I already work a crazy amount with no vacation time but am totally with you on this. We won’t just indulge in apathy. I started a political group in my town and connected with larger national ones to put protections in my state, fight to maintain our democratic institutions, and replace maga and democratic reps with progressives in two years. I see a lot of folks here who are wondering how they can help and I am doing this for you, to build something that will empower you to fight back!
I am so fucking tired. I am already barely able to keep my own life afloat. 20+ years of neurodivergence and anxiety driven insomnia & chronic fatigue will do that to a person. Clean the house for 30 minutes and I'm in post exertional malaise for a week. I don't even know what I could possibly do when I only have the time and energy to take care of myself. I have to rely on others which only makes my endless, exhausting anxiety worse for not doing more.
I feel you so much, as a neurodivergent with disabling chronic health problems myself. It feels like we can't do anything. We're too small and exhausted. Being friends to people, helping bolster them emotionally, is already a huge help though. Not even in a rah-rah kind of way, but just helping keep people connected, providing the kindness of a hug or just checking in via IM. This is what I do, at least. I hope it helps. Good luck out there, friend.
Not a clue if I might have a breaking point moment, though. It's possible I will and go off grid. Something happening to my trans friends might do it. Still, I just don't think I have it in me to follow through on my internal catharsis in real life, too much would stop me from going that hard, certainly wouldn't want to leave my family in shock and their final memory of me being a criminal, I have too much else to lose.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUYzTcoFBe8 Pete Buttigieg's farewell speech. A reminder that democracy is a participatory form of government. If you're feeling helpless, that's no accident. You've been manipulated into that. Take baby steps, but start connecting. Find the little local things that need attention. You don't personally have to fight every single fire. You're not alone. You inspire others sometimes by just speaking up. Even when we feel fear and despair, those don't own us.
Idk why you got downvoted, but many people are understandably feeling angry, cynical, helpless, and abandoned. We failed, they won. Folks aren't in the mood for talk of hope right now, let alone talk of a fight. We want our country back. We want to be able to have a Saturday bbq if we want, to be able to afford the things we need, and some we just want. We want fairness. We're getting insanity and evil and we want to wake up and find it all undone for us. That's what I want, for sure. We're -
tired and demoralized. But cynicism isn't going to get us what we want and need. It's going to make things exponentially worse, because we'll be colluding with what we reject. Not going to curse anyone who's feeling beaten down today; I feel the same. But tomorrow, I gotta get up and pick up my tools and get back to work rebuilding democracy - or whatever will unmake this Nazi hell.
Fuck you this is so condescending. We ARE trying man the last thing we need is people on the other side of the world who can't possibly recognize all the work we do and have done to bitch and moan at us about not doing enough when we are doing all we can. It's kind of hard to change the country when half of the people voted for Trump and everyone in power is working with him
My country doesn't have the world's largest military and nuclear arsenal, and my people aren't giving control of it to a deranged psychopathic fascist. Had that been the case, the world would have every right to shit on my people and my country. Honestly it's amazing how many of you Americans get butthurt and confrontational about this. Your country is dragging all of us in the world into a dark era. Perhaps humanity's last. You have more important things to do with the little time you have.
And what exactly should we do? As a 42 year old severely mentally ill poor single mom with a broken body from a lifetime of hard labor, what should I do? I don't want what's happening. I want things to change
If I as a Kiwi can find the Americans here and elsewhere who are trying to organise, you certainly can too. I'm obviously not going to reveal them here but it really isn't hard to find the good among you to join forces with. Find one another. Unite and organise. Do whatever you can, no matter how much or little that may be. Some of you may have more time,
resources, skills, etc and some of you will have less. But when you act as an organised, united People and not as isolated individuals, every little bit adds up. Even if you're just printing flyers overnight and posting them somewhere the next day while walking to the grocers.
Folks in the US are BARELY able to make ends meet. There's no community or societal support. A majority of folks are literally just trying to get through the day. Manage their family, not fall into deep exhaustion because they haven't had a vacation day in 6 years. Folks nursing injuries and illnesses they can't get seen. If you think we're all just twiddling our thumbs over here, you've missed the fucking plot.
I feel this misses my point and to piles on more of the same sentiment. Asking people who can barely feed their family, who are desperate and one mistake away from ruin to just....find a little bit more energy feels especially cruel.
Would you prefer the People of this earth be silent as your country threatens to wipe us all out in one nuclear swoop? The intention is not to be cruel. Of course you can't all be heroes, but you can all do whatever you can, no matter how much or little that may be. When you organise as a People and not as individuals, every little bit adds up.
I'm simply asking for you to understand why people have zero energy and are not able to focus on anything other than survival. Especially today of all days. Of course people should help where they can, but there are going to be a LOT of people who simply cannot, and we need to be compassionate.
We *liked* Hitler up until he threatened our economic interests. All this freedom and equality crap is something we use to justify attacking our rivals--none of it has ever been real.
This, today, is who we are. This is who we have always been.
I’d also love to hear anyone’s suggestions for how to plan for a counter the worlds richest piece of shit buying one of the largest social media apps and weaponizing it for one candidate. Go ahead. What the fuck were we voters supposed to do about that? I’m embarrassed AF for my country’s decision, but please tell me what to do about that now. Be fucking specific.
“Dear, what’d you do today on the Internet?” “I told some people who hate Trump what they should do about Trump.” “How’d it go?” “Pretty well! I had no ideas they didn’t already think of or that hadn’t already been tried. And I timed my message on the first day of their misery. If nothing else, I helped them find their sense of national shame.”
No. I shared my fears with the Americans, and my wishes that they wake up to a true democracy like the one we Kiwis fought to have here. That their country will be sane again and not threaten humanity with climate/nuclear armageddon. I shared those fears and wishes despite knowing I'd be abused by them for it. If my kids get forced to go to war because of your People, I'll share this post with them. I'll show them how Americans responded to it.
Hey, bud, last thing I'll say- the type of language you're using is devoid of empathy, or putting yourself in others shoes. And that's the kind of bigotry that got us here. Go have a little lie down and a think.
The majority of us are pissed and embarrassed. The problem is we lack money and power….its not about protest or numbers or writing a letter….we are stranded on a primate country where ignorance is celebrated and majority rules doesn’t work in this asylum. The idiots have taken over….im not paying federal taxes this year- that is my only form of protest I can manage.
Money isn't important anymore, attention is. Both times Trump won he spent vastly less money than the Democrats. Why? He didn't need money to capture everyone's attention (Twitter/X, podcasts, etc.).
If you lack money and power, but have time, use it to find groups near you and offer your support with whatever skills you have. Numbers, and organization are what comes before real change.
I don't actually think we're a majority anymore, otherwise that election would have gone a different way. The pro-trumps outnumber the anti-trumps and the rest of the voting age population either doesn't care or leans more towards pro-trump.
So think outside the box, surrender is not an option. Educate the idiots, do something, it is not going away by itself, and the echochamber approach is part of what got you there in the first place. - break the wheel!
Taxes don’t fund the government when the government controls its own currency. The government spends what it wants at a deficit and taxes offset that deficit. And if Trump’s last term is any indication, his administration has no problem with jacking up the deficit.
Never been a fan of corporate welfare, which I have felt our money went to for years. It’s hard because I’m pissed and frustrated- we need to do something
Me too, I just don’t know what. I’ve never been much for social media but I’ve been using Bluesky and Imgur to connect with people as outraged as I am as a first step. But sooner rather than later I think bigger steps will be needed.
I don't actually think we're a majority anymore, otherwise that election would have gone a different way. The pro-trumps outnumber the anti-trumps and the rest of the voting age population either doesn't care or leans more towards pro-trump.
But remember: Trump votes were actually less than 2% more than Harris votes, but what the real decider was the over 30% of eligible voters who didn't cast a vote. Based on much data, a majority of those non-voters would likely have been Dems, but were not willing to vote Harris. All that is to say that it's not really that likely that pro-MAGA actually do outnumber anti-Trumps, and many who did vote R are now seriously regretting that. So it's possible that a reckoning could still succeed.
But remember when everyone knew Trump was gonna lose in 2016? Those uncast votes don't actually matter since they're uncast. I'm not really trying to make anyone depressed or disenfranchised by making these observations. I'm not even making any conclusions based off them, I just think people need to consider it when moving forward.
I totally understand, but I'm just saying that hopefully a decent amount of those non-voters will see the blatantly illegal and unconstitutional, Imperialistic moves he's trying to pull, along with the blatantly xeno- and homophobic and anti-female nonsense, and maybe enough of the R-voters who are now seeing the light and are having buyer's remorse will band together and start giving some good hard push back. Maybe it's just a dream but I've got to cling to some small shred of hope.
Don’t forget election interference, on a massive and coordinated scale. I predict in the fullness of time it will turn out that Trump stole BOTH elections.
Just remember: there are a thousand different reasons why people voted for Trump. No group is a monolith, and the MAGA die-hards are not a majority. Most Trump voters are just desperate people hoping for some change (any change) to our broken systems. When Trump fails to deliver meaningful change, they will look for someone else to follow.
He has an entire corrupt legislative party behind him, a stacked SCOTUS and sycophants in cabinet positions with no ethics or moral compass. All we can do is protest and be allies/defenders to those they're trying to erase and do our best to survive the next 4 years.
The next 2 years. Historically, Congress flips against whichever party is in the White House during mid-terms. If we start getting out the vote and supporting state level races now, we have two years to roar back with a vengeance. It's hard to feel hopeful, but it's the most actionable, proven thing we've got at the moment.
Nah. There's not much we can do. America spoke decisively with their votes and it wasn't just white people. Just about every demographic increased votes for Trump than in 2020. Black women, I believe are the only exception.
I only ever hear you cowards speaking of voting when the entire system is fucked. I never hear you guys talk about getting together and overthrowing the fascists like you're supposed to because you don't want to get out of your comfort zone.
This thread is wild. Most of us didn’t vote for him (I sure AF did not). Beyond voting and or donating, what is your bulletproof anti-fascist playbook? There are several countries that would like a copy right now. I know lots who did direct action legal work, door knocking, poll working etc. There are about 1,000 armchair revolutionaries on this app and none of yall have come up with a better idea than to tell us what we’re already know: we failed. Thanks for fucking stopping by.
You're welcome, as a Kiwi who despite the insults I get from people like you, would rather your people and your children woke up to freedom and true democracy, rather than Gilead. Here are some easy starters for you, from one of your own country-people by the sounds of it, so you won't feel like you're taking orders from a "Foreigner". /gallery/0XH29d6/comment/2439490847
I suggest we spread the word of a BOYCOTT on X. Never stop telling people to fully boycott x and Facebook. Don't visit the websites. Don't support the billionairs who support Trump.
Remember 2017? The women’s march? I do. I was there. Did it work? Did protests work? Sometimes they do, but you’re suggesting that we all “get up,” like we did in 2017, like we did at the polls this year, and here we are. So please, tell us what we Americans who have opposed Trump for over 8 years, the millions who organized and voted and donated and protested, what should we do now? Know your audience. We’re not the ones you’re mad at.
You took that as an insult? My sincere apologies. Conversely, whether you intended it as insult to suggest that there was more we could do to stop Trump or more we can do now came across as at best naive and at worse piling the fuck on. Also, I read the advice in the link and it’s all fine, it just won’t make a damn difference to have stopped or to stop Trump. So again, tell us from afar what we should do now, because that’s the conversation your post invited. So let’s talk.
I mean there *is* a fucking ton more people could be doing. Organizing and getting out into the street to fucking riot when he starts doing insane shit would be the literal bare minimum. But people are content to sadpost on imgur and other social media, clearly, instead of *actually* doing a goddamn thing
Again, tell us what it is besides either an ironic post about online activism or telling some dude with kids being a vigilante is an option. People who opposed Trump did what they could. The fact that he won shouldn’t be license for the rest of the world who hates Trump to pile on the Americans who also hate Trump. That’s what this post is about and why it’s really poor fucking timing…
As a counterpoint, if you need to have basic concepts explained to you like a child, there's no wonder they won. Do you think the right had someone sit down with them and explain to them in minute detail how to organize, plan together, run for local offices, march in the streets? You have the sum of human knowledge at your fucking fingertips. You have DECADES of organizational history from around the world from countries who are actively fighting against authoritarian regimes. People who 1/
Know who you're talking to, mate. I was shouting from the rooftops here for years, before they elected him in 2016 even. Here's just one example. /gallery/JyjbNx3 . And all that time, I had people like you insulting me for it. People like you clearly didn't stop me then, and won't stop me now.
This is whet we need to solve. How do we fight back. How do we engage and mobilize? I think that we know in our hearts what that answer is and it requires the acceptance of great self loss
Start small. Read some books on it. I saw a list floating around on how to resist. Repost real news. Make sure you’re spending your money responsibly to reputable companies who don’t support the movement. Cancel Amazon, donate to causes you believe in talk to people. Spread good information.
Why do Americans need help with this? So many other populations out there organising and mobilising, and Americans, after all the "Punch a Nazi" memes they've posted are showing too be all sizzle and no sausage. There are those among you who are organising. They'd wish tuketuke fellow Americans would help instead of giving up. Find them, help them, however you can. Become a nationwide team. Even printing flyers for any resistance is better than doing nothing.
There's more to this than the Will of The Working folk, it's the Will of The Moneyed Elite that comes into play. while the Honest majority of the country might be in opposition to the "Leadership" the Vocal, Rich, Minority hold all the cards, and have stacked the deck in their advantage.
Yes, exactly, the problem is that there are a handful of rich fucks that keep putting the rest of us against one another. Division has been the most powerful tool to keep themselves in power. We have strength in numbers, united we are stong, but the problem is like the prisoner's dilemma and similar experiments where it's sjown time and again that people will sell out their peers to save themselves rather than realizing that a ceasefire and joining forces would make a better outcome for all.
Start small. Repost actual news. Donate to causes doing the right thing. Read books about this stuff. CANCEL YOUR AMAZON ACCOUNT and make sure your money is going to the right places (as much as possible)
For some, quite sadly, Amazon is the only option for shopping. I've been moraly and ethically opposed to both Amazon and Walmart for years. I have the luxury of being able to shop local, for most things.
So, you're not from here, nor do you live here, so I can forgive your lack of grasping the situation. Less than 1/4 of the voting age populace voted for him. That sucks, but it's also what happened. The rest of us, voters or not, have zero ability to do jack shit at this stage, so I will take umbrage at your insinuation that we're all over here faffing about while there's something to be done. There isn't, at least not till the next election and who knows how effective that'll be.
The other populations around the world who are fighting with all they have to protect their freedoms, democracies and loved ones would have choice words for you.
Get up? Like stand up? And then what? I'm not kidding. What do I do?
Partly because I don't fucking know what to do and partly because if I stand up for too long I'm gonna get sick and pass out, so I really should have a goal in mind before I stand...
Please stop yelling at us with these vague commands about how we need to not let this happen. If you don't have specific advice, please just commiserate with and encourage us.
This is sharing my fears with you, for my kids, for your kids, for this world. I literally begged you guys to work together. It's not a pride thing. Too many of you have had a kneejerk misinterpretation of this post as being some kind of condescension.
