Clark shaves by using his heat vision against a mirror, so I’m thinking she could do the same to pierce her ears.

Not something new. Supergirl had her ears pieced in the CW show. Interestingly in episode 416 of the tv show, to make the clone identical to the real Kara, Lex uses a special tool to pierce the Red Kara's ears while the atmosphere is seeded with Kryptonite, which renders her vulnerable. And in some scenes in Superman/Batman: Apocalypse Supergirl is showing off some hoop earrings.
People will go through a ton of pain to get the aesthetic they want.

On Earth, women get their ears pierced because women used to be considered property in mesopotamia, and pierced ears was a traditional means of permanently marking a human as property in mesopotamia, and it spread globally with the spread of mesopotamia's religions. It's since been watered down into mere fashion.
I don't know enough about Kryptonian fashion or history to say they it's fashionable there, never mind a reason for only women (at last traditionally) to have their ears pierced.

That's exactly why it qualifies, because there's always going to be some in-universe way of handwaving an explanation for things that on the surface, don't make a lot of sense. Like the idea that Superman laser beams his face every day.

If you remember she flew off Earth to planets that weren't under a yellow sun so she could get drunk. She could get her ears pierced too.

This supergirl travels to planets with red suns to get drunk and could have had it done there. She also didn’t leave Krypton until she was in her late teens so she probably had it done on Krypton

She was born first. She was preteen when Kal-El was born. Through some faster than light time dilation stuff she was suspended in time and got to earth like 30 years after Kal did.

I recall in the comics she actually is from an off-world colony of Kryptonians around another red star, and Brainiac added it to his collection but she managed to get away.

That’s Argo. A city that was shielded so when krypton exploded it was sort of protected so Kara and a bunch of others were sort of stuck out there in the city until it was destroyed. Kandor was bubbled and taken by Brianiac for his collection. Each retelling of the events will change it a little bit usually it’s this. This Supergirl will be one of the last people to survive Argo as she watched her people slowly die.
