No longer will I jiggle everywhere when I run.

Aug 8, 2021 11:09 PM

I hate to do it, because I believe in intuitive eating and enjoying your meals, but I’m taking a stand. A few months of hard work seems worth it.

In the last 15 years I’ve tried every diet from 800cal per day to keto, and nothing works. Basically, my body would be great if I was in the 1800s during a famine; one slice of bread and I’d be plump as a Christmas goose all winter. Which would be great!! … if we didn’t live in the society we do.

I’m giving counting calories another go (but 1,200 this time), and I’m lowering my meat/carb intake (lowering, not eliminating).

I’m a short woman, only five foot, and I weigh 70kg. I also have relatively large breasts, so I know they hold some weight too.

So… I don’t have /too/ much to lose, but even 5kg is massive when you’ve got a small frame. However, I also want to gain muscle and fitness so I know I won’t “lose” as much weight as I expect. I’ll still be losing fat!

A perfect world says I should be 55kg… I’m not sure how reasonable that is but my goal is 60kg.

Thanks for listening and for your support. Hopefully something pays off this time.

Look into getting a food scale and measuring food by weight. People overeat because they count items. One chicken breast can be 3oz to 10oz.

I'd look into the work of Alissa Vitti, esp if it turns out to be a PCOS thing. She researched why standard diets/programs never work 1/2

For women and it's because the studies never took women's cycles into account. She bases diet/working out on your cycle

If I hear "you hold fat" I'm also thinking they're also saying you're healthy for your body. Otherwise they'd tell you to make changes.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

She’s not happy with her current weight. “Holding fat” whatever that means isn’t healthy. Her docs gave up.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When you say intermittent fasting do you just mean skipping breakfast or is there more to it than that?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I suppose it is a loosely defined term. For me, I consume all my daily calories roughly between 7pm - 10pm and do not eat the other ~21 hrs.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Tho there are many forms of IF that can involve shorter or longer periodic time frames.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I eat between 10am and 6pm to help with GI pain and as a side effect I've lost weight without thinking about it.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A common intermittent fast involves ONLY eating during a single 6-hour window each day. Example: I consume calories between 11am and 5pm.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've been very pleased with the results. Best part is, I still get to eat my favorite foods. It's more about when you eat, rather than what!

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I think it's separate from the usual panels for a physical, but its a pretty common test as I understand it

5 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Yes. I was just recently made aware of this and up to 10% of women have it?

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

This. Make sure you get the insulin CHALLENGE test -- regular fasting glucose/insulin measurements don't show PCOS (insulin resistance)

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Would add to all the comments, make sure you get copies of test results to see where they are in range. Results near the border of 'normal'

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

may not be optimal and can still indicate things aren't functioning well.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A sleep test might also be worthwhile. Sleep apnea can mess with your metabolism.

Don't wait. Do it now and make the process that much easier

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Others have already said it, but it's important: I wouldn't wait six months, I would ask for tests now, today. And if your current doc (1/2)

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

doesn't take you seriously when you tell your history, find another doc who will. This has been going on for years; why wait? Good luck! 2/2

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Doctor here, go get checked, do it now, test your thyroid and cholesterol levels and a1c at a minimum.

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I’m concerned that you haven’t asked sooner. You should do it immediately. You need to be your own medical advocate.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No no no ask now my thyroid was out of wack and it makes a hell of a difference

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Consider not waiting. Hypothyroidism can raise cholesterol levels and put you at higher risk of having a heart attack. :-(

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

It is not that simple if you have ever studied human biology

5 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 10

It is not. Not all the energy is used in human digestion.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It is absolutely that simple. The human body follows the laws of thermodynamics like everything else. It is not easy though.

5 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 18

I understand and I agree! But when I follow that rule, I still plateau. Hence why I’ve tried so many different things.

5 years ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 5

Do you count EVERYTHING that goes into your mouth. Its hard to believe that 1300 kcal diet dosent work, if you actually are eating 1300kcal.

If most ppl absorb 1/3rd of calories eaten, and you absorb 2/3rds, they will make you feel awful about over eating.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You ether have "cheat days" or you don't burn as much as you think. You can't "create energy" out of no where. Law of conservation.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

IANAD but the other half is body composition. More % muscle = higher metabolism = more calories burned. Suggest you look into weightlifting.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Calories in calories out is a drastic oversimplification of a very complex and highly variable biological process. Get your blood tests.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

The “calories in, calories out” method is incredibly unspecified. It’s not just calories but finding what nutrients biochemically agree

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 9

with your system and “click” with what you have going on. Honestly, if you’ve truly tried everything and gotten no results, it may be time

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 6

for radical acceptance. Also, definitely get tested for Thyroid issues and other hormonal imbalances as well. Good luck, friend.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

Same. I have a body type that's prone to easy weight gain but also have above average muscle mass without any exercise or weightlifting.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I've looked overweight my whole life. Been with a PT for a year incl weight lifting. Less body fat now but still look overweight.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Everybody plateaus as they lose weight because your body uses less energy as you lose weight and because your body adjusts to daily intake

5 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 1

I forget what their called, but I've heard ppl setting different calorie targets daily to average 1200 per day for the week. I haven't tried

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

It myself as I hit my target weight just standard counting, but I've heard it helps with the plateauing

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

This is exactly how I got past my plateaus in my weight loss journey. I was nervous to “up” my intake, but worked like a charm

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

When you plateau, I'd actually gain weight by lifting. Sounds counterintuitive but when you have muscle mass you'll burn more /

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

/ you'll burn more calories at rest. I'd stay away from doing a lot of cardio because it's a short term solution. Unless you can keep it up.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Your body cant break conservation of mass. Ingest less than what you use. And dont fixate on the number but on how you look and feel. G luck