Well then go back and read your words from the perspective of an American. Because I'm an exhausted scared American that doesn't know wtf to do, but I just keep getting told this vague shit about "getting up" while others say that it's my fault that it's all happening because I haven't somehow made it stop yet.
I'm focusing on personal/hyper-local stability and safety. It's all I can do. If I find more I can do, I will. But this call to action thing is not helpful.. It's too vague to be useful.
Step 1 for me was to get involved directly in my local community. Have a topic you are really passionate about? Let's say it's animal welfare, search "animal safety non profit Your City" and see what pops up. Call them up, ask one question "How can I get involved?" That one call can be the catalyst to learning about so many things you can do (within your abilities too- I say this as someone with a chronic illness) to get started, and bonus- you'll meet so many more folks locally to organize with
Damn bro I still have to fucking work. I asked my wife "at what point do we join a protest" or something like that? And she didn't have an answer either. I'm not worried about myself. But I have enough empathy and knowledge that it could affect me eventually because I don't mess around with nazis. So I guess I should just get out and protest.
I know people post "no defeatism" but the average person isn't a fighter. They're scared. They have close family, friends, and sometimes children. They have a lot to lose personally and see the bigger fight as something they wish they could take part in but worry that they'll either die in the process and leave those closest to them or worse, those closest to them will be used against them/threatened. For many, the fight is over. They'll just try and keep their heads down now.
What are we supposed to do? Apparently breaking the law is not enough. The orange guy literally got away with trying to stage a coup. We have a supreme court that is stacked up against us. And now these people have complete control of the government with nothing to stop them. We've had eight years of this. Our legal and political system simply failed us completely.
Hi I live in America and I'm a single mother, disabled, and unable to do anything because I'm not a citizen. Pray tell would you have me do, oh kiwi overlord?
Dear Kiwi, while I appreciate the sentiment, it's not as easy as "go out and fight". They control absolutely everything. Their rabid followers are 100% prepared to be violent and the judicial system is packed with his supporters. The police are not your friends or allies. The military is a crap shoot because #unlawfulorders can be ignored but he still has followers there. You don't seem to realize if he said the words "open season on trans folk with no punishment" it'd be purge day. I'm trans.
I spent most of my younger years in the infantry. Fought in several theaters. Got the wounds and mental trauma that goes with it. I'm done fighting. I have a family to take care of. So we left the US. But all of my income is tied to my VA benefits so if they fully defund that, I have nothing. It's too goddamn hard to get jobs in other countries so US citizens would literally be STUCK in the us with nowhere to go. No money. No food. Hard to fight with an empty belly.
It's incredibly easy to sit safely afar and bark orders and utter empty suggestions and words of non empathetic meaning to people who are already scared to death. We have no healthcare. Not everyone owns guns. Ever fought in a war? I have. It's not fucking easy. Can you comprehend the sheer size of the US? 1500 miles gets you just under half way across it. To drive takes 4 days. To fly takes 4 to 5 hours. 2 whole mountain ranges. Friend, reach with your hand, don't just point your finger.
We'd be deported or imprisoned for acting as foreign agents interfering with your country. I find the suggestion that you would want foreigners to come and save your democracy for you extremely self deprecating toward yourself and your People. There are 330 million of you Americans. Surely there are enough among you with a spine and a will to take responsibility for yourselves, your country and your democracy.
Maybe you should tend to yours instead of wasting your time googling whatever negativity you can find to silence people asking yours to not let the Nazis win. Our "Right wing" gov is only right wing by our standards. By American standards, it's still left wing, making your own democrat party look right wing. And even then, take a moment longer to learn about my country. See our protests. See the hikoi we lead from around the country against that gov. We act. Time you Americans do the same.
You say to learn about your country, but you forget what our armed forces are willing to do to peaceful protestors. Compared to that, it makes your protests look like tea parties. Maybe try protesting with a barrel aimed at your head sometime and see if you can still act high and mighty.
When you tell me I'm high and mighty for wanting you Americans to wake up in a democracy, not a dictatorship, and wishing that you won't nuke me, my children and all of us in the world into oblivion, it tells me a lot.
The insane level of ignorant arrogance it takes to assume no foreigner could possibly know anything about New Zealand without looking it up, while also presuming to preach moral authority.
Well it's happened far too often to me, that an American who's furious about me wanting them to vote against a fascist goes and finds whatever they can trawl the internet for against my country, and then claim I have no right to an opinion on their country because something bad happened in mine at some point. I hope you'll direct your rage at your new Hitler rather than the guy who wants you guys to have a true democracy like we have here.
dude. Most couldn't get above apathy to go out and VOTE. Just to simply take a bit of time out of one day - if they didn't bother to mail-it-in - just to vote for the non-Fascist.
The whole world is disappointed in the American People in that regard, I think (save people like Putin and Xi perhaps), but it's not too late for Americans to avert their country from going the way of Nazi Germany.
I agree, it's not too late. The fight is just starting. Tbh, Dems literally switched (forced) a candidate out because he stuttered and was old. So the people ain't all to blame on that. You must also understand, that in some states they deliberately make it hard for people that are Dems or liberal learning to vote, which accounts for a portion of the no shows
Voter turnout was 64% this year, which is historically very good. The higher voter turnout may have actually hurt Dems though. Low information voters don't respond well to lectures on morality and labeling opponents as fascists (they view it as hyperbole). Instead, they cared about cost of food & rent. Dems just didn't do a good enough job with messaging to those voters.
Honestly, these talking points don't stick outside USA. The man is a self confessed gleeful sex predator (grab em by the p*ssy) who repeatedly fantasised out loud about his own daughter. Those facts alone even without all the fascist stuff would've disqualified him in the eyes of a morally sound population. So to hear that he got elected because of party strategies and so on... It's just not the real reason. His power is a symptom of a sickness in American society.
When people feel like the world is out of control, and someone comes in and promises to fix it, many people are willing to overlook an awful lot of "morally disqualifying" character flaws. If you think that is a uniquely American issue, you are a pretty poor student of history.
On the contrary, we learned exactly this in our history classes so that we as a population wouldn't be duped like the Germans had been, or like the Americans are now.
Right-wingers are praising the Hitler salute. Half the country couldn't be bothered to vote in the first place. We can't afford to protest. We can't afford to organize. We can't afford healthcare. What do you expect us to do? CoNtAcT oUr CoNgReSsPeRsOn? Those that are part of the ruling party are complicit in this, and those that are against it don't have any power. We are in a dark timeline for the next 4 years minimum. At this point there is no "fight". There is only "survive".
About half the country supports this guy. The rest of us aren't billionaires, and we don't want to spend the rest of our lives in prison. There aren't a lot of actual options in a country that allows UNLIMITED donations to political candidates. Your country would be just as fucked too.
Our country wouldn't reach your country's stage because we would never entertain the idea of electing a self-confessed sex predator who fantasises about fascist dictatorships when he's not fantasising about his own daughter on live TV. There are People in other parts of the world facing risks greater than imprisonment, still defending their freedoms, their democracies and their loved ones from tyranny. It's time Americans stopped making excuses for their inaction, and grow a collective spine.
That's ok there are many Americans here who share my feelings and pre-emptively apologised on behalf of their fellow Americans who make comments like yours. You don't need people in other countries to be helpful. You need to help yourselves and posting memes won't change the trajectory your country is on.
Guys, it's important to start somewhere. You can find any state or local official, and ask their policies about things you are concerned about. Leave comments, even if it is taking up an intern's time, ask what the official's stance is on something. It's not glamorous, and it is tedious, but it is something. https://www.usa.gov/elected-officials
I think you're the first person on this thread, including OP, to actually suggest and post links to small, actionable forms of resistance. You're right, resistance is tedious and unheroic when seen as one person. If all we've got left are mosquito bites on the ass of corrupted officials, we can sure make sitting on their thrones uncomfortable.
Yeah ok great. I happen to be 🏳️⚧️. They're already coming after us. I can't shit in 33 states. They are making it illegal for me to exist, and you want me to....?
Can the rest of the world step the fuck up for once and stop bitching at us? We're trying! We are fighting a corporatocracy with a choke-hold on our government.
I've been telling people to burn all of it down since 08. Great sentiment Kiwi, how about solutions? Support? Clandestine foces? Or are you just gonna wag your finger?
In 1996, Democrats helped to pass the Defense of Marriage Act, banning same-sex marriage in the US on the Federal level. 19 years later, the Supreme Court declared the law unconstitutional, and in 2022 DOMA was completely repealed and replaced with a law that affirms the right to same-sex marriage in the US. My point is: it's a long road. You shouldn't expect to win overnight, so don't give up the fight.
We have been trying to get rights expanded and free healthcare since the Obama admin. We are being drowned out by big money. Flint is still a nightmare. Police are more funded than they were in 2020. Roe is STILL overturned.
It's so easy to criticize us from a hemisphere away. Your country is 250 miles smaller, and less populated than my state and I live in CO. Try making 300mil people from everywhere, agree on anything I dare you
We are not asleep. Stop pretending we're ignorant.
You can't blame us when we only saw a third of your People vote against him. Don't take my words as arrogant pontificating. They're words of fear. I'm terrified for my kids and the world, of the path your People are going to drag us all down if you don't stop your country from going full Nazi. There are 330 million of you. The good among you surely must be able to find one another and organise.
Don't know why you got so much hate on this. I'm glad we are being criticized after this loss. But, you must understand, the power of choice was taken away from us also when the Dems made there own mind to switch candidates. A divided open had loses to a closed fist all the time.
There are 330 million of us, but about a dozen of them have more money than god. And when you break down 150 million people to nearly broke, they’ll take the fake economy promises. If I personally beat you nearly to death and gave you the option to keep lying on the floor or let me give you stitches, you’d likely choose me.
That's exactly it, this is systemic and the stage has been being set for decades. That said, knowing the mechanisms behind it, it's also clear that this will not stop until the people make it stop. Enough people have to get desperate and angry enough to say enough is enough and take to the streets, I think. It seems optimistic to believe that this will change without violence, but the option is to keep being squeezed until you pop.
Mmm... i see you chose finger wagging from halfway across the world instead of literally anything helpful. You think you're scared for your children? I have an 11-month-old, and I live in the US. Stop hiding behind your children. We arm ours with bulletproof backpacks. What are you willing to do to help us? The whole world is on the edge of its seat. How about you help? Stop putting all the onus on we that are already fighting and break out your Haka.
And what do expect someone on the other side of the planet to be able to do, when you say *we* can't do anything about it? People in other countries didn't fuck us over -- WE did.
To give a straight answer. Everyone wants us to "do something" but when asked what that something is they immediately drop back into finger wagging saying it shouldn't of happened.
I voted against Trump, I have been helping everyone I can while being unable to afford to live myself. So when told to "do something" what would that be?
I'm embarrassed for you, that you'd suggest other people do the duty you and your 330 million have to your own democracy. We are doing ours, working hard out here to defend our own freedoms, successfully for now, all of which will be for naught if your People fail to prevent your country from going full Nazi on us and even blowing up the whole world. The bullet proof backpacks on your kids backs are only another result of your own People's failures to protect that which should be dear to you.
Pfft. I know your type. You're the kind of person that asks someone bleeding out why they didn't have fause at the ready. You should immigrate to the US. You'd make a great rebublucan lawnaker. Usless ass platitudes and all.
Wtaf... "your people"?? We don't control them! They are individuals that make their own stupid ass decision. What exactly, step by step, are we supposed to be doing?? Many of us are just working on surviving.
Well, let's be real. Most people *arent* trying. Where's the riots or even fucking protests? That would be *something* to call trying. People are content to post sad memes online than actually do anything
Yeah I agree with this. Maybe the media isn't showing it, or the riots aren't large enough. It's weird. Wouldn't surprise me that other countries are just as afraid and don't want to anger America by showing the resistance.
Okay. Are you out there with them? Are you supporting them in any way, shape, or form? Are you telling people about them, tangibly supporting them even a little?
Yes, I've gone three times so far. Because I've been out so much I contracted a norovirus and them now practically bed bound. Any other advice from the world's greatest activist?
If you're wondering why three is a lot for me, it's because I'm disabled. I'm also a member of my local DSA and although I'm in poverty, I donate every quarter to their groundwork campaigns. Hope that's enough for you. I'm also wondering if you're expecting the same from every single mother, or someone working three jobs.
I like your energy, but that time is over. All we can do here is hope and help people however we can. I voted. I donated to Kamala's campaign. I talked to people about voting. My damn state voted blue, but I can't change the morons in the red states. Any work I do will be undone by them, because the Democrats have not been courting the working class.
Please remember that there are also millions of people in red states who did not vote for this, and have been working diligently against it. Can we please stop demonizing specific states, because there are so many of us who can’t leave, and are fighting, but the odds are stacked against us. This pushes folks away from the movement. Thanks
There are 330 million of you. It's time to think as a People, not as individuals. The good among you can find one another around the country and organise, just as other populations around the world have done throughout history up to today. Some of you will have more time, others less. Some with more useful skills, others less. Some with more resources, others less. So find each other. Help each other. Organise together. Do whatever each of you can, but as a collective. Don't just give up.
330 million, of which 75 million voted for Harris, therefore have a chance to care. That's about 25% give or take. Only a small amount of those 75 million are in any position to do much at all. We aren't going to storm the capital building and shit on things. The reality is the DNC has been failing HARD for more than a decade, and we're in an oligarchy. The only way out of an oligarchy is violence, and how many are ready for that?
Where are the Americans who see what's at stake and don't look for excuses to be inactive in the face of it. We see other populations around the world facing harsh odds as they defend their freedoms, their democracies and their loved ones from fascism and tyranny. I don't see them making excuses or just posting a Luigi meme before calling it a day.
Here’s the issue, until the non voters and slightly right fence sitters start feeling the pain, which will be soon, we can’t do a lot. It’s not 50/50 population, it’s a divided 60% and the other 40% don’t give a shit yet
They're getting downvoted because it's empty BS words. The time to think as people was on election day. Nothing they said in the message was meaningful, it was just positivity from an outsider's perspective that doesn't seem to understand how utterly fucked we are in the US. We don't need to hear another Live, Laugh, Love speech. The only L people want to hear is more Luigis.
Love how you people post Luigi memes, cheer him on but when it comes to actually going outside and fighting fascists yourself then you suddenly can't do anything. So sad. Fucking cowards.
When we see Raikupath also doing something about it, I'm sure we'll follow your lead. Until then, we have families we need to provide for. As I said in another comment, we can't afford to protest or organize. Majority of America lives paycheck to paycheck, and missing a day of work could mean not enough for rent. Unless you're gonna do it yourself or you're gonna pay for our families while we're gone, go fuck yourself.
How do you suggest doing that? We have families we need to provide for. As I said in another comment, we can't afford to protest or organize. Majority of America lives paycheck to paycheck, and missing one day of work could mean not enough for rent.
Cool what should we do smarty pants? I'm already receiving death threats for being outspoken about it. My daughter received rape threats in elementary school because I laughed at Trump for being a felon. Go on whats your advice? Be specific, no more bland pump you up nonsense. Specific details of what I should do and how. Let's hear it.
Alright there Richy Rich. Once I win the lottery I'll get right on that. Also, have you looked at immigration processes? It's pretty difficult to figure out how to navigate usually.
