People that don't complain about how much more taxes the middle class is paying under Trump's 10-year tax plan obviously don't make enough money to notice. I had a $3200 check from a long week. Out of the $1000 of deductions, $650 was just taxes. If not for my end of year deductions, I would have to pay nearly 25% of my total income to taxes. It was 18% in 2016.

Libertarians were almost always temporary embarrassed Republicans, same with never trumpers

In a world of finite resources fiscal policy is social policy.

Q: Why did Libertarians stop liking Bitcoin?

Liberta Ian's are just dumber conservatives not realizing we're already in that hell they want and it just promotes fraud

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Libertarians are just Republicans who are afraid to admit to themselves and others that they're Republicans, because they like to think they're smarter than they are.

You forgot "we need to remove the age of consent".

#2 yea that's just called "Being a liberal". Don't believe me? Just watch how mad they get and the excuses they pull in response to this link: https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2020-election/coronavirus-crisis-hasn-t-changed-joe-biden-s-mind-medicare-n1172361

Liberals hate poor people so much, they created and defended America's social safety net.

Why do leftists only attack the party who helps working people? It's because they know Republicans believe in political violence, and Democrats don't.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Libertarians are just Republicans who smoke weed and don't hate minorities...that much.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

#3 This is what I say to libertarians. We had your idea of a free market 100 years ago. The middle class didn't exist in any meaningful way. Kids worked industrial jobs. Anything you are could be poison. On the job deaths were constant. Why the actual fuck would you want to go back to that?

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I would say fiscally conservative too, but I want to remove tax breaks from the rich and corporations and budget correctly with the industrial military complex.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What is it when you want to help poor people, but hate weed? Fiscal Liberalism?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Libertarians are almost always very dumb people who think they are very smart.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Don't forget about abolishing age of consent laws

2 years ago | Likes 83 Dislikes 7

Yea, just about anytime there is some effort toward a "libertarian utopia," or a place is called that. It's almost garunteed there are child brides somewhere in there. Pedo's will congregate to any system that benefits them. There is some other quote about anywhere that there is unquestioned access to children, you'll find pedophiles.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

What the fuck?? Bro are libertarians platforming that shit???

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

They are not, just like all parties those within the party cannot in unison decide what is the right age. Many libertarians believe that there should be a cut off of child and adult instead of the current system of 16, 18, 21 many states follow there should be a set age you are legally an adult and are afforded ALL perks of being as such.

My favorite takedown of Libertarianism was on last season's Fargo: https://youtu.be/SMsnKFxjxSw?si=NAVsNvBqB2AIv4Ew

"So you’re one of those Constitutionalists… you want freedom with no responsibility. But there’s only one person who gets that…”
“The president?”
“A baby. You’re fighting… for your right to be a baby.”

Back when Glen Beck was on fox I had a friend who fell for his nonsense *hard.* I spent a good hour trying to convince him that the only reason why a gallon of gas was the volume it is was because of government regulation. He seemed to think gas companies wouldn't screw you over without the government holding a gun to their head...

Fiscally conservative can also mean opposing military and defense contractor spending, opposing business subsidies like PPP handouts, opposing farm subsidies, or just cutting wasteful spending. Social safety nets aren’t waste.

#2 I've met a lot of poor dumb people like this.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

So you've been to red states?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I'm in the military. So yeah.

Also, isn't it wierd to have libertarians in the military? Yet they exsist.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Yeah, you would think those fucker would realize there are ZERO super power countries with a weak central government. lol fucktards.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I used to think I supported libertarianism. But I realized I want extraordinary personal freedom (with responsibility) but heavy corporate regulations. Corporations are not people. They do not have the right to exist unless they benefit society

Kalvaxus, the libertarian dragon:

Sorry you had to get spoiled like that

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

The first person I met who was proudly libertarian explained it like this: You are free to do whatever you want as long as it does not interfere with anyone else's freedom. Immediately that sounded like a stupid-ass philosophy. So you can hunt endangered species and buy nuclear weapons at the grocery store but just don't stop anyone from doing the same? I should also mention the guy was a drug dealer, a meth head, and was completely incapable of learning from his mistakes

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Story time: I encountered him in an online nation simulation game. I was part of an alliance of other nations. He decided to attack our group without the support of any other alliances, which basically branded him as a rogue nation. No one wanted to help him, and six of our nations demolished his nation almost instantly and continually. Finally he tried to negotiate with us for peace. 1/

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

We invited him to our alliance's forum and gave him a simple form to fill out. (What's my nation name, etc, simple stuff like that) His negotiation thread went for like 10 pages before he even followed our instructions and filled out the form. Then we told him we would let him go if he paid for the damage he caused and he just kept insisting he should just get an unconditional truce, despite having no feet to stand on. He was like the black knight from Monty Python. Let's call it a draw!

Fiscally conservative doesn’t mean poor people are neglected. It means less pentagon funding for me

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 13

Everyone who says they're "fiscally conservative" votes for right-wing fiscal policy. So in effect, yes, it means poor people are neglected.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

You should tell fiscal conservatives that.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You must live under a freaking rock my dude.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

And fiscally conservative certainty doesn't mean supply side economics

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 10

Sort of. That’s what it means to every media outlet and every politician in America.

The alternative meaning is “I don’t want the government to waste money,” which is literally everybody, so it’s a meaningless term when used by anyone who doesn’t use it as shorthand for supply side.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

K, lets try this concerning our national debt.
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projects that interest payments will total $892 billion in fiscal year 2024 and rise rapidly throughout the next decade — climbing from $1 trillion in 2025 to $1.7 trillion in 2034. In total, net interest payments will total $12.9 trillion over the next decade

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

K. Anyway, nobody wants the government to waste money.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

That’s what it means to every layperson - “I want the government not to waste money” is such a bland, default take that it’s meaningless. The options are that, or supportive of trickle-down economics.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

It’s the classic copout comment, when you ask them for specifics they are never at hand. People also need to understand that a budget for a country is completely different to their own home or business budget.

