The original V series was amazing. Mike Donovan and Ham Tyler.

This show is also the basis of "lizard people in disguise rule the world". One of the show creators did an interview discussing this. He has mixed feelings.

I remember this show. It was an event that everyone talked about.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Someday, I hope, we will finally get a V series that gets a goddamned ending. There's the books at least, but they've tried to adapt the thing to TV a few times, and they always abruptly cancel it despite high praise and a strong audience.

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Just open up Fox news.
Although, it too, seems to have no ending...

Inspired by The Gipper.

Perfect explanation of today's Israel

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Sorry, but this is incorrect.

The show was not created by a holocaust survivor, it was based off a book written by a holocaust survivor.

The novel was not science fiction, just fiction. It was called "It Can Happen Again" and it depicted how Nazism could arise in the US.

It was pitched as a tv show in the 80s, execs weren't crazy about it and kept asking for something closer to star wars because it was so popular.

So it was reconceptualized as the sci-fi "V the Miniseries"

They villified scientists as well.

Neva Patterson (Eleanor Dupres): *holding a pistol on Mike* Why have you forced me into this position?

Marc Singer (Mike Donovan): Because you said it could never happen here. But we woke up one morning and we were in a fascist state!

Neva Patterson (Eleanor Dupres): Those of us who respect law and order are free! It's criminals like you who cry "fascist!"
Marc Singer (Mike Donovan): You're just as free as the LEASH you're on. You tug it too hard... they'll hang you by it.

This show freaked me out as a kid, Donovan was pretty cool though.

That is perfect - I loved V growing up, never even connected the dots before!

The big difference is that the V aliens presented as a friendly, non threatening group while MAGA has no problem with everyone knowing they’re coming for the rest of us.

You "never even connected the dots before"?

I have ZERO understanding of how you missed it.

There was something in the Bible about people wearing "the mark of the beast" on their foreheads.

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It was about the holocaust? Don't remember that.

Shit’s about to get real worse after tonight’s speech. Check out this heir to Cox Communications being arrested in Spain on demands of the US government to stand trial on donating to pro Palestine charities. Shit’s about to get way more draconian and Texas and Chicago was just the beginning.

i see zionists actually. maga might do this, they are ramping up the confrontation a lot les than i thought at this point so im down to 25% risk at this point. Zios have have been cannibals for years if nort decades

It would take Ham Tyler (Michael Ironside) to bring the resistance from talk to walk.

2 weeks ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I don't remeber the aliens wanting to eat humans. They just wanted to subjugate us and steel our resources. And later on tried to see if they could cross breed with humans. Resulted in finding out a chemical compound that killed them in horrifically painful manner

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh no. They definitely planned to eat humans.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Huh, guess I need to watch it again. What a horrible burden

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I think it was hinted at but never showed or talked about.

Not that trash from 2000s

2 weeks ago | Likes 77 Dislikes 4

The 2000s one was infuriatingly bad, but it did something awesome though: when they knew they were cancelled, they clearly said "fuck it" and ... sorta wrapped things up in a tidy way.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The only great thing from that 2000s trash was Morena Baccarin

2 weeks ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 3

Anybody know if it's streaming anywhere? In the US, to be more specific

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And Alan Tudyk!!!

2 weeks ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 1

Ok try dat.. the show was still trash :)

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

it's a holocaust survivor who teaches some kids spray painting a poster to paint the V for Victory "do it right - tell your friends"

so yeah, the allegory was there (and so was I)

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I remember watching a 2009 remake of this series when it aired but I didn't see all of it and skimming through wikipedia now it really seems like they lost the metaphor and turned it into a weird sci-fi sex thing

2 weeks ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 1

Yeah, that sounds like 2009 media.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

but the sci-fi sex thing was Morena Baccarin. so there's that.

2 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

The 2009 remake was super awful unfortunately

2 weeks ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Yeah, even though they eventually brought in Marc Singer

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I wanted it to be good, they even had Morena Baccarin as the queen! Awesome choice! But th lost me after their big reveal caused chaos and destruction, but then th made a speech and people clapped, it just felt stupid after that

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I know, right? It's like they couldn't decide on what kind of show it was supposed to be.