look. be as pissed as you wish. but that is literally the only meaningful way how you can communicate that you do not want to live this way. That is what anyone else migrating is doing.
Sorry to say that we are going to have to suffer for a bit. You and people like you more than most. A french style revolution or general strike is going to be required to change things now and people are not feeling the pain yet to do either.
Fight for every media outlet, every journalist that is being banned, censored, sacked or labelled an “enemy of the state” – there’s no hope for freedom where there is no free press. read what Bohrdumb posted below
This is something ive been thinking about a lot. Not everyone is suited to go full Rambo. I'm not a tank, I'm a healer and support... so I'm going to look for ways that I can take care of the people that I can, that i stand up for what is right when I see injustices happening, and do my best in my own environment to clog the wheels of fascism. I'm terrified of what the next few years will bring, but we're all gonna have to find our own ways to fight.
As an outsider (non-American) looking in, your country boasts about the 2nd amendment being created to deal with a tyrannical government. Everyone knows what -should- be done about it but they're also smart enough to know that if you come right out and say it, you get arrested. Perhaps the sarcastic response isn't the best response here.
Organize and work together with other like minded individuals. For the time being it's still possible to find others who believe the same as you. Use the same tools these sycophant deploables found one another. The push has been towards division for a reason and has to be fought against. Do not let them divide you because that's how they win. Apes together strong.
Start getting ready to use force to defend yourself and your family. This is only the beginning and things will escalate from here. Isn't this why yanks all have guns? Vigilantes taking out "undesirables" are not too far away it seems.
The authorities aren't on your side, and they don't care if you get death threats.
I (and 14 of my friends) had a written (and signed) threat of death, delivered by the threatener himself, ON CAMERA in 2020. You know what happened? the cops never even picked him up. Eventually, he was picked up on something COMPLETELY different, and we pleaded for them to do anything. You know what they did? "Unfit to stand trial" then they turfed him back into the city.
Arm yousrself motherfucker. Organize a community of resistance, disrupt them in any legal or barely legal ways you possibly can, store hidden casches of weapons, ammo, provisions, and medical supplies all around. Have escape plans. Find places where you can hold out a siege . Go underground. Build tunnels. Know your enemy around you and be ready to make the first move. Theres a lot of stuff you can do.
This is the heart of the case against Giuliani, and it angers me no end that once again he faces no consequences. This is happening because there are no consequences, because it gets them what they think they want, and because that's become the MAGA cultural norm for how to respond to "enemies". They get it from Trump. Idk how to stop this, but leaving each other to face this alone isn't the answer.
Start reading accounts of European resistance fighters who survived. Learn what they did and how. Prepare to start doing the same. Pray it does not come to that.
Register for every local election. Look up each candidate, check their campaign, their Facebook or whatever.
Do we want the republican ex cheerleader for family court, or do we want the guy who runs name change clinics for LGBTQ community members that need it?
They make voting hard, they make following things hard, but it has to be done, change has to start from the ground up.
Vote for everyone, every time, fill out the entire ballot. Then get everyone you know to do the same.
No one coordinates enough on encrypted messaging to do anything. It can be fun to think of liberals all signing up for the infantry then taking all those guns to washington but obviously that wouldn't work in practice. Sadly if people couldn't be bothered to put two and two together that maybe they should vote this election even if they don't like the candidates I'm hard pressed to believe they'll do anything necessary to overthrow the nazi takeover.
No one likes to say it, but the answer is violence. But a lot of people aren't ready to make that commitment, for one reason or another. There are valid concerns, family, personal well being, ect but the answer to this threat is violence
The only thing you can do is deal with the nazis the way your ancestor's did. Or you can complain and watch it all go down. Either way your comfortable life is over. Decide what you want
Look.. I'm not American so I don't know how bad it is there or whether I am in my own bubble or not. But anyone who stood up and did what's good got very quickly eliminated under the Nazis. Hopefully it won't come to that and the usual rules of civilised society will apply.. but they are becoming more brazen. At some point you guys will have to use those guns you have accumulated or lose everything to salami tactics. Might be too late though.
To anyone reading this, not just the one posting it: If you and your family are receiving threats, get a lawyer and call authorities. Don't roll over or hide. Deal with the threats in a civil way. If that doesn't work, deal with the threats in a less than civil way. Do not accept threats on your safety.
Relax. Step back. … that question of “what do you recommend we do?” (Paraphrased) was (*is* I imagine for the questioner- as well as for me and countless others in this/ our situation) NOT a toy nor a game. WE, some of, us including [assuming so] the questioner, ARE needing / wanting input. … Snarky back-and-forth is useless. So are the [Dem] leaders, so far. … Gently. Thoughtfully. If you’ve genuine constructive suggestions, please do offer up. Otherwise: Assumption empathy is also absent 🫵🏼
*i upvoted this x 10, sorry, not sorry. Every greedy, hypocritical, authoritarian, faux conservative, power mad, anti progress piece of shit. Get off the planet, meet your Jesus
boo fucking hoo, if your choice is talking to them through a glass barrier or watching them get drafted by Cheato Benito Mussolini and then never speak to them at all again, what's your choice?
Bingo. A lot of arm chair revolutionaries in this thread, ready to tell everyone else we failed but no one here appears to have been first up to show us the way. To anyone saying Luigi is the answer, seems fair to reply “you first.”
Do whatever you want, it's your choice. That being said, do you know what germans were called that argued exactly like you do during WWII? Nazis. Inaction and compliance are the same thing, history does not care for your motives.
Whilst i appreciate the sentiment, if you, or your children are in any way progressive, all you are doing is delaying the glass barrier. If you even get a glass barrier.
I'm nearly certain plenty of folks in Germany felt the way you did back when it started there too, and it didn't matter to the Nazi's whether you had decided to let them trample over or not, they sent people to the camps regardless.
Glass barrier now, or your children in potentially far worse situations later is the road now
Do you have children? Are you going to take up arms and start hunting CEOs? You show a very limited imagination by assuming my opposition to lone-wolfing means I haven't already considered the horrors ahead. Don't forget that packing up and running in order to get your children away from harm is also a brave and terrifying choice.
I live in Ireland. The last time we needed to, this country absolutely did what was necessary.
Whilst not perfect, the country has been on a positive path and generally very progressive since.
If there is no way for you to fight and you have the means to get your children to safety is absolutely a valid choice. But not everyone will have the means/option to run, and everyone who runs leaves the people left with less opposition.
You might have to anyway if one of them is trans, gay or anything else they decide to outlaw. That's the sad truth.
You're choosing, along with a lot of other people, to preserve what you still have out of fear of losing it, without realizing that you might lose more by doing nothing.
I get it. I'm not saying it's wrong to want to preserve what you can. I'm just saying that collectively sitting on your hands hasn't worked out so far, so why think it will with what's coming?
Im saying I'm not volunteering myself to go out and start assassinating CEOs. You assume that's the same as doing nothing. You are wrong and presumptuous.
I'm bi. I have trans and gay family. I live in Missouri. I'm way ahead of you in terms of worrying about what the future holds for my children. That's why they're getting passports.
Yeah, except if you get caught staying in a country you're not legally allowed to stay in, you'll have bigger issues when you're forced to return to the US. That might paint a target on your backs.
As for what I assume, I figure that you did everything you thought you could in order to preserve what you have. I don't think I'm wrong there.
It's ok. You're opting to try to preserve what you have left. A lot of folks are.
But, it might be too late for that now. I hope I'm wrong.
Well, when those groups become above ground, then let me know. Underground anything means that they don't want to be discovered or found. Not to mention, aren't those groups supposed to stop stuff like this from happening in the first place? It kind of seems like they failed to me.
JunkNStuf
I already work a crazy amount with no vacation time but am totally with you on this. We won’t just indulge in apathy. I started a political group in my town and connected with larger national ones to put protections in my state, fight to maintain our democratic institutions, and replace maga and democratic reps with progressives in two years.
I see a lot of folks here who are wondering how they can help and I am doing this for you, to build something that will empower you to fight back!
KleptoKea
Thanks for sharing this. I hope more of the good among you will find one another and organise to help, protect and resist.
CPTBRUMBL3Z
I am so fucking tired. I am already barely able to keep my own life afloat. 20+ years of neurodivergence and anxiety driven insomnia & chronic fatigue will do that to a person. Clean the house for 30 minutes and I'm in post exertional malaise for a week. I don't even know what I could possibly do when I only have the time and energy to take care of myself. I have to rely on others which only makes my endless, exhausting anxiety worse for not doing more.
OscelotHaalan
I feel you so much, as a neurodivergent with disabling chronic health problems myself. It feels like we can't do anything. We're too small and exhausted. Being friends to people, helping bolster them emotionally, is already a huge help though. Not even in a rah-rah kind of way, but just helping keep people connected, providing the kindness of a hug or just checking in via IM. This is what I do, at least. I hope it helps. Good luck out there, friend.
CPTBRUMBL3Z
Not a clue if I might have a breaking point moment, though. It's possible I will and go off grid. Something happening to my trans friends might do it. Still, I just don't think I have it in me to follow through on my internal catharsis in real life, too much would stop me from going that hard, certainly wouldn't want to leave my family in shock and their final memory of me being a criminal, I have too much else to lose.
OscelotHaalan
Lead with love instead - if we're to die, we will die as the people we wish to be.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUYzTcoFBe8 Pete Buttigieg's farewell speech.
KleptoKea
Thank you. I hope a lot of the people here claiming there's nothing that can be done will pay attention to posts like yours.
rubypilgrim
Idk why you got downvoted, but many people are understandably feeling angry, cynical, helpless, and abandoned. We failed, they won. Folks aren't in the mood for talk of hope right now, let alone talk of a fight. We want our country back. We want to be able to have a Saturday bbq if we want, to be able to afford the things we need, and some we just want. We want fairness. We're getting insanity and evil and we want to wake up and find it all undone for us. That's what I want, for sure. We're -
rubypilgrim
tired and demoralized. But cynicism isn't going to get us what we want and need. It's going to make things exponentially worse, because we'll be colluding with what we reject. Not going to curse anyone who's feeling beaten down today; I feel the same. But tomorrow, I gotta get up and pick up my tools and get back to work rebuilding democracy - or whatever will unmake this Nazi hell.
phoenix071
Fuck you this is so condescending. We ARE trying man the last thing we need is people on the other side of the world who can't possibly recognize all the work we do and have done to bitch and moan at us about not doing enough when we are doing all we can. It's kind of hard to change the country when half of the people voted for Trump and everyone in power is working with him
KleptoKea
Despite the insults, I hope you're people will wake up to a sane, democratic USA some day. One that won't be an existential threat to the rest of us.
phoenix071
So you get to insult us but I don't get to insult you back? Got it
KleptoKea
My country doesn't have the world's largest military and nuclear arsenal, and my people aren't giving control of it to a deranged psychopathic fascist. Had that been the case, the world would have every right to shit on my people and my country. Honestly it's amazing how many of you Americans get butthurt and confrontational about this. Your country is dragging all of us in the world into a dark era. Perhaps humanity's last. You have more important things to do with the little time you have.
Revicus
Thank you for the thoughts and prayers.
Becker37
And what exactly should we do? As a 42 year old severely mentally ill poor single mom with a broken body from a lifetime of hard labor, what should I do? I don't want what's happening. I want things to change
KleptoKea
If I as a Kiwi can find the Americans here and elsewhere who are trying to organise, you certainly can too. I'm obviously not going to reveal them here but it really isn't hard to find the good among you to join forces with. Find one another. Unite and organise. Do whatever you can, no matter how much or little that may be. Some of you may have more time,
KleptoKea
resources, skills, etc and some of you will have less. But when you act as an organised, united People and not as isolated individuals, every little bit adds up. Even if you're just printing flyers overnight and posting them somewhere the next day while walking to the grocers.
KatInTheCorner
Folks in the US are BARELY able to make ends meet. There's no community or societal support. A majority of folks are literally just trying to get through the day. Manage their family, not fall into deep exhaustion because they haven't had a vacation day in 6 years. Folks nursing injuries and illnesses they can't get seen. If you think we're all just twiddling our thumbs over here, you've missed the fucking plot.
KleptoKea
From another imgurian on this post: /gallery/sPcCbkX/comment/2439514555
KatInTheCorner
I feel this misses my point and to piles on more of the same sentiment. Asking people who can barely feed their family, who are desperate and one mistake away from ruin to just....find a little bit more energy feels especially cruel.
KleptoKea
Would you prefer the People of this earth be silent as your country threatens to wipe us all out in one nuclear swoop? The intention is not to be cruel. Of course you can't all be heroes, but you can all do whatever you can, no matter how much or little that may be. When you organise as a People and not as individuals, every little bit adds up.
KatInTheCorner
I'm simply asking for you to understand why people have zero energy and are not able to focus on anything other than survival. Especially today of all days. Of course people should help where they can, but there are going to be a LOT of people who simply cannot, and we need to be compassionate.
PaleChapter
We *liked* Hitler up until he threatened our economic interests. All this freedom and equality crap is something we use to justify attacking our rivals--none of it has ever been real.
This, today, is who we are. This is who we have always been.
yn44367
I’d also love to hear anyone’s suggestions for how to plan for a counter the worlds richest piece of shit buying one of the largest social media apps and weaponizing it for one candidate. Go ahead. What the fuck were we voters supposed to do about that? I’m embarrassed AF for my country’s decision, but please tell me what to do about that now. Be fucking specific.
KleptoKea
One of your fellow people posted this which i thought was a nice easy "resistance starter kit"
/gallery/apropos-of-nothing-some-digital-reminders-0XH29d6
yn44367
“Dear, what’d you do today on the Internet?” “I told some people who hate Trump what they should do about Trump.” “How’d it go?” “Pretty well! I had no ideas they didn’t already think of or that hadn’t already been tried. And I timed my message on the first day of their misery. If nothing else, I helped them find their sense of national shame.”
KleptoKea
I'll show them how Americans responded to it.
yn44367
Sounds good.
MatrimBloodyCauthon
Hey, bud, last thing I'll say- the type of language you're using is devoid of empathy, or putting yourself in others shoes. And that's the kind of bigotry that got us here. Go have a little lie down and a think.
whysomuchdoghair
Oh lord. Even the most doomery of doomers doesn't think there's gonna be a planet wide draft calm down. New Zealand isn't that special home slice.
KleptoKea
I don't care how special my country is to you. If only your own country was special enough to you though.
Chickychookchook
The majority of us are pissed and embarrassed. The problem is we lack money and power….its not about protest or numbers or writing a letter….we are stranded on a primate country where ignorance is celebrated and majority rules doesn’t work in this asylum. The idiots have taken over….im not paying federal taxes this year- that is my only form of protest I can manage.
TotallyNotVillain
Money isn't important anymore, attention is. Both times Trump won he spent vastly less money than the Democrats. Why? He didn't need money to capture everyone's attention (Twitter/X, podcasts, etc.).
MatrimBloodyCauthon
If you lack money and power, but have time, use it to find groups near you and offer your support with whatever skills you have. Numbers, and organization are what comes before real change.
MightyIink
I don't think peaceful protests are going to be an option anymore...
CheeseIsNaturesFudge
Is this not the purpose of that 2nd amendment thing the USA has?
FunkedUp
I appreciate those NOFX references
MelissaYyz
Cut out anyone who is friends with a Trump supporter. We tried to work together, that didn't work.
stevestevensonthesteve
I don't actually think we're a majority anymore, otherwise that election would have gone a different way. The pro-trumps outnumber the anti-trumps and the rest of the voting age population either doesn't care or leans more towards pro-trump.
TheDefective
Rent Strike 2026. Crash the economy on them. Demand Nationalization of Transportation and Communications Infrastructure. Right to Assemble.

