The climber is a world championship competitor, climbing and winning since he was a kid; the route is graded V13/8B/5.14c, which is six entire grades more difficult than the most difficult route I have ever seen in my local climbing gym - and twelve grades higher than I, a rookie climber with 2 years of experience, can do. For the vast majority of climbers it IS impossible, even if they practiced and tried really hard. It takes genetics, youth and 10 years of training. 1/2

It's definitely super hard, though you can see the chalk on a really excellent handhold there. The bouldering problems that really make my mind fold in on itself like a neutron star are the ones that seem to have practically no handholds at all - Return of the Sleepwalker is the one that comes to mind, the videos of that thing look like people are managing to stick to nothing at all, it's crazy.
The handholds are definitely well used. I would posit that the people using them are almost exclusively jumping straight up from the sand underneath, though. It's this specific leap from deep underneath with basically no clearance, aiming for a hold that's out of sight. Judging by the pads on the ground, I am also quite positive this climber has made *many* attempts before succeeding.

The pads are really standard bouldering stuff, if you hang out in areas with lots of good rocks, you can often see people carrying them around haha
