If you have some skill, GIMP is free, runs on everything and does what Photoshop does at it's most basic level and lets you edit photos with pretty awesome results. Inkscape does the same thing but with vectors. If you can paint or want to learn how, you can buy Krita on Steam for 10 bucks to support the developers or just download it free on their website, or if you're on Linux it's probably in your app repository.

Also do the people who make ai flyers/posters not think that if it's an event I've never heard of and the poster was not made by a human I will assume the event is a scam? I can't be the only one, right??
The issue I find now is the excuse stops being only "but I am poor" , to also being "I don't have the time" , which while being valid I don't think is a good enough excuse, and as people start opposing ai more and more you will starting finding you have a lot more time on your hands.

Unsplash also has free images, some of which are attribution optional.
Plenty of people would accept _something_ even if it's awful and from MS Paint, than AI. You'd at least stand out for how terrible it looks compared to all the boring slop. 😄
If you can't afford an artist to make a good poster. MAKE A BAD POSTER. It's ok. It's better than AI. Write on the poster "made badly by a human, no AI needed" the thing will go viral.
Depends on how many you want. If you only want one or two for in house advertising, Staples will likely print it for free. Otherwise their rates are pretty good.
Canva bought Affinity and added an "AI" button to it. I've never clicked it so I don't know what it does or how much it costs.
Affinity still has all the normal, non–AI, photo editing tools it always had and, at least for now, they've even made them free.
I think they bought affinity because there's an endless parade of AI slop apps but to do anything with that slop you need editing tools and so now they can be a one–slop–shop for all your AI image needs.

Never needed the use of any AI feature, so far. I'm not even sure if the version I'm using has any AI features. I haven't paid extra for anything.
