: "The world is a luxury resort for a very small part of humanity. The rest of us is just staff."

I think we should take every penny that treason monkey Paul Ryan and his ilk have and put it into SS.

Technically not 'retirement age', just 'Social Security Drawing Age'. He still can't draw Social Security.
Ostegonation
Fuckers like this don't deserve a continued existence. Put them on trial, let the fuckers know that we the people won't put up with this anymore.

Paul Ryan the liar. Their "fiscal responsibility" lines have been lies since at least Reagan, same as "state's rights".

must've been 2012 when R-Money was running against Obama's second term

And he gets free healthcare. Well, free in the sense WE pay for it.
redtruck
Nothing's free. some Canadians brag about free healthcare. It's not. Taxpayer driven, and provinces charge yearly premium, based on income.
glovelyday
True. All healthcare costs. Out-of-pocket, insurance, or taxes. The only "crime" in the US is the shamefully high cost.
redtruck
Ya it’s awful that health care is considered a commodity instead of an essential service
GarmBlack

I stand corrected we subsidize "only" 75% of the cost for it.

I will approve of him receiving a large iv bag of bleach to combat covid before he gets covid

the congressional "pension" is necessary for honest not corrupt politicians. members like Justice Democrats don't accept corporate funding, don't have tens of millions in savings then make 10s millions insider trading like greene did. the pensions, medical is necessary for honest politicians. all GOP r corrupt and many DNC Corporate Dems r corrupt. https://www.c-span.org/clip/washington-journal/user-clip-us-house-rep-marjorie-taylor-greene-takes-the-money-and-run/5181875
