Re posting as I got zio-bombed last time

It is dis-honest, inaccurate and wrong to say that the U.K is doing nothing in the face of this genocide...... they're assistimg with logistics and supplying weapons arent they?

Same people think America is about freedom. They just don't know history and drink the Kool-Aid.

Doing nothing? Kneecap, or Massive attack today (for a start) would like to disagree on this.

wait...wait...Britain traditionally stood up for justice? for the oppressed? BRITAIN? The British Empire people? I mean, it's good to value standing up for justice and the oppressed and being proud of the times those things have been done. Let's do more of that. This guy is right, we all need to stand up and stop Israel. It's like doing nothing when we know the parents next door are beating, raping and starving their kids. It's hard to do, but they'll come for us after they're done in gaza.

That first paragraph is fucking hilarious

The UK has "traditionally stood for justice"? Fuck you they have. Look up the First Opium War of China 1839.

tbh until the US can be shifted off bending a knee and kissing the ring for Israel I think other countries will be somewhat afraid to stand up to them. For example lets say the UK did what was morally right, Bibi would cry to Trump and Trump would threaten various acts of trade war.

If Burnham loses it will be because of his support for genocide.

This is white-washing history. The UK has been a genocidal, imperialist state for centuries. And they're not just letting the Palestinian genocide "slide by," the government is actively arresting and persecuting those that speak out about it even peacefully. This comment, while in the right direction, is weak.

I think about half the world has a different opinion on the tradition of the UK lmao

1 hour ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean, I endorse his message, but the UK standing for justice and against oppression is one of the boldest fabrications I have heard this side of an orange turd. That's like saying the Dutch VOC stood for equality and community value (as opposed to maximum profit).

Didn't the UK start this though? The British and French carved up the Ottomans after WWI and turned the area into puppet states, then after WWII used their control over the region to force the Palestinians from their land by gunpoint.

Didn't the UK start this!? What do ypu fucking mean, "Stand for the oppressed"!

When exactly did the UK stand up for the oppressed? My dude, the UK (and their American stepchildren) have always been the oppressors.

4 hours ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

A sketchy, bloody, imperialist history to be sure, but if you are looking for examples, the UK did invest a significant amount of capital and man hours into eradicating the slave trade where they could a few centuries back. While this would not have been possible if it didn't also serve strategic purposes of the wealthy (including ridiculous levels of compensation for 'lost property'), it would also be incorrect to argue that it wasn't also a humanitarian movement (societies are complex).

Sadly, the UK has been a bringer of injustice for centuries. Some of the most vicious.

Israel learned well from them. :(

The UK created Israel initially because they wanted the natural resources in the area. No surprise that it didn’t fall far from the tree

The most British thing in the world is to say "I feel quite angry..." Measured response. Which led to a solid and eloquent speech. But as an American I would've said "I'm fucking pissed off and all those fucking shitlickers that pretend they care can fuck off to fucking Cuntland"

As an American your current republican administrations' reaction is loosely "Let the Isralis finish the problem." and even give them bombs

and other arms to help it along faster.

Yep and they can fuckin suck on my star spangled ding dong too

The UK ... "which traditionally has stood for justice, and has stood up for the oppressed" ...

I think India, China, Pakistan, large portions of Africa, and the United States would beg to differ. As would the Palestinians, come to think.

or trans people in the uk

See? They stood for it. On the opposing side.

Beat me to it. I agree with his broader point ("why the fuck aren't we doing anything about Israel committing genocide"), and this kind of rhetoric (an appeal to national values) is well worn political tactic for good reason, but my god man, read a history book.

Maybe fighting for justice and against oppression is when white people steal land and artifacts from darker skin colors

Funny how you forget that when we realised what we had done we began to reverse our stance and lost more sailors and marines fighting slavery than any other European nation. You want to get angry get angry about the approximate 20 million people who are slaves now. Roughly 45% of which are sex slaves.

"Despotism is a legitimate mode of government in dealing with barbarians, provided the end be their improvement, and the means justified by actually effecting that end"

John Stuart Mill. Sums up how the imperialist intellectuals explain the world. The angelic power (almost always their own country) saves the peons and devastates them for their own good, always out of altruism.

Total bullshit, of course.

Funny how just about everyone thinks their country is actually pretty great historically and how not a single country actually is all that.

Ireland, Scotland

They gave them independence days! They should be more grateful!

They also took it upon themselves to near single handedly end slavery across the globe, running down and freeing slave ships, prosecuting slavers, and 'convincing' nations to abandon the trade for no reason other than a moral objection to the practice. History isn't purely black and white.

Also how they've treated the poor for decades.

Yeah, I'm sure the survivors of the concentration camps in Kenya would have an opinion on this. The lucky ones who weren't mutilated or raped with bottles or had sand pounded into their rectums until their bowels ruptured. Seemed an awful lot like Britain was the oppressor and failed to stand up to itself when Kikuyu / Mau Mau were rounded up and tortured to death solely because of their ethnicity.

THANK YOU!! I came to ask if “traditionally” was meant in a much more recent history context. And even that is sketchy. No different in the US

3 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

C'mon yo, this dude's trying to inspire his country to live up to their own aspirations. It's not the moment for all that.

Ireland as well

Just gonna point out that most of the UK's museums / galleries (including those containing colonially "acquired" items) are free entry for everyone.

Otherwise, continue with the bashing!
