yes, I spent January with my family in Saskatchewan with freezing fog & freezing rain and it was -30. That is one thing, then add the -40 windchill. -30 is actually not horrible, it is the wind that blows through you BRRRR!!
no way. in the summer, you can go out in the morning & not die; in the winter you cannot; 30F from noon-4pm is much better than a -30 Saskatchewan windchill with freezing fog & freezing rain 24/7
Very hard disagree. You can't go fishing, swimming, biking, hiking, for a picnic, on a motorcycle ride, enjoy a nice thunderstorm, etc when there is two feet of snow on the ground and it is 5° Freedom.
It's not, though. Even at 10C you can die of hypothermia. All it takes is for the temp to be low enough that you're losing heat faster than you can produce it.
You can only put on so many as well. "Put on a sweater" only works if the sweater can slow heat loss to the point that your body can generate heat fast enough to replace it. At some point, you could have multiple sweaters, long underwear, multiple pairs of socks, and still be cold. I've been there.
