Reminds me of the deli near my old job. They served hot food and that part was run by the owners Italian great-grandmother. You'd walk up, tell her what you wanted, then she'd say no, ramble at you in Italian for about 90 seconds, then serve you whatever she felt like, and you ate it because everything there was delicious.

My grandma died 6 years ago. Aside from being a wonderful person and my biggest supporter, I miss her cooking so damn much. Her meatloaf was my all time favourite dish.
Also my granddad used to go picking blackberries on the end of their road and my grandma would make them into a crumble and serve it with double cream. The warm blackberries and cold cream that turned purple as the juices leaked into it is a core childhood memory for me. I see that and I'm 8y/o again with no problems or worries.

I was that way with my grandmother's kitchen, especially her spice cabinet. When I was 6, I asked her to always have a container of Strawberry Quik waiting for me in the summer and that wonderful woman always delivered.

Mine was like that with Mr Kipling apple pies. She knew I loved them and always had a pack of them ready to go when she knew I was coming over.
My grandma was the kind of person where you couldn't go to her house and not feel welcome. I'd bring friends over to meet her and they were instantly just one of the family as far as she was concerned. I miss her so much.

I had this thought years ago. A Peruvian friend invited me to try one of his grandma's specials. I immediately wanted a restaurant that served her food as well as my Great Aunt Pielana's (Paulina us kids had trouble pronouncing it, so it changed) meatloaf and baked beans. I am glad someone worked it out

Probably just have to do a basic food safety course. Otherwise I would imagine they do it family style, with one service a night and everyone eats the same thing at the same time.
No idea where they would live though, but I amigine if it's a rotation they are locals. There's plenty of grandma's from all over in NYC.
