I just realized, Earth is so lucky that Clark was a white dude. If the first Kryptonian to land on Earth was black or a woman, they'd 100% not tolerate any of our shit.

I always thought it was less laser eyes and more like having the ability to cause certain computers to blue screen and crash at will just by existing like a personification of the feared Y2K glitch/bug.
It’s not something the person/date did wrong it’s an error in programming & system design/maintenance that can and should be reasonably easy to resolve but so much of the everything is run on outdated BS that a slight unpredictable variance can send those shitty systems into an overload spiral.
