Finished product first

1/4 cup butter + butter for the container and lid, 3 cups Rice Krispies, 3 cups Cocoa Krispies, 10.5 oz package of small marshmallows, 1 tablespoon of peanut butter (optional), salt. I always use the old Tupperware container on the right with the blue lid. Butter the bottom and sides of the container plus the lid.

Melt the butter low and slow. Really, make it a little warmer than the “simmer” setting on your stovetop. Heat it until it browns and gives kind of a nutty fragrance. If the butter is too hot, the finished product is too hard.

Yes, that beautiful browned butter. Add those marshmallows. If you use a small bag of big marshmallows, the bag only has 10 oz, so using the 10.5 oz bag of small marshmallows is a win all around.

Add a tablespoon of peanut butter with the marshmallows and stir, stir, stir.

Yum! Resist the temptation to eat this gooey goodness right off the spoon here as it will burn you and you will have regrets. Remove from heat as soon as the marshmallows are melted.

Between the burners and off the heat. Add the 6 cups of Krispies (Rice and Cocoa) and mix with a sturdy spoon. Mix, mix, mix.

Dump into the buttered container, sprinkle with a little salt, and put the lid on to smoosh them down

This Tupperware container is the best, it is 1.5 inches in height and 12 inches across. The measuring tape lifted here but it is 12 inches across. With the lid on you can shake the container to get all those Krispies to snuggle up together real close. Wait until they cool to cut. Enjoy!

Chef’s tax.

Quinoa Rice Krispies?

They're good using Fruity Pebbles too

Thank you!

The key is to cook the marshmallows so they’re lightly caramelized.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Doesn’t that make the end result too hard? Or do you keep them on low heat until they caramelize, similar to the low and slow method to brown the butter? It sounds really good!

Butter...

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I like to add a quarter cash of small marshmallows when mising in the Krispies bc they only get half melty and leave marshmallow pockets in the end giving a layer of texture that is fun and delicious

Ok I will implement this next batch. Yum and thank you!

these are amazing.

Thank you!!!

my 2nd batch is cooling in the kitchen right now. I made some for family game night and they all got devoured.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What a lovely presentation of the recipe.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've made rice krispie treats at home many times. They always end up coming out harder than cement, unlike the lovely soft ones you buy at 7-11. Haven't been able to figure out what I'm doing wrong.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It’s the temperature of the butter, friend. Low and slow.

I do mine 3 parts rice pop 1 part fruity pebbles

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I bet those are fun!

I've been making Peanut Butter Tuxedo Rice Krispy Treats like this for years. People in the office love them

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I thought I invented these and here they even have a name! I call myself Chef Excellence when I make them.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I took Kellog's Peanut Butter Rice Kripsy recipe and just split the type of rice kripsies half-n-half between regular and cocoa. My favorite one was when they came out with the orange rice krispies for halloween so I did orange (same taste as regular) and the cocoa krispies. It looked awesome! Next halloween I'm going to try and do a big thin sheet of them and then use cookie cutters to make halloween shapes with the orange/cocoa version.

I just pour fluff into my cereal instead of milk every morning.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You are my kind of breakfast companion, friend

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh thank god it's cocoa krispies. I was worried you did something abhorrent like put healthy seeds in there or something

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

On my honor I would not do that to you, friend. That’s like someone mixing whole raisins in with chocolate chip cookies “as a surprise”. Wrong in any timeline.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Absolutely agree on all counts. AND I raise you adding crushed plain potato chips. If you don't do gelatin you can use a jar of marshmallow fluff with a bar of white chocolate melted in to firm it up a little

Tbh this sounds terrible to me. I love the light toasted grain and marshmallow and it'd be a tragedy to drown it out with chocolate and peanut butter.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

All RK treats are welcome here, friend

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Beautifully executed, but you're gilding the lily a bit.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I love how many different varieties people have added to this post. This is my fave treat, like if I was on a deserted island and I could only have one treat for the rest of my life fave treat. Although I don’t know how the magic supply chain works in that type of situation. I love how we were all introduced to the classic and so many variations have sprung forth. I should make all of the suggested versions and post the results. Cheers!

