also depends where the clips from. But I know most clips like these are from a handful of channels that are legitimate bat rescuers and conservatories. Source: I'm unhealthily obsessed with bats and follow just about every channel that posts videos and updates about their care.
don't recognize this one though, but that's not unusual.
Rabies isn’t really a concern with smaller animals like this anyways. Small animals like bats and rats rarely survive encounters with rabid animals to contract it themselves.
Interesting I will be honest I made an assumption based on my knowledge of other small animals. It seems bats have about a 5% infection rate much lower than other commonly rabid animals. I never considered that their ability to fly might actually make them more prone to infection.

I seems like it is fine but was like oh I don't want to agenda the ape so I'll have a lick

I read somewhere that bats can kinda be classified as Wyverns, I thought that was a cool idea

bats are cool. some eat bugs. but they also carry dangerous disease. i'd be more careful. like, i'd keep my distance and take a photo or something

Idk man, the risk of a bite or scratch and rabies being the death sentence that it is, you couldn’t pay me to get near a bat
demizu
Pay you?
No no, you pay the zoo to get to walk through the bat house, if it's not too full, that is.
Muffinburgler
Rabies is not a concern in Australia, where this was filmed.
shitheadtookmyname
You do have to worry about ABLV, a related infection, equally fatal, carried by bats.
spacetrashpirate
It could be from a cough or sneeze, or that tongue lapping up the water decides to lick the salty hand. Very high risk.
WorkerLurker
Saliva needs to get in your eyes, nose, mouth or an open wound. Doesn’t even have to be a bite. Always get checked out after encountering a bat.
Toqom
I frequently move bats out of my deck umbrella. I used gloves, though but they have never tried to bite, or lick.
WorkerLurker
It only takes once with rabies. Glad you’re using gloves.

of course it's a terrible idea. that's what makes it absurd.
it's literally brain melting disease. you don't take chances with that.
happyrabbitzz
Great for helping it, but doing anything with a bat barehanded seems questionable.
slightlybrokenegg
Fun fact small mammals like bats and mice rarely get rabies because they usually do not survive an encounter with a rabid animal

Magpiebones
Bats are one of the main carriers of rabies where I am. Bats have a strain of their own that spreads between bats instead of via predator bites.
