My rules for online debates: don't downvote people unless they're disingenuous. Either reply, or upvote someone who has already replied with your opinion.
I’m small time compared to DK, but I upvote everyone whose comments are decent and funny on my posts. I also don’t delete mine so you can peruse my “cringe” moments. I’ll downvote only if you’re shitty.
Sometimes I'll up vote a dump early on, or accidentally double tap and it becomes an up vote, only to find later in the dump some awful or bigoted stuff. They get back to neutral or down depending on severity
I upvote everybody directly applying to my post who's not being mean. Low bar, but that's still not anywhere near everybody. Of course, I usually hide my old posts after they've gone stale, so in the end it doesn't really matter
Same. Ive never had reason to downvote anyone at least. I've made mv a few times with pet pictures (and the one when I was still in shock from having my own place) so not a WHOLE lot of interaction, and usually nice at least.
I'm more miffed when the mods delete a post. But yeah. I had a comment I really liked the other day and wanted to screenshot it, but when I came back, the post was gone. I wish you could still see the comment you left or at least a notice like "post was deleted/hidden/cursed by X." Sometimes I'm not sure if my comment made it.
As a humble comment farmer, I don't post, but I will always toss an upvote to whoever I am replying to provided I do not have a strenuous objection to what they say. Then, I just leave it neutral. And often to direct replies as well.
Same on the former. But I really, really wish people wouldn’t do the latter, though…It breaks comment threads that may still be ongoing and obscures community history.
It depends. If it's a personal story or something or photos...people really need to get better about occasionally deleting their content as a safety thing. You'd be amazed the personal info that accumulates if you don't do periodic purges. Back in the day we would occasionally have cyber security talks where a speaker would show how t deduce personal info from images - location, routine, etc. These days that practice has died out - to peoples' detriment, IMO. You see a lot of doxxing now.
Hey Slouch's insecurities, stop telling them to hide old posts! Leave that for posterity. And while I have your attention, leave them alone; they are trying their best and your bullshit isn't appreciated. Thanks.

You guys get more than one comment on your posts?

The rules are as follows:
On your own posts: Upvote any comment that isnt just wrong or mean.
in general:
Whenever you accidentally upvote a comment or post, you MUST allow the upvote to stand.

People like you guys are really messing up this website. Upvoting indiscriminately is kind of giving up your voice.

(I'm miffed when people delete their posts, too, which is why I hardly ever post anymore)

Me too! With the exception of extreme disinformation or rudeness to someone else; they get the mostly unused red arrow.