I legit thought this was a suet cake for birds tbh.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I accidentally browned the butter for Rice Krispie treats once - the most delicious accident.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Happy Accidents are the best!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They are the best because you used Meijer brand marshmallows.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Meijer Thrifty Acres!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Highly recommend kerrygold for this. The quality of the butter makes a huge difference

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you. That is worth investigating.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you're feeling froggy, experiment with different types of cereal. My favorite is Golden Grahams, top with a thin layer of almond bark (melted baking chocolate) to turn them into Smore Cakes.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes I was thinking about that I will try it now.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

wow those burners looks like what my grandma had in the 19th century.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yes everyone loves the classics

10.5 oz ≈ .04688 stone or 297.7 grams

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Thank you my friend. I added an edit with conversions.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Btw usually in europe fluids, flour, grain and, well, rice crispies are measured with Desiliters, not grams ;)

One cup is roughly 2.4 dl (236ml). So one liter is basically a quart. because the small diference doesn't matter in cooking! :D

Ikea have convinient 2.5dl cup that one side measures dl/ml and one side cups. Me personally. i use one full ikea cup for american cup, that is slightly smaller.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh, and one oz is 28 grams, but I use 30. Just for easier math.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Haha I am super familiar with grams per ounce ;) Thank you for letting me know this was a great addition to my post.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

ofc we have Tbs wich technically is 15g or 15ml... BUT! The large Ikea spoon is 20ml :D Damn those nonstandard ones...

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Am I the only one who saw this and thought it looked like a suet cake you'd put out for birds?

2 years ago | Likes 198 Dislikes 1

when i first look i thought it was a joke and it was made with marijuana buds

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I mean, they'd certainly eat it.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And then they’d explode as the seeds grow inside them. That’s what my parents would tell me

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For birds? Oh. That explains a lot.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Aquarium gravel for me.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah i thought it was a bird seed wafer lol

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I had the same thought

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

I 100% thought this had at least black and white sesame seeds in it from the thumbnail

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You had me at peanut butter.

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Welcome to heaven

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Same. Once OP added the peanut butter I went “oh okay, he’s not joking”

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I would joke about the check being I. The mail, being on birth control, or promising to never send someone to a nursing g one but I would never joke about peanut butter in Rice Krispie treats.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Peanut butter means so much to me.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

This sounds amazing.

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

They are my friend. I am all in with this recipe so I get the family size of both cereal types. It makes 4 batches.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They are. I don't know @PantsOfGlory, but I made an extra chocolately version of this last week.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And yet we are thinking alike! Krispie Friends!

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Melt about 10-12oz of chocolate into the butter/marshmallow mix on your next batch.

2 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 0

And use Cannabutter instead of regular

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes I have done that but then ate all the treats myself that day like the Cookie Monster I am. It was a good day, though!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Jesus. I bet it was a great day. That’s why you gotta make two batches. One with the Budder and one regular. That way you can eat the normal ones when the munchies kick in

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You are the common sense friend I have always needed!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Heeeeey another layer of goodness!

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Spread the melted chocolate into the bottom of the pan first, and keep it slightly warm when pressing the warm cereal/marshmallow mix 1/2

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

into the pan. That way you get a pie crust effect, and a more dense chocolate taste instead of it being diluted into the mix. Depending 2/3

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

on the pan you use to press out the mix, you might have to grease the pan with shortening before adding the chocolate, or use non-stick. 3/3

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Oh thank you for the delicious addition!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is it just me or are homemade rice krispie treats better stale?

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

I only really like them when they haven't even cooled down yet.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That, my friend, is the Chef’s tax and we are the chefs.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well, do they get crispier? Can you describe its essence?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I doubt it's just you, but it definitely isn't common...

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Only if it is the stale that makes them dense and chewy, and not the stale that get hard and crunchy.

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I've only ever had the dense/chewy stale

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is it just me or do the prepackaged ones taste WRONG now? Like chemically and stale and inedible

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

"Now"? They've had that same chemical flavor for at least the last 30 years I've had them.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It isn’t just you. I don’t know what is going on with those packaged ones.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

They are not good. Even a little.
