Some people believe in an afterlife, and although lacking scientific evidence there's enough anecdotal evidence that I don't want to throw the idea out wholesale. That said I'm not convinced any given version is accurate, nor that any god exists, but as religious beliefs go this is fairly innocuous.

It's called the 'Paradox of Tolerance' read it up, be better. Tolerance cannot be given to the intolerant. Also freedom of expression doesn't require mandatory acceptance. There is also a difference between a disagreement and calling out unprovoked injury. I leave you to your character growth.