Libertarianism is anarchy for rich white people.

2 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 5

The libertarian party was started as a response to school desegregation. The goal was to privatize all the schools and deregulate so those private schools could discriminate.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Agreed, the "for" is really doing a lot of work here that people don't quite grasp. As in unfettered hedonistic anarchy FOR THEM, and consequences for the rest of us. Really the ultimate final form of Boomers.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I just think of it as Republicans who want to smoke weed.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

No that's also Republicans

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

please don't help them coopt anarchist imagery. libertarianism was itself anti-capitalist when it started and was coopted by these people, and they're already trying to coopt anarchism too with ancaps.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

also, I'd like to phone out that neither libertarians nor ancaps realize that capitalism cannot exist without a state to enforce property rights. neither of them take the ideologies they've coopted the imagery of seriously, they just want corporate feudalism.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You’re right. I shouldn’t tarnish anarchism with this. “ancap” is just a funny way of saying “I’m selfish.”

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Don't shoot me, but genuine question. Is the term Libertarian reduced to extreme variations of the ideology? I mean, if I am left leaning in economic/business policy, but socially libertarian is that a thing? Like what do you call it when you don't give a shit what people do with their lives or bodies as long as they contribute to society like everyone else either economically, socially, or some other way.

2 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

IRL, we call you libertarian. On Imgur, certain extremists will bend over backwards to avoid admitting the average libertarian is just like you.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

It is these days which is why everyone has been radicalized. The internet age with targeted content with every company engagement baiting the public.
You can't have a civilised conversation about politics because the moment you express some view you get labelled which comes along with every adjacent baggage.
Trump? You are the the coming of antichrist about to destroy women and the economy. Harris? Every problem in the world is rooted in race and gender if you're not with me you should be shot.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

TL/DR: Yes.

Nobody is in favor of government for its own sake. Today's libertarian movement started in the 1960s. College students asked, "Why do we need government regulation?" because they were too young to remember how bad things were before FDR'S New Deal. Everyone who complains about "Nanny-state government" should read this book:

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You call it “liberal.”

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think the word is so polluted from its original meaning that it has no real meaning anymore. Some people say they are libertarian when they mean they hate taxes. Some people are libertarian but they mean they want to legally own people. Some people are libertarian but it means that they should be allowed to abuse loopholes in the system without punishment. So it seems that libertarian has come to mean an extreme way if dealing with economics.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

libertarianism used to be anticapitalist, actually. now it just refers to a group of conservatives who want corporate feudalism. applying any label coopted by conservatives in a meaningful way is not going to work, because conservatives will take anything they can fit themselves regardless of whether or not it makes sense

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

In much the same way 'socialism/socialist' meant a radical political movement that espoused an improvement in society, hence both national socialists &communists technically falling under the term

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

socialism was a radical political movement that proposed an end to capitalism as a mode of production, and a change to a mode of production under which workers are paid the full value they produce and have ownership of and say in the operation of production. national socialists do not "technically" fall under the term, they coopted it. communists have broader goal that includes socialism as a mode of production, though the authoritarian communist states failed to even come close to realizing it.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

socialism, communism, and anarchism all have similar roots in a broad political scene in the mid 1800s composed of anticapitalist labor rights activists. anarchism has been the hardest for authoritarians to coopt but they've damn well tried.

Liberalism.

Or wokeness.

Or basic decency

2 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 3

See, that's where I'm getting confused. Because looking up the definition of libertarianism, it would fit the mold for liberalism and wokeness. It seems like some on the right adopted the term and didn't fit the mold and now it's lost it's original meaning.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

The definition of libertarian is quite different from what Libertarians believe, at least in America. The best example of American libertarianism is that one video where they boo their own presidential nominee because he believes drivers licenses should be required before operating a vehicle

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I recommend looking up the definition of Liberalism and then checking those boxes. You'll probably find that it covers your views as described here.

Libertarianism is poorly defined because many conflicting sorts of people have tried to claim the definition at various points.

It's modern usage is often more narrow and often ends up as some form of "a person should be free from the state and not need to contribute to it, but also I should still have all the perks of a well functioning state"

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Good faith answer: libertarianism is, in principle, not that far from more communal ideologies. Boiled down, it’s liberty at all cost. However, the term has been co-oped by right wingers and creeps. It now basically boils down to making pot smoking legal, taxes are theft, and the age of consent is too damn high. The main problem with libertarianism, in the sense of the American definition, is that all scenarios will end up with a de facto state, ran by the wealthiest. 1/

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

Which is not much different from feudalism. To see libertarianism in action, look no further than the Chilean experiment which resulted in people using state ran apparatus to try to resolve a non-state issue. Sure, I’ll get some “no true Scotsman” type counter arguments for pointing that place out because, yeah…

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

New Hampshire is heavily libertarian and it’s doing fine. I acknowledge NH has low taxes, legal weed, and a low age of consent. It also has a vigorous middle class and low crime.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Maybe you need to look a bit farther than the dictionary when it comes to political decisions.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Not 100% sure, but I think its confusing cause the original idea of Libertarianism lies in the early 20th century. At that point the government would influence industry and anything and dont care for the cost. Libertarians at the same time came from the common people and cared. It was progressive at that time. Now however, just like boomers where progressive and hippies 50+ years ago. Now they fear and block changes. Kinda same way. Liberals basically took the spot of the libertarians from then.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Though this is mostly from dutch history books. So it likely be different from other countries or cases.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, rather different meaning in the states. See all the other descriptions. It's interesting to hear how political terms shift in different countries!