So think outside the box, surrender is not an option. Educate the idiots, do something, it is not going away by itself, and the echochamber approach is part of what got you there in the first place. - break the wheel!
OneMoreLime
Their real agenda is to defund the government so unfortunately that is a protest in line with their priorities
M4UsedRollout
Taxes don’t fund the government when the government controls its own currency. The government spends what it wants at a deficit and taxes offset that deficit.
And if Trump’s last term is any indication, his administration has no problem with jacking up the deficit.
Chickychookchook
Never been a fan of corporate welfare, which I have felt our money went to for years. It’s hard because I’m pissed and frustrated- we need to do something
Wherearemydragons13
Me too, I just don’t know what. I’ve never been much for social media but I’ve been using Bluesky and Imgur to connect with people as outraged as I am as a first step. But sooner rather than later I think bigger steps will be needed.
ForceKinTim
Yeah just roll over and get oppressed. You won't even have to bother voting again. There will be no again
stevestevensonthesteve
I don't actually think we're a majority anymore, otherwise that election would have gone a different way. The pro-trumps outnumber the anti-trumps and the rest of the voting age population either doesn't care or leans more towards pro-trump.
zelda633000
But remember: Trump votes were actually less than 2% more than Harris votes, but what the real decider was the over 30% of eligible voters who didn't cast a vote. Based on much data, a majority of those non-voters would likely have been Dems, but were not willing to vote Harris. All that is to say that it's not really that likely that pro-MAGA actually do outnumber anti-Trumps, and many who did vote R are now seriously regretting that. So it's possible that a reckoning could still succeed.
stevestevensonthesteve
But remember when everyone knew Trump was gonna lose in 2016? Those uncast votes don't actually matter since they're uncast. I'm not really trying to make anyone depressed or disenfranchised by making these observations. I'm not even making any conclusions based off them, I just think people need to consider it when moving forward.
zelda633000
I totally understand, but I'm just saying that hopefully a decent amount of those non-voters will see the blatantly illegal and unconstitutional, Imperialistic moves he's trying to pull, along with the blatantly xeno- and homophobic and anti-female nonsense, and maybe enough of the R-voters who are now seeing the light and are having buyer's remorse will band together and start giving some good hard push back. Maybe it's just a dream but I've got to cling to some small shred of hope.
stevestevensonthesteve
Well, we hoped that would happen between 2016-2020, and here we are.
sideeyehussle
Don’t forget election interference, on a massive and coordinated scale. I predict in the fullness of time it will turn out that Trump stole
BOTH elections.
TotallyNotVillain
Just remember: there are a thousand different reasons why people voted for Trump. No group is a monolith, and the MAGA die-hards are not a majority. Most Trump voters are just desperate people hoping for some change (any change) to our broken systems. When Trump fails to deliver meaningful change, they will look for someone else to follow.
stevestevensonthesteve
Yeah like I said, the pro-trumps and don't cares/trump-leaning outnumber us.
DesdemonaMoor
He has an entire corrupt legislative party behind him, a stacked SCOTUS and sycophants in cabinet positions with no ethics or moral compass. All we can do is protest and be allies/defenders to those they're trying to erase and do our best to survive the next 4 years.
cmsport2
The next 2 years. Historically, Congress flips against whichever party is in the White House during mid-terms. If we start getting out the vote and supporting state level races now, we have two years to roar back with a vengeance. It's hard to feel hopeful, but it's the most actionable, proven thing we've got at the moment.
Thoth43
Nah. There's not much we can do. America spoke decisively with their votes and it wasn't just white people. Just about every demographic increased votes for Trump than in 2020. Black women, I believe are the only exception.
Raikupath
I only ever hear you cowards speaking of voting when the entire system is fucked. I never hear you guys talk about getting together and overthrowing the fascists like you're supposed to because you don't want to get out of your comfort zone.
Thoth43
Why would I fight to overthrow the will of the American people?
yn44367
This thread is wild. Most of us didn’t vote for him (I sure AF did not). Beyond voting and or donating, what is your bulletproof anti-fascist playbook? There are several countries that would like a copy right now. I know lots who did direct action legal work, door knocking, poll working etc. There are about 1,000 armchair revolutionaries on this app and none of yall have come up with a better idea than to tell us what we’re already know: we failed. Thanks for fucking stopping by.
KleptoKea

