I wanted to punch his face in every scene.
savethephantom
My friend and I were talking about how we didn't like him, even though he wasn't a bad guy. He just seemed so disconnected.
BeerBatteredandBold
Reminds me of the dad from War Games.
sjyort
80s dad didnt have time for that shit. Wouldve just plucked that flowerfaced MF so he could then chill in his lazy boy with a jack and coke.
Whatismypurpose
What a potato
tallbo
His glasses are totes on fleek

I felt like this scene would've been better if they left the baby in the room with him... & the baby just gave him a "f**k you do now" look
Mellamew
Ugh. He reminded me of the dad in Edward Scissorhands. So apathetic.

I hope he's enjoying his chicken.

Enjoy your chicken, Ted.

That quote made me laugh my ass off because my dad's name is Ted and was basically the same lukewarm phone-it-in lame excuse for a parent.

Does 011 turn out to be Hoppers daughter?
Bhx1993
Yes
BOOM!
reflectedsoundofundergroundspirits
No. Empirically, they would have recognized each other.
Oh. I'm on ep4 and was just wondering if they are ever going to run into eachother and am I going to have to do manly things so I don't cry
You'll see how it works out. Not gonna spoil anything for you. That show is awesome.
merchantloup
i wish i could become an actor like him. show up, walk around. eat and not get too excited. man that's gotta be the dream.
dtxifaithless
reminds me of the guy reading the paper in Men in Black

Makes me think of John Hughes movie dads.

The X files's cigarette smoking man always said he loved shooting scenes in the first season, all he did was sit around and smoke!
BelfryBats
You know he seemed like a good guy despite not knowing what is going on or really how to connect to his kids...
wobbu
In the sense that a guy you pass at the grocery store might seem nice, yeah, I guess. Not enough screentime to really judge his character.

There was one moment that is all you need to see his apathy, in the last ep. The mom sees her son is alive and she cries and hugs him (1/?)
While the dad is in the background with an annoyed look on his face like, "w/e. I'm kinda cold. Shoulda worn a bigger coat." (2/2)
sillyblackcat
I hated him. He is a terrible person who doesn't care for his family. His kid went missing and was in danger and he didn't really care.
primorph
I didn't like him either, but it wasn't his kid missing, it was his kid's friends, and he was deliberately kept ignorant of the danger.
But he really should have realized that things were being hid from him. He was being kept ignorant and he liked it. Pussy.
I am talking about when MIKE went missing. And everyone kept saying "Mike is in a lot of danger"
EGOT
I really noted he was completely disconnected from the kids, meanwhile the wife was trying to be really involved.
Farbegn
I had so much sympathy for her! She was awesome and trying to listen and her kids kept pushing her away.
Now the mom definitely wanted to be involved and was overall very supportive.
I sort of got the impression that he seemed to try be involved but didn't really know how and didn't want to rock the boat.
Honestly, I think it was a commentary on the role of fathers in a family in the 80s.
It feels like there is a bit more too than that, but it was subtle. Like the comment about him sleeping on the lazy boy.
Oh yeah. Maybe season two will reveal more.
Oh come on! His kid is in danger and missing. Weird goverment guys Scarry shit. He doesn't even hug his kid when they find him. NO reaction!
Yes, but he was actually there. While he wasn't emotional he did avoid being negative or disparaging about anything.
I don't think just being there counts as anything in such extremes. Unless he is severely autistic, he doesn't care much for his family.
