The death penalty ISN'T a deterrent, and it's weird you'd equate prison to something as childish as "time out." My issue with the death penalty is that so long as it exists, it will be used to punish innocent people. Are you ok with that?

Second, innocent people being punished is an entirely different problem that needs to be dealt with. You do NOT avoid doing something just because it might be abused, you figure out how to stop the abuse...
