I am certain that SarahChurchwell is actually a mermaid…

Sounds like something a mermaid would say

This seems like the sort of pro-mermaid propaganda they would put out to increase victims

In English, maybe, but not in Spanish. Or French either.

I mean, both are gonna drown me if they're even remotely on the ball. That's the important thing.

Im not ignoring the mermaids. Will they drown me and eat me? More than likely. But imma get a kiss from one and be remembered for that. I want the world to know i died doing what I love. Trying to win a 5 dollar bet.

Nah.. this is one of my pet peeves. Mermaids are not Sirens (the mythological creature)
Sirens were *BIRD* women. Mermaids have nothing to do with Sirens, and have only become muddled with them because of bastardisation and people parroting it.

Mermaids harbinge storms and doom, sometimes create it, not sing and drag you in. In many of their stories Mermaids are even the good fae, giving gifts in return for generosity.

Mermaids are not Sirens.

Looking at the etymology of "siren", it comes from "denoting an imaginary type of snake", so neither bird nor fish.
That being said, in many languages, the word for mermaids is more akin to siren. In French, it's "sirène", and as stated above: Sirena in Spanish.

The etymology of the word doesn't really matter, cos the legend comes from bird people.

And the languages having them be the same word, is because idiots got them mixed up.

They're not the same thing.

Makes me suddenly think of a modern fantasy type thing where mythological creatures can get appropriate jobs, and sirens work evacuations and crowd control.

The mermaids are absolutely NOT there for your safety.

Holy shit... That's one of the sexiest Mermaids I've ever seen!

I'd argue that mermaid is good. Could've easily sunk that boat, but went to talk and hang out instead.
