I re"gif"ted this. It was on FP yesterday, but it cropped out the first and last moments. It is just a few frames, but I feel as though they are important and insightful. This little girl for a brief moment forgot her name. The trauma of the events leading up to this moment have had an effect on her and she is fatigued and hungry. She smiles because her culture teaches her to smile. She comes from a paternal society and she just lost her father - meaning she lost almost everything.

There are still very important things going on abroad and the refugee crisis is still very much an important issue.

I've seen those eyes before. Eyes of the broken. Bless her heart.

This broke my 22-year old seargant heart. Terrible. I wish we could take them all to safety. Permanently. Just, terrible.

I'm crying and my daughter is wondering why... I show her this and all she says is "well did she eat?!"

I like dark humour but making fun of this makes you a cunt

That poor little baby girl. She looks around my nieces age, prayers for her.

I feel like to some people the only "crisis" to worry about is the fact that refugees want to come here.

I just want to hug her and protect her from this cruel world

I'm not as strong as this little girl...I'm holding my dog and sobbing in his fur...my heart is breaking and I feel helpless. Who are we?

God damnit, I'm on vacation. My feels are only supposed to be happy ones. Not soul crushing.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm so sorry. Enjoy your vacay and then come home and be sad.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Thanks, we need some perspective. Reality is often harsh.

Her eyes speak volumes.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 460 Dislikes 3

The "I've seen too much" dead eyed smiled as she answered "i don't know" to a simple question like what her name was heart wrenching

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Don't look away from this. We can help her.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Want to help her? Kill the oil industry, kill privatization and globalization. Secure fre trade for all.

And impeach al the politicians

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

sadly hundreds of children died today because warlords hid behind religion as an excuse for their actions

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

dont feel bad you posted or argued online so you are a hero

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

tell me again why your religion is better than mine?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The sheer resilience. The fact that she tries to hold it together is amazing!!!!! There are adults that would have crumbled into pieces.

10 years ago | Likes 73 Dislikes 1

Like me, right now, just watching this

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The physical and emotional resilience of children is truly remarkable. It borders on inhuman and unbelievable.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The other side of the coin being, that childhood traumas tend to shade the entirety of the rest of our lives.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yup, shit's normal until you realize it's not and you are dysfunctional all over the place, where other people are perfectly OK :(

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

IMO this is the true crime of war and especially terrorism: even if short, it still leaves a permanent mark that lasts generations.

I wonder where she is now and if she has anyone left. The world seems so fucked lately. This isn't a life she should be living at all.

10 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Can I adopt her? ;-;

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I think she is with people. But they're hungry. In the full video (above) a young mother or older sister is seen petitioning for food.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

With that said, for a young Iraqi girl to lose a father is absolutely devastating.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I think it's been like this for a long time, but now we have better access to information. And we see it's effect in the western world also.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The hate on this post is appalling. How can you pompous 1st world hypocrites can even make fun of the situation the child is in?

10 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 8

This saddens me and I don't feel like making fun of it, but God damn, loosen your butt cheeks a little.

I saw another comment like this, I don't see the humor in the post. Where is the joke? I thought this was an awareness post!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well. I picked it up from user sub and if you go down the comments, you will see what I meant.Good to see common sense has finally prevailed

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Contact your local government and tell them you would be willing to house an "unaccompanied minor".

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

That sounds....really sketch. "Hey, got any uh...kids layin around?"

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Yeah, almost as dodgey as those weirdos that adopt people!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Meant it more metaphorically? How about you contact you local Refgees Welcome branch and offer to play some football, help with homework.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

An hour a month too much? Do you have a few extra dollars? Movie tickets or similar would be ace for them to pass on to the kids.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Broke? Maybe you can go through your old games, dvds, clothes, see what you aren't using. You got 80+ points for your comment, do something.

Same challenge made to anyone who upvoted the compassionate comment. There's lots of opportunities to make a difference.
