I use it often at work, it can be quite useful to find info and more importantly the source of that info. We have Outlook, sharepoint, teams, confluence, jira... so it can find info from all of that. It's quite annoying to have to turn OFF the web search every single time I use it. Microsoft knows this. It's why they are pushing their worse cloudified apps/platforms on businesses. However, it will never be on my PC. I've been running Linux since 1998.

No, it is. It can provide summaries based on those things it finds, and the most important thing is that it gives you a link to the reference document so you can go read it. It can also find Teams meetings/chats where things were discussed. You can also upload several documents and have it do summaries, etc. That info is only retained for about 20 minutes. If you let it sit longer, it loses the context. You can also only find information that you have access to.

As far as I can tell A.I. is good for helping academic cheaters go from 30 min to combine a few papers themselves instead of doing the work to 10 minutes of prompts and trying to fool anti-A.I. tools instead of doing the work themselves. I haven't heard of another legitimate use for it, since all the "A.I." programs seem to hallucinate randomly.

I would go Linux only, but I've got a few programs that are Windows only, and do not function under WINE, and they don't have alternatives that I would be able to switch to.

If you have enough memory, install a VM with windows on it and have it boot in the background minimized. Then install winapps, and watch it magically provide applications installed in windows rightnin your linux desktop.
It’s not ideal, because windows s still there lurking in the background, but your apps are running natively on windows. There’s just no windows to be seen anywhere.
I use it for several apps as well. And the VM basically sleeps until needed, so not much overhead.

My understanding is, it's a known problem what win11 is actively hostile to any boot loader that isn't its own, so it'll gleefully fuck up your ability to dual boot. Not sure if that was ever remedied by anyone.

I went back to windows only, but I loathe it and will never forgive MS for being so user hostile. One day I’ll pull the plug and go full Linux.

I stopped learning Mac at age 15 in 1999. Ive been Win-exclusive ever since, BUT ms, win11 forcing to update, win 10 end-of-life, plus copilot everywhere made me kill windows on my laptop and switch to Linux Mint. Im a dumb user, think genXer, maybe boomer, and i’m surviving. Not everything, but manageable with a backup desktop with cracked win10 for those programs i cant get or learn on linux yet. Strongly suggest it

I slapped Nobara on. It came preloaded with the drivers I needed to play games. Installed a game and off I went. Most storefronts are supported. Xbox isn't but who cares? Minecraft still works and that was all I needed.

"Portal for Teams" is available in flatpak simple click install. Its an unofficial client but it works. Flatpost or Bazaar are apps to use to search and install apps.

I used Teams via https://teams.microsoft.com for years. I mostly use Jitsi Meet these days, but you can use Teams on the web.
The same can be done with Word, but some features are missing. OnlyOffice and LibreOffice both open Office files pretty consistently.

All windows apps will need one of two things to run in Linux: either a linux native version, or to be run through a translation layer known as Wine. I don't think Office has a linux native version, and I don't know how to make it run in Wine.
The good news, there are other programs that work very similarly to Office - I use LibreOffice, and there are a few others.
Teams? No idea. In any case, take stock of the programs you rely on and enjoy, and do a web search to see if there are linux /

Libreoffice also keeps getting better and better (but indeed I miss proper PowerPoint). One thing that might help in certain cases are the Office web versions that run in a browser. Limited, but work for some things

If you're savvy you can download Virtualbox, a free hypervisor, and try out various linux distros within Virtualbox without any commitment. Performance won't be as good as a real install so don't let that color your opinion much. I recommend starting with Mint or Zorin - both are solid and intended to be comfortable and familiar to windows users/

I switched to Mint about 5 months ago and have been happy with it. There's a learning curve but for the most part it's just, "oh, that's over here instead of over there". Extremely customizable, too.
