My 13-year-old nephew just finished playing Half-Life 1, Half-Life: Alyx, Half-Life 2, the two episodes, and wants to know when the next game is coming out.
It's coming out. I would bet my Steam Deck on it. They were working on a third, but Gabe said it brought nothing new to the table. Now Valve is releasing a new OS to compete with Microsoft to take over the PC gaming market. They're releasing a new Steam Controller (the Steam Deck minus the screen). And it got leaked they're working on HL3. Valve is going to release all three and Windows gaming will officially be toast.
Mike Booth, creator of L4D, making a coop shooter called Project Tacoma. "Will be of Left4Dead lineage". Can't post link. Google search with the key words should lead you to source.
With each joke about the release the release will be pushed back another 3 weeks. For more information about when it will come out and so on ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pld8wTa16Jk
HL: Alyx was so good, but I couldn't finish it because SERIOUSLY FUCK HEADCRABS IN VR! After the third one jumped at me and I stumbled backwards into the wall, that was it. And it's a shame too. It looked fantastic, and the gravity glove mechanic was about as intuitive as it gets. I mastered it in SECONDS.
Oh man, you missed two of the best levels in gaming if you didn't finish it. Dealing with Jeff is a fantastic and tense time, and when you finally stick him in the trash compactor, it's utter catharsis. Then the last level you get to shoot fucking lightning with the gravity gloves, and when the lightning takes a break you have unlimited grenades.
HL1 was one of the goats of fps gaming, HL2 was good but not quite as ground breakin, hopefully a possible HL3 can land somewhere in the middle of that.
Hl2 maybe wasn't as groundbreaking but I'd put it far above "good". It's still one of the best. And I'll also say that although it may not have been groundbreaking in terms of redefining what an fps can be like the original did, it definitely showcased the source engine in a way that presented many mechanical ideas that were nearly unheard of before it.
What? WHAT?! Dude. Go watch the Overwatch Voice Analysis on youtube. The oceans have been drained, there are empty playgrounds, there are torched citizens and crashed cars everywhere, Ravenholm was shelled with headcrab bombs - the storytelling was unmatched at the time and IMO, have never been exceeded. Black Mesa fixed a lot of what was wrong with HL1, which helps illustrate that it had a lot of room for improvement, despite being so groundbreaking.
I just started Black Mesa yesterday, I'm so bad 😂. I love the franchise and i didn't know most of the lore. I used to watch my sibling play HL and he never finished so i never saw the end 😂
One of the few games that I would 100% be fine with having no credits or anything. At least for the first few months of release. Because it *will* never live up to the hype and one can only hope it is just a good game.
I don't think that's true. The thing about nearly all of Valve's titles is that they aren't in it to make some kind of megahit series every time. Their MO is making a new game that pushes the boundaries of current technology and design ideas. They pretty much only make a new title when they have something to show off and push the boundaries with. For HL's latest entry that was VR. I think it is likely an official HL3 won't come until VR is even more accessible and advanced.
I really want to add to that list, but I'm already forgetting the names of the shows i watched and liked that didn't get more seasons (or were cancelled after announcing more seasons), even though they were some of the most watched shows on Netflix.

Rumors have it that Valve did resume production of HL3 during the pandemic and is in the final stages of development now.

At least he still has the Portal games to look forward to
Xenarion
Alyx before 2?
Rugras
But it has spoilers for the end of Ep2
unluckyandbored
That would be the canon chronological order. Alyx takes place between HL1 and 2.

From a timeline POV it could make sense as Alyx is a prequel to 2.

drinkthederpentine
Completely wrong. HL2 was revolutionary. Physics. The depth of storytelling. The face and eye tracking. All of that was crazy advanced in 2004

The endings are quite different, and Black Mesa's Xen is a lot longer and more fleshed out. I enjoyed it a lot, I need to play it again.

Yes, you can wait........

I stopped waiting when I saw what was planned for season 2. It is nice it got canceled before it was killed.
Stonemarter
Then what was the direction it would go?
Isthe4thtimethecharm
I don't remember it all, but part of it was Inara getting taken by reevers and then being raped. Giving them all space aids which they all die from.

LongCommentChainAppreciator
Resident alien is fully available on prime
PorneliusHubertII
Nice, I thought it was gonna be left unresolved.
Rinani
Except, you know Resident Alien having 4 seasons and an actual ending
PorneliusHubertII
Resident alien got canceled before a resolution....unless they got renewed and I didn't hear about it.
Rinani
Season 4 was a real ending for the show, the season was written to end the series as they knew it was the last.