We’re not the ones you’re mad at.
yn44367
You took that as an insult? My sincere apologies. Conversely, whether you intended it as insult to suggest that there was more we could do to stop Trump or more we can do now came across as at best naive and at worse piling the fuck on. Also, I read the advice in the link and it’s all fine, it just won’t make a damn difference to have stopped or to stop Trump. So again, tell us from afar what we should do now, because that’s the conversation your post invited. So let’s talk.
GriffinMann41
I mean there *is* a fucking ton more people could be doing. Organizing and getting out into the street to fucking riot when he starts doing insane shit would be the literal bare minimum. But people are content to sadpost on imgur and other social media, clearly, instead of *actually* doing a goddamn thing
yn44367
Again, tell us what it is besides either an ironic post about online activism or telling some dude with kids being a vigilante is an option. People who opposed Trump did what they could. The fact that he won shouldn’t be license for the rest of the world who hates Trump to pile on the Americans who also hate Trump. That’s what this post is about and why it’s really poor fucking timing…
GriffinMann41

I think that we know in our hearts what that answer is and it requires the acceptance of great self loss

yoursexyneighbour
Ok but WHAT TO DO?
KleptoKea
Why do Americans need help with this? So many other populations out there organising and mobilising, and Americans, after all the "Punch a Nazi" memes they've posted are showing too be all sizzle and no sausage. There are those among you who are organising. They'd wish tuketuke fellow Americans would help instead of giving up. Find them, help them, however you can. Become a nationwide team. Even printing flyers for any resistance is better than doing nothing.

