so i actually googled for washing machine symbols and got the following: 12oclock is obviously on/off, at 1 is probably pre-wash as the little "i" indicated but the symbol looks way different than it should, 2 should be main wash but its missing the lottle "ii" that should be there and the arrow suggest its 90° but it says 40° and the symbol is still weird and i would check the manual, 3 is probably synthetic, or chemical wash, dunno, symbol is weird, 4 is a stilized yarn bundle, this means >

They should invent some standard set of symbols which, combined together in specific sequences, formed concepts everyone can understand. And they could be extended to many other scenarios, not just washing machines. They should teach that system in schools so that everyone understands it.
I can't say how comments like this annoy me, sorry, no offense. Ask your mom, she knows, and if not, ask the woman who took over chores from your mom to do for you. Female tools are existing, we know how to handle these, its no rocket science, ask, learn, be responsible. I'm quite sure this IS standarized. And we could go on with less I assume. Not many smart variants in laundry. Not enough women in product design until now as well.

Overall, in my opinion, we - as a species - should agree more on universally uniform pictograms, so things like this menu would be simple and congruent around the globe.
In "middle school" (different school system) there was a one time class that went over driers and washers. it as part of houshold classes. maybe its just american school systems are to focussed on multiple choice answers tests? math also showed the diffrent between different types of interest calculations and you did budgetting. heck even the automatic tax system was part of short school topic.