Peter Thiel and others have taken the works of those demonstrating how Nazi Germany and fascism seized power (buying media, demonizing the Other and the Outsider, and using those two to force constant concessions and backpedals by liberal parties), works intended to be warnings, and gleefully used them as instruction manuals.

2 weeks ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Author was a million % on point. Of course no one listened to the warnings of any of the sci fi, cyberpunk and other novels that included a dystopian future.

2 weeks ago | Likes 363 Dislikes 5

Fuck me, the rich assholes amongst us read those stories and basically use them as blueprints for how to do evil. And honestly... it's not a bad idea. The "heroes" in such stories, if they even have any, almost never succeed by any realistic or plausible means. Just kinda... hopecore into the winner's circle. So why not copy the villains? They would actually win in reality as we're seeing today.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not magic or even amazing prediction. I think the older you get the more you feel time... condense, and realize that 40 years isn't actually a long time. Basically Scifi often just extends what's ALREADY HAPPENING with a theoretical: "but what if X was really exaggerated?" and that's how you get utopian/dystopian fiction. The point is all you have to ever do is look around, even. The scifi warnings are nothing special, just extensions of the daily shit.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No they saw the warnings as something to strive for. They dream about it for some reason, even, and lets admit it, they know they would be at the bottom of the stack in whatever dystopian future was created from the imagination. Even knowing they would be (at best) homeless and starving, they vote for it. Each and every time.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Turns out “It Can’t Happen Here“ was not a warning, it was a dare.

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Kind of like Orwell yeah? Animal Farm and 1984. Or Bradbury and Fahrenheit 451.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I mean, I personally felt like it was safe to ignore the short story where everyone turns into cactuses

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They took it as an instruction manual. Same with the book 1984.
I can't believe we were taught not to fall for it in school.. and here we are.

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Trump is like Reagan, a useful idiot. Both are the result of other powerful people using a tool to achieve policy and other gains.
Project 2025 is an example of that power behind the throne.
Nixion's staffers and backers were who propped up Reagan and wrote his policies, those same people staying in the GOP Whitehouse for decades.
Its the names you dont see in the news everyday, or at least didnt in the past. They are the planners, scheming away at ways to get rich and powerful.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Because those works are never actually about the future, they're about what was going on when they were written

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ehhh, the fuckers in charge don’t have the ability to pretend to be ‘friends’. I’m shocked how many people just don’t care that they’re monsters so long as they get to ‘own the libs’

2 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The warnings never include a solution what we do with people who fall for that stupid shit.

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

They do if you read them, typically resolved with massive amounts of violence, people held accountable, and a unifying will to never travel that path again.
In the stories that have a future, the example above was Star Trek.
Revolution and resistance is always the solution, never roll over and play dead. Comply just enough to put a wedge in and wreck the machinery of power.
Also a lot of self sacrifice, but that is what made them heroes.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The solution is usually Educating them, so they dont fall for stupid shit, but the monsters go after the schools decades in advance D:

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Education is very important to prevent it happening again, hence why destroying our education system is a key element in their attacks on us.
Without education there is no one to call out their lies about the past.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I forget where I read "Sci-fi isn't an imagined future, it's a commentary on the present" but it's a point that seems to sail over almost everyone's head

2 weeks ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 2

Exactly that. Everyone's always like OMG THIS FICTION PREDICTED X but like, shit was already going down that road. You'd just need to look around. Scifi exaggerates a feature or two of a society and takes it further to speculate where it might go, for good or bad. It isn't a psychic magical phenomenon.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Basically all art and media are representative of the current times. That's why they want to kill them so bad. AI is awesome cause you can literally program it to change the narrative and not a single moral in the code.

I want to make a response about this, but my satire button is a bit broken today.
I am old enough to have watched V on TV, I watched the whole thing change in real time but like it was on slow motion replay.
Terrible timeline 5/7

2 weeks ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

I, too, watched it live on TV. It was my favorite show.

I was also way to young to understand the nuances of it, as an adult I deeply appreciate that the story had an effect on me.
