#1 The people watching you are in a cult, you're just in a movie that normalizes authoritarianism, patriarchy, hetero-normativity, caste and conformity. HTH.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

Uh oh, cult members feel attacked!

#5 e-readers don't have glare, don't need dog ears (and what fucking monster dog ears their books anyway?), and (at least all the ones I've owned) don't have pop-up ads. Books are bulkier and heavier and only contain the same book (or maybe two or three if it's an omnibus) forever. Real boomer energy in this comic but even my boomer mother loves her Kindle.

Most Viral? Nice. See my other posts for *many* more single-panel cartoons like these. Enjoy!

#5 Same reason I read the morning paper… better UI… easier search function.

Boomer Anthem: Video Games cause violence, Phone bad, book good, I hate my wife, Pause the Fortnite please, Funny Facebook minion memes

If you're talking about #5, the glare and battery life issues are very real unless you have a dedicated e-ink reader like the Kindle (which on the plus side can carry hundreds of books). Also books are sturdier.

My book doesn't have an otter case...

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

And it's still sturdier than the armored Kindle. You can lob bend it, it with all your strength against a wall, sit on it (without wiggling too much)...

#1 Worse than a cult. They're swearing fealty to a ruler that literally spends their days eating the citizens.

3 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Thus making it the most accurate depiction of monarchy in a Disney movie.

Any given political system given time.

But the emotional state of the king seems to directly control the weather in that movie, so like... maybe there's something to the cult?

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

I thought it was because the circle of life was imbalanced between predator and prey, leading to ecosystem collapse.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's exactly how cults get started! All of the weather thing is just coincidence. Even the talking cloud. Could have been talking to any "Simba"...

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I never saw the movie, and I thought I knew enough about it, but I didn't know that.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Yeah, there's like a years-long drought while Scar is king, and the whole ecosystem turns into a hellscape, and as soon as Simba becomes king, it starts raining again. It's just standard-issue pathetic fallacy, but in context I guess it sure would make the king look like a weather god.

They also imply he's letting the hyenas eat too much, which would cause an ecosystem collapse, but how were the hyenas surviving BEFORE then? It's not like the population had time to skyrocket, and they clearly already had an army of hyenas marching to Scar's music.

#5 DON'T DOGEAR THEM... Use an old trading card ot something as a bookmark. Heck, a square of toilet paper works fine.

I recommend a wet washcloth...always guaranteed to work.

Or a taco.

I use junk mail as bookmarks. #recycling I guess?

At a young age my dad drilled into me...you never dog Ear, you never lay it open face down. NEVER!!

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Back before e-books existed, when I still had to use physical books and collected them (various reasons I don't anymore) I had a rule hardcover books must remain pristine. Paperbacks can be dogeared depending on certain factors. Usually it was how much I liked the book. My Robin Hobb and Phillip Pullman books were never dogeared. My Steven King and Dean Koontz books got dog eared lol.

The sticker on the back of the book. Peeled off while reading, folded sticky sides together, and there you have it.

I use my business card! I never give them out anymore so I’ve got to use them for somethin’

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I often end up using receipts, since they seem to be the best thing of a certain size around. Have used business cards, too.

3 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

And handily, when you buy the book, they GIVE YOU a receipt!

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Hey! I use a tp square all the time!

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Thin, unovtrusive, and readily available. A perfect bookmark.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I’m firmly in the dog-ear camp. It makes a book feel used and loved.

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 9

We’re in the same unpopular boat. If I open a book with folded corners I know it was loved. Never see the point in doing it myself but I don’t mind it. It’s your book, do you.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As books are meant to be.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

I've purchased many old books and those dog ears end up falling out. That's why I hate doing it. I don't want the next person to lose part of this precious book.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If I bought and paid for the book myself then I should be allowed to dog ear it is how I've always felt.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

You are allowed to dog ear your own book... but you will be judged..

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I just remember where I am in the book.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You are clearly from a different breed of human. If you are even human at all. Not implying that that's a bad thing.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Unpopular opinion: I like dog-earring my books

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Cries in librarian.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't dog ear OTHER peoples books! Just my own. It kinda gives me comfort, like they're being well used.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There are dozens of us!

My wife is a reader and she writes. I give her Magic cards that fit her and she uses them as bookmarks sometimes.

Whew! I was partially worried you were going to post something like an alpha Black Lotus that's just battered to hell from repeated use

Nah that's my personal bookmark ;) jk I started playing in 2009
