Perhaps its time to dispell something here. Countries do not have "friends". They at most have common interests and its normal to tangle themselves together in trade deals and whatever.
That said, Trump aside since he is running the nation like a moron, if Canadas national interests diverged from USA then they would cut their "friendship" real quick. That is just how the world works.