There's more to this than the Will of The Working folk, it's the Will of The Moneyed Elite that comes into play. while the Honest majority of the country might be in opposition to the "Leadership" the Vocal, Rich, Minority hold all the cards, and have stacked the deck in their advantage.
mixiekins
Yes, exactly, the problem is that there are a handful of rich fucks that keep putting the rest of us against one another. Division has been the most powerful tool to keep themselves in power. We have strength in numbers, united we are stong, but the problem is like the prisoner's dilemma and similar experiments where it's sjown time and again that people will sell out their peers to save themselves rather than realizing that a ceasefire and joining forces would make a better outcome for all.

For some, quite sadly, Amazon is the only option for shopping. I've been moraly and ethically opposed to both Amazon and Walmart for years. I have the luxury of being able to shop local, for most things.
DrFartGood
How is Amazon the only option for shopping? You can literally buy anything you find there directly from a brand or manufacturer.
DarkJaeger
Go out into the hyper rural markets, and Amazon will have the cheaper shipping options.
MendoncycleSmith
So, you're not from here, nor do you live here, so I can forgive your lack of grasping the situation. Less than 1/4 of the voting age populace voted for him. That sucks, but it's also what happened. The rest of us, voters or not, have zero ability to do jack shit at this stage, so I will take umbrage at your insinuation that we're all over here faffing about while there's something to be done. There isn't, at least not till the next election and who knows how effective that'll be.
KleptoKea
The other populations around the world who are fighting with all they have to protect their freedoms, democracies and loved ones would have choice words for you.
AllTheKitties
KleptoKea
This is sharing my fears with you, for my kids, for your kids, for this world. I literally begged you guys to work together. It's not a pride thing. Too many of you have had a kneejerk misinterpretation of this post as being some kind of condescension.
AllTheKitties
Well then go back and read your words from the perspective of an American. Because I'm an exhausted scared American that doesn't know wtf to do, but I just keep getting told this vague shit about "getting up" while others say that it's my fault that it's all happening because I haven't somehow made it stop yet.
I'm focusing on personal/hyper-local stability and safety. It's all I can do. If I find more I can do, I will. But this call to action thing is not helpful.. It's too vague to be useful.
MediocreTheropod
Step 1 for me was to get involved directly in my local community. Have a topic you are really passionate about? Let's say it's animal welfare, search "animal safety non profit Your City" and see what pops up. Call them up, ask one question "How can I get involved?" That one call can be the catalyst to learning about so many things you can do (within your abilities too- I say this as someone with a chronic illness) to get started, and bonus- you'll meet so many more folks locally to organize with
wookietiddy
Damn bro I still have to fucking work. I asked my wife "at what point do we join a protest" or something like that? And she didn't have an answer either. I'm not worried about myself. But I have enough empathy and knowledge that it could affect me eventually because I don't mess around with nazis. So I guess I should just get out and protest.
LincLoud
I know people post "no defeatism" but the average person isn't a fighter. They're scared. They have close family, friends, and sometimes children. They have a lot to lose personally and see the bigger fight as something they wish they could take part in but worry that they'll either die in the process and leave those closest to them or worse, those closest to them will be used against them/threatened. For many, the fight is over. They'll just try and keep their heads down now.
oldradios19772000
What are we supposed to do? Apparently breaking the law is not enough. The orange guy literally got away with trying to stage a coup. We have a supreme court that is stacked up against us. And now these people have complete control of the government with nothing to stop them. We've had eight years of this. Our legal and political system simply failed us completely.
KleptoKea
If I as a Kiwi can find the Americans here and elsewhere who are trying to organise, you certainly can too. I'm obviously not going to reveal them here but it really isn't hard to find the good among you to join forces with. Find one another. Unite and organise. Do whatever you can, no matter how much or little that may be.

