The real interesting bit is early scientists thought that they were all "amines" aka amino acids. Amine/amino just means it contains a hydrogen/nitrogen bond. So "Vital" "amines" or vitamins. Later on they found other required nutrients that weren't amines but the name already stuck.

They do a vitamin k injection for clotting and they also put a paste on the eyes for gonorrhea. The injection helps prevent internal bleeding in vitamin k deficit children. Its effective at avoiding vkdb. But its something that all kids get at birth. Doesn't mean all kids require it though its simply a precaution to an avoidable problem. Ppl talk to your dr. Though.

I have a blood condition that's hereditary and it was opted out. So kids have and will survive without it actually. All around the world kids are born without the injection. But. There is always a risk to be weighted with your Dr. And mortality rates obviously are effected by early childhood issues. You COULD end up with issues though for sure. Its not a guarantee though
