So it isn’t just you get less benefits for that month, it’s that you have to reapply to get on the program. Years ago I worked with a cashier who had disability because of back surgeries, she could no longer work as a waitress. She struggled to handle like 25hrs a week on her feet, I could see it. But she would panic if she got scheduled for too many hours in a wk.
Because if she exhausted herself pushing through pain and working those hours because she had good weeks and could, then she would be dropped and it would take 6 months or more to get recertified and on disability again.

I’m from Spain and live here, my knowledge about American politics are pretty low. Isn’t there any other political party besides Dems and Reps? Americans need to break that bipartisan system and fight for real politics.
There are, but our system isn’t parliamentary. There are a few parties that can occasionally win elections in the house, but generally they exist to split the left leaning vote and are propped up by right wing billionaires to do so. In a race where conservatives have 30% of the vote, there can be a democrat candidate, a Green Party candidate, and a worker’s party candidate, and one or two others, but the right tends to vote in lockstep, so it’s like 25%/25%/20%/30% and Republican wins.
They even do stuff like paying for an independent to run, who happens to have the same name as the Democrat candidate. Along with closing polling stations in Democrat leaning neighborhoods so the lines are 8hrs long, passing laws that make it illegal to give people waiting in line water. Or trying to pass voter id laws where they specifically exclude the IDs that black people are likely to have, like student ids from state colleges.
So the only real chance for progress is the primaries to get more left leaning democrats. I mean, famously Bush won the 2000 election because Ralph Nader split the left vote and got like 11%.
It is a common issue in countries with bipartisan systems, like mine (Spain), the left is split in several parties. It still does not prevent me from voting real leftist parties.

There are, but our system isn’t parliamentary. There are a few parties that can occasionally win elections in the house, but generally they exist to split the left leaning vote and are propped up by right wing billionaires to do so. In a race where conservatives have 30% of the vote, there can be a democrat candidate, a Green Party candidate, and a worker’s party candidate, and one or two others, but the right tends to vote in lockstep, so it’s like 25%/25%/20%/30% and Republican wins.

Taking steps in the right (left) direction is what needs to be done consistently for decades.