TrumpRapesChildren
Dear Kiwi, while I appreciate the sentiment, it's not as easy as "go out and fight". They control absolutely everything. Their rabid followers are 100% prepared to be violent and the judicial system is packed with his supporters. The police are not your friends or allies. The military is a crap shoot because #unlawfulorders can be ignored but he still has followers there. You don't seem to realize if he said the words "open season on trans folk with no punishment" it'd be purge day. I'm trans.
TrumpRapesChildren
I spent most of my younger years in the infantry. Fought in several theaters. Got the wounds and mental trauma that goes with it. I'm done fighting. I have a family to take care of. So we left the US. But all of my income is tied to my VA benefits so if they fully defund that, I have nothing. It's too goddamn hard to get jobs in other countries so US citizens would literally be STUCK in the us with nowhere to go. No money. No food. Hard to fight with an empty belly.
TrumpRapesChildren
It's incredibly easy to sit safely afar and bark orders and utter empty suggestions and words of non empathetic meaning to people who are already scared to death. We have no healthcare. Not everyone owns guns. Ever fought in a war? I have. It's not fucking easy. Can you comprehend the sheer size of the US? 1500 miles gets you just under half way across it. To drive takes 4 days. To fly takes 4 to 5 hours. 2 whole mountain ranges. Friend, reach with your hand, don't just point your finger.
littlecoatfatguy
Kiwis can get a tourist visa easily, come on over and roll up your sleeves.
KleptoKea
We'd be deported or imprisoned for acting as foreign agents interfering with your country. I find the suggestion that you would want foreigners to come and save your democracy for you extremely self deprecating toward yourself and your People. There are 330 million of you Americans. Surely there are enough among you with a spine and a will to take responsibility for yourselves, your country and your democracy.
AllTheKitties
You think we wouldn't get arrested for that shit? If you're not willing to sacrifice your freedom for it what makes you think all of us will?
littlecoatfatguy
Be the change you wish to see, or sit down and have a seat.
Your country also recently threw out a good leader for a right-wing POS, maybe tend your own garden.
And enough with the "we'd be imprisoned" drama, there're a thousand un-glamorous ways to help without the swashbuckling heroics you imagine."
KleptoKea
Maybe you should tend to yours instead of wasting your time googling whatever negativity you can find to silence people asking yours to not let the Nazis win. Our "Right wing" gov is only right wing by our standards. By American standards, it's still left wing, making your own democrat party look right wing. And even then, take a moment longer to learn about my country. See our protests. See the hikoi we lead from around the country against that gov. We act. Time you Americans do the same.
Aerina
You say to learn about your country, but you forget what our armed forces are willing to do to peaceful protestors. Compared to that, it makes your protests look like tea parties. Maybe try protesting with a barrel aimed at your head sometime and see if you can still act high and mighty.
KleptoKea
When you tell me I'm high and mighty for wanting you Americans to wake up in a democracy, not a dictatorship, and wishing that you won't nuke me, my children and all of us in the world into oblivion, it tells me a lot.
littlecoatfatguy
The insane level of ignorant arrogance it takes to assume no foreigner could possibly know anything about New Zealand without looking it up, while also presuming to preach moral authority.
KleptoKea
Well it's happened far too often to me, that an American who's furious about me wanting them to vote against a fascist goes and finds whatever they can trawl the internet for against my country, and then claim I have no right to an opinion on their country because something bad happened in mine at some point. I hope you'll direct your rage at your new Hitler rather than the guy who wants you guys to have a true democracy like we have here.
ReverseSyzygy
dude.
Most couldn't get above apathy to go out and VOTE.
Just to simply take a bit of time out of one day - if they didn't bother to mail-it-in - just to vote for the non-Fascist.
LARGEST. VOTING. BLOC. STAYED.HOME.DID.NOT.VOTE.
KleptoKea
The whole world is disappointed in the American People in that regard, I think (save people like Putin and Xi perhaps), but it's not too late for Americans to avert their country from going the way of Nazi Germany.
JustHereForTheMemes0321
I agree, it's not too late. The fight is just starting. Tbh, Dems literally switched (forced) a candidate out because he stuttered and was old. So the people ain't all to blame on that. You must also understand, that in some states they deliberately make it hard for people that are Dems or liberal learning to vote, which accounts for a portion of the no shows
TotallyNotVillain
Voter turnout was 64% this year, which is historically very good. The higher voter turnout may have actually hurt Dems though. Low information voters don't respond well to lectures on morality and labeling opponents as fascists (they view it as hyperbole). Instead, they cared about cost of food & rent. Dems just didn't do a good enough job with messaging to those voters.
KleptoKea
Honestly, these talking points don't stick outside USA. The man is a self confessed gleeful sex predator (grab em by the p*ssy) who repeatedly fantasised out loud about his own daughter. Those facts alone even without all the fascist stuff would've disqualified him in the eyes of a morally sound population. So to hear that he got elected because of party strategies and so on... It's just not the real reason. His power is a symptom of a sickness in American society.
TotallyNotVillain
When people feel like the world is out of control, and someone comes in and promises to fix it, many people are willing to overlook an awful lot of "morally disqualifying" character flaws. If you think that is a uniquely American issue, you are a pretty poor student of history.
KleptoKea
On the contrary, we learned exactly this in our history classes so that we as a population wouldn't be duped like the Germans had been, or like the Americans are now.
TotallyNotVillain
Don't be so cocky.
flipsy
Right-wingers are praising the Hitler salute. Half the country couldn't be bothered to vote in the first place. We can't afford to protest. We can't afford to organize. We can't afford healthcare. What do you expect us to do? CoNtAcT oUr CoNgReSsPeRsOn? Those that are part of the ruling party are complicit in this, and those that are against it don't have any power. We are in a dark timeline for the next 4 years minimum. At this point there is no "fight". There is only "survive".
rattleballs
About half the country supports this guy. The rest of us aren't billionaires, and we don't want to spend the rest of our lives in prison. There aren't a lot of actual options in a country that allows UNLIMITED donations to political candidates. Your country would be just as fucked too.
KleptoKea
Our country wouldn't reach your country's stage because we would never entertain the idea of electing a self-confessed sex predator who fantasises about fascist dictatorships when he's not fantasising about his own daughter on live TV. There are People in other parts of the world facing risks greater than imprisonment, still defending their freedoms, their democracies and their loved ones from tyranny. It's time Americans stopped making excuses for their inaction, and grow a collective spine.
rattleballs
What are you 12 years old or something? You certainly have about that level of understanding of how the world really works.
KleptoKea
Well you sure showed me with that preschool-level insult.
normalizebeingalone
Your post is unhelpful and you are also unhelpful thank you.
KleptoKea
That's ok there are many Americans here who share my feelings and pre-emptively apologised on behalf of their fellow Americans who make comments like yours. You don't need people in other countries to be helpful. You need to help yourselves and posting memes won't change the trajectory your country is on.
TheMershedPerderder
Guys, it's important to start somewhere. You can find any state or local official, and ask their policies about things you are concerned about. Leave comments, even if it is taking up an intern's time, ask what the official's stance is on something. It's not glamorous, and it is tedious, but it is something. https://www.usa.gov/elected-officials
cmsport2
I think you're the first person on this thread, including OP, to actually suggest and post links to small, actionable forms of resistance. You're right, resistance is tedious and unheroic when seen as one person. If all we've got left are mosquito bites on the ass of corrupted officials, we can sure make sitting on their thrones uncomfortable.
TheMershedPerderder
Thanks for the comment. Want to help spread that link around?
WitchIrkalla
Yeah ok great. I happen to be 🏳️⚧️. They're already coming after us. I can't shit in 33 states. They are making it illegal for me to exist, and you want me to....?
Can the rest of the world step the fuck up for once and stop bitching at us? We're trying! We are fighting a corporatocracy with a choke-hold on our government.
I've been telling people to burn all of it down since 08. Great sentiment Kiwi, how about solutions? Support? Clandestine foces? Or are you just gonna wag your finger?
thickythickydumdum
^THANK YOU!

WitchIrkalla
We have been trying to get rights expanded and free healthcare since the Obama admin. We are being drowned out by big money. Flint is still a nightmare. Police are more funded than they were in 2020. Roe is STILL overturned.
It's so easy to criticize us from a hemisphere away. Your country is 250 miles smaller, and less populated than my state and I live in CO. Try making 300mil people from everywhere, agree on anything I dare you
We are not asleep. Stop pretending we're ignorant.
KleptoKea
You can't blame us when we only saw a third of your People vote against him. Don't take my words as arrogant pontificating. They're words of fear. I'm terrified for my kids and the world, of the path your People are going to drag us all down if you don't stop your country from going full Nazi. There are 330 million of you. The good among you surely must be able to find one another and organise.
JustHereForTheMemes0321
Don't know why you got so much hate on this. I'm glad we are being criticized after this loss. But, you must understand, the power of choice was taken away from us also when the Dems made there own mind to switch candidates. A divided open had loses to a closed fist all the time.
kozzillakilla
There are 330 million of us, but about a dozen of them have more money than god. And when you break down 150 million people to nearly broke, they’ll take the fake economy promises. If I personally beat you nearly to death and gave you the option to keep lying on the floor or let me give you stitches, you’d likely choose me.
SmergBlaerghl
That's exactly it, this is systemic and the stage has been being set for decades. That said, knowing the mechanisms behind it, it's also clear that this will not stop until the people make it stop. Enough people have to get desperate and angry enough to say enough is enough and take to the streets, I think. It seems optimistic to believe that this will change without violence, but the option is to keep being squeezed until you pop.
WitchIrkalla
Mmm... i see you chose finger wagging from halfway across the world instead of literally anything helpful.
TI99Kitty
And what do expect someone on the other side of the planet to be able to do, when you say *we* can't do anything about it? People in other countries didn't fuck us over -- WE did.
MrIndubitably101
To give a straight answer. Everyone wants us to "do something" but when asked what that something is they immediately drop back into finger wagging saying it shouldn't of happened.
I voted against Trump, I have been helping everyone I can while being unable to afford to live myself. So when told to "do something" what would that be?
KleptoKea
I'm embarrassed for you, that you'd suggest other people do the duty you and your 330 million have to your own democracy. We are doing ours, working hard out here to defend our own freedoms, successfully for now, all of which will be for naught if your People fail to prevent your country from going full Nazi on us and even blowing up the whole world. The bullet proof backpacks on your kids backs are only another result of your own People's failures to protect that which should be dear to you.
WitchIrkalla
Pfft. I know your type. You're the kind of person that asks someone bleeding out why they didn't have fause at the ready. You should immigrate to the US. You'd make a great rebublucan lawnaker. Usless ass platitudes and all.
AllTheKitties
Wtaf... "your people"?? We don't control them! They are individuals that make their own stupid ass decision. What exactly, step by step, are we supposed to be doing?? Many of us are just working on surviving.
MatrimBloodyCauthon
I was on your side until now, OP, but this is not okay. You're making it worse, and should be ashamed.
GriffinMann41
Well, let's be real. Most people *arent* trying. Where's the riots or even fucking protests? That would be *something* to call trying. People are content to post sad memes online than actually do anything
owlcatsanctuary101
Yeah I agree with this. Maybe the media isn't showing it, or the riots aren't large enough. It's weird. Wouldn't surprise me that other countries are just as afraid and don't want to anger America by showing the resistance.
mothermushroom
I live in the Northeast, and in my Capital there have been protests every single day since he won.
MissSiesta
That's great. Because we don't hear about any protests, whatsoever
GriffinMann41
Okay. Are you out there with them? Are you supporting them in any way, shape, or form? Are you telling people about them, tangibly supporting them even a little?
mothermushroom
Yes, I've gone three times so far. Because I've been out so much I contracted a norovirus and them now practically bed bound. Any other advice from the world's greatest activist?
ShrokNil
Kill one problem person and leave. Wear a mask.
mothermushroom
If you're wondering why three is a lot for me, it's because I'm disabled. I'm also a member of my local DSA and although I'm in poverty, I donate every quarter to their groundwork campaigns. Hope that's enough for you. I'm also wondering if you're expecting the same from every single mother, or someone working three jobs.
BigDaddysMeatWagon
I like your energy, but that time is over. All we can do here is hope and help people however we can. I voted. I donated to Kamala's campaign. I talked to people about voting. My damn state voted blue, but I can't change the morons in the red states. Any work I do will be undone by them, because the Democrats have not been courting the working class.
somehowiendedupintexas
Please remember that there are also millions of people in red states who did not vote for this, and have been working diligently against it. Can we please stop demonizing specific states, because there are so many of us who can’t leave, and are fighting, but the odds are stacked against us. This pushes folks away from the movement. Thanks
BigDaddysMeatWagon
Valid and good point. I'll do better.
KleptoKea
There are 330 million of you. It's time to think as a People, not as individuals. The good among you can find one another around the country and organise, just as other populations around the world have done throughout history up to today. Some of you will have more time, others less. Some with more useful skills, others less. Some with more resources, others less. So find each other. Help each other. Organise together. Do whatever each of you can, but as a collective. Don't just give up.
BigDaddysMeatWagon
330 million, of which 75 million voted for Harris, therefore have a chance to care. That's about 25% give or take. Only a small amount of those 75 million are in any position to do much at all. We aren't going to storm the capital building and shit on things. The reality is the DNC has been failing HARD for more than a decade, and we're in an oligarchy. The only way out of an oligarchy is violence, and how many are ready for that?
KleptoKea
Where are the Americans who see what's at stake and don't look for excuses to be inactive in the face of it. We see other populations around the world facing harsh odds as they defend their freedoms, their democracies and their loved ones from fascism and tyranny. I don't see them making excuses or just posting a Luigi meme before calling it a day.
NotACanadian
Okay, come over and help us.
KleptoKea
Do your own jobs for once.
RockKickass
Here’s the issue, until the non voters and slightly right fence sitters start feeling the pain, which will be soon, we can’t do a lot. It’s not 50/50 population, it’s a divided 60% and the other 40% don’t give a shit yet
DrFartGood
I’m not sure why you got downvoted for this because you’re totally right. We need to come together, not lay down and let them win.
KleptoKea
I really hope the good among you will find each other and do just that. It's never too late.
flipsy
They're getting downvoted because it's empty BS words. The time to think as people was on election day. Nothing they said in the message was meaningful, it was just positivity from an outsider's perspective that doesn't seem to understand how utterly fucked we are in the US. We don't need to hear another Live, Laugh, Love speech. The only L people want to hear is more Luigis.
Raikupath
Love how you people post Luigi memes, cheer him on but when it comes to actually going outside and fighting fascists yourself then you suddenly can't do anything. So sad. Fucking cowards.
flipsy
When we see Raikupath also doing something about it, I'm sure we'll follow your lead. Until then, we have families we need to provide for. As I said in another comment, we can't afford to protest or organize. Majority of America lives paycheck to paycheck, and missing a day of work could mean not enough for rent. Unless you're gonna do it yourself or you're gonna pay for our families while we're gone, go fuck yourself.
MissSiesta
Dude, Europe was fucked not so long ago. Our grandparents told us all about it. But you Americans are just lying down to die. You're letting them win.
Most Europeans know it's a continuous fight. You don't just give up. What about making sure the US is a safe place for the next generation?
flipsy
How do you suggest doing that? We have families we need to provide for. As I said in another comment, we can't afford to protest or organize. Majority of America lives paycheck to paycheck, and missing one day of work could mean not enough for rent.
anunexpectedgourney
Cool what should we do smarty pants? I'm already receiving death threats for being outspoken about it. My daughter received rape threats in elementary school because I laughed at Trump for being a felon. Go on whats your advice? Be specific, no more bland pump you up nonsense. Specific details of what I should do and how. Let's hear it.
AlanKesselmann
leave the country
thetaggtn
Alright there Richy Rich. Once I win the lottery I'll get right on that. Also, have you looked at immigration processes? It's pretty difficult to figure out how to navigate usually.
AlanKesselmann
look. be as pissed as you wish. but that is literally the only meaningful way how you can communicate that you do not want to live this way. That is what anyone else migrating is doing.
IhopeUgetwhatUvoted4
Sorry to say that we are going to have to suffer for a bit. You and people like you more than most. A french style revolution or general strike is going to be required to change things now and people are not feeling the pain yet to do either.

CerisCinderwolf
As an outsider (non-American) looking in, your country boasts about the 2nd amendment being created to deal with a tyrannical government.
Everyone knows what -should- be done about it but they're also smart enough to know that if you come right out and say it, you get arrested. Perhaps the sarcastic response isn't the best response here.
pelon77Cleveland
Thank you for saying what I have been thinking.
StellarJay77
Organize and work together with other like minded individuals. For the time being it's still possible to find others who believe the same as you. Use the same tools these sycophant deploables found one another. The push has been towards division for a reason and has to be fought against. Do not let them divide you because that's how they win. Apes together strong.

Your daughter got rape Threats? That’s horrible. Hope you reported to authorities.
kravlin
who do what?

It sounds like the news would love to hear about the school that allows threats like that at an elementary school...
rubypilgrim
This is the heart of the case against Giuliani, and it angers me no end that once again he faces no consequences. This is happening because there are no consequences, because it gets them what they think they want, and because that's become the MAGA cultural norm for how to respond to "enemies". They get it from Trump. Idk how to stop this, but leaving each other to face this alone isn't the answer.
kazaamjt
Start reading accounts of European resistance fighters who survived. Learn what they did and how. Prepare to start doing the same. Pray it does not come to that.

If you’re daughter is being threatened and the First dimwit is going around doing the nazi salute, idk dude but it kinda feels you should be doing smt

CrownPrincessAzula
No one coordinates enough on encrypted messaging to do anything. It can be fun to think of liberals all signing up for the infantry then taking all those guns to washington but obviously that wouldn't work in practice. Sadly if people couldn't be bothered to put two and two together that maybe they should vote this election even if they don't like the candidates I'm hard pressed to believe they'll do anything necessary to overthrow the nazi takeover.
digiorno88
No one likes to say it, but the answer is violence. But a lot of people aren't ready to make that commitment, for one reason or another. There are valid concerns, family, personal well being, ect but the answer to this threat is violence

The only thing you can do is deal with the nazis the way your ancestor's did. Or you can complain and watch it all go down. Either way your comfortable life is over. Decide what you want
Glibson
Keep standing up for good. Speak out when no one else does.
Be the force for positive change.
Specifically get political - organise people, meetings, groups, find out how you can be heard, and get loud.
onemorethanme
Bit beyond that. Usual methods won't work. You think you still have democracy and laws that'll protect you. You don't.
Glibson
That doesn’t mean you should stop standing up and doing what’s good.
onemorethanme
Might be too late though.
meowingintensifies
100% this. it's easy to point fingers and criticize. actually helping and providing solutions are too much for ppl on the outside of this.

How about actualyl fighting the fascists instead of acting like the system that got you there is gonna help you?
MissIWasntItching
To anyone reading this, not just the one posting it:
If you and your family are receiving threats, get a lawyer and call authorities.

I have young children. I don't want to be talking to them thru a glass barrier for the rest of my life
akafluffy
boo fucking hoo, if your choice is talking to them through a glass barrier or watching them get drafted by Cheato Benito Mussolini and then never speak to them at all again, what's your choice?
MrIndubitably101
Yeah? You gunna be the hero then? You seem to be awfully sure about it without willing to pull that trigger yourself.
yn44367
Bingo. A lot of arm chair revolutionaries in this thread, ready to tell everyone else we failed but no one here appears to have been first up to show us the way. To anyone saying Luigi is the answer, seems fair to reply “you first.”
SecondAccountNr2
At least now we learn a bit more about why so many germans complied.
WhichEndDoITypeIntoAgain
Who said anything about complying? I'm just saying I'm not going lone wolf and hunting CEOs
SecondAccountNr2
Do whatever you want, it's your choice. That being said, do you know what germans were called that argued exactly like you do during WWII? Nazis. Inaction and compliance are the same thing, history does not care for your motives.
Selvtae
Whilst i appreciate the sentiment, if you, or your children are in any way progressive, all you are doing is delaying the glass barrier. If you even get a glass barrier.
I'm nearly certain plenty of folks in Germany felt the way you did back when it started there too, and it didn't matter to the Nazi's whether you had decided to let them trample over or not, they sent people to the camps regardless.
Glass barrier now, or your children in potentially far worse situations later is the road now
WhichEndDoITypeIntoAgain
Do you have children? Are you going to take up arms and start hunting CEOs? You show a very limited imagination by assuming my opposition to lone-wolfing means I haven't already considered the horrors ahead. Don't forget that packing up and running in order to get your children away from harm is also a brave and terrifying choice.
Selvtae
I live in Ireland. The last time we needed to, this country absolutely did what was necessary.
Whilst not perfect, the country has been on a positive path and generally very progressive since.
If there is no way for you to fight and you have the means to get your children to safety is absolutely a valid choice. But not everyone will have the means/option to run, and everyone who runs leaves the people left with less opposition.
LoneOrtolan
You might have to anyway if one of them is trans, gay or anything else they decide to outlaw. That's the sad truth.
You're choosing, along with a lot of other people, to preserve what you still have out of fear of losing it, without realizing that you might lose more by doing nothing.
I get it. I'm not saying it's wrong to want to preserve what you can. I'm just saying that collectively sitting on your hands hasn't worked out so far, so why think it will with what's coming?
I'm sorry.
WhichEndDoITypeIntoAgain
Im saying I'm not volunteering myself to go out and start assassinating CEOs. You assume that's the same as doing nothing. You are wrong and presumptuous.
I'm bi. I have trans and gay family. I live in Missouri. I'm way ahead of you in terms of worrying about what the future holds for my children. That's why they're getting passports.
pumpkinpiepatch
We are too busy fighting each other
LoneOrtolan
Yeah, except if you get caught staying in a country you're not legally allowed to stay in, you'll have bigger issues when you're forced to return to the US. That might paint a target on your backs.
As for what I assume, I figure that you did everything you thought you could in order to preserve what you have. I don't think I'm wrong there.
It's ok. You're opting to try to preserve what you have left. A lot of folks are.
But, it might be too late for that now. I hope I'm wrong.

There are already underground pro-democracy groups. I prefer not to name names but they exist.

Well, when those groups become above ground, then let me know. Underground anything means that they don't want to be discovered or found. Not to mention, aren't those groups supposed to stop stuff like this from happening in the first place? It kind of seems like they failed to me.

You ever read about the French resistance during WWII ?

They weren't easy to find back when they were active, being found meant they got shot.
