Bring back the yellow napkins and newspaper print tables and carpeted floors and people who actually take pride in keeping their restaurant clean, and then I'll be satisfied.
But you can hold off on the Garden Spot for a few more years just to be safe.
Absolutely. The damn original steak fries were the best. Sometimes, if you were really lucky, you'd even get them right as they took them out, and they wouldn't even be soggy for the first 5 scalding seconds.

In 1990, Wendy's introduced the $0.99 Super Value Menu. A Jr. Cheeseburger was $0.99. Adjusted for inflation, that would be $2.54 today. A Jr. Cheeseburger in the app today is $2.29. This means that the price of a Jr. Cheeseburger at Wendy's has DECREASED between 1990 and 2026.
And if the only thing on their menu was the Jr. Cheeseburger, you would have a point. Unfortunately that is not the only item on their menu, and their prices on average have gone up over the last several years.
Nationwide average gas price was $2.16 and a gallon of milk averaged $2.91 in January 2019 (pre-COVID). Now it's $4.17/gallon for gas and a gallon of milk averages $4.23. Prices on a lot of things have gone up over the last several years. That doesn't mean Wendy's prices have gone up relative to everything else.
So.. You admit that prices are going up on basically everything including food... But want to assume that Wendy's isn't raising their prices? The place the famously serves... Food?
Yes, but the prices have in fact gone up, and semi-garbage fast food is a completely discretionary purchase that is completely optional for everybody. People will still find a way to pay for gas because they kind of have to, and milk is kind of a staple in a lot of households, but they can then look at the price of Wendy's in 2026 and just go "Fuck no." and then just stop buying Wendy's entirely forever.
I'm happy to see more consumers choose not Wendys since they announced price gouging was going to be their business model. Just read a "big franchisee" declared bankruptcy today.
Dang, they’re stupid. They lost customers after changing their classic nugget sauces but refuse to bring them back and instead, have to come up with crap like this to try to cover those losses. It’s like watching Reese’s struggle with all the stupid new products they’re coming out with to make up for the loss of customers after they changed their ingredients
Wendy's is the only fast food restaurant not to buy into the Fair Food Program which ensures better working conditions for tomato farm workers and costs the company a penny per pound. They decided to save money by switching to Mexican labour instead.
Everything we liked as a kid is worse now with cheaper ingredients. The food industry sucks. Literally everything. I cannot think of a single example where this is not true, if someone has one please reply.
I really hope nobody believes anyone cares what color their packaging is. I'm a bit upset their marketing team thinks we're all so stupid that we dont see this is just a nostalgic money grab because the food sucks and is massively overpriced.
They don't get it. The saying's always been "Good, Fast, Cheap. Pick two." Wendy's and their competition chose fast and cheap. The food was never good, but..fast and cheap. You put up with it being mid. Now it's not good, fast, OR cheap. Which begs the question...why go there at all?
Wendy's monterey/asiago ranch chicken sandwich was the best fast food chicken sandwich hands down back in the day, like 13 to 30 years ago. Their burgers used to be damn fine too. But corporate sales and mergers ended up enshitifying the place. They don't even use leaf romaine lettuce anymore. They were tops in quality a long time ago but no more
They switched from white bags to brown to save $0.01 per bag. You think they wouldn’t charge for this? Yall crazy. Plus bring back the old spicy chicken sandwich. The new one fuckin sucks.
They ruined their fries to make them "crisper for door dash" and then ruined the #6. I agree, the nee one sucks. Ive been eating the #6 for decades. Not going back. What's worse is, there's like no way to send feedback to corporate. No response on Facebook or discord, no email I could find.... fuck those guys
I remember people telling me "Oh yeah, Wendy's chili is really good!" and I was like ... "are things okay at your home? Do you feel safe?"
I mean, it's good ... for fast food, I suppose, but it's not good for chili. I mean, at least it has beans, but I mean, it's ... eh...
On the other hand, they've done awesome improving the quality of burgers in the last decade and a half. What they should bring back their thick steak fries.
Lol remember that whole thing back in '05 where a lady claimed she bit into a severed human finger in her Wendys Chili? Turned out to be a hoax (of course) but man I remember the firestorm that spun up
I loved the Story about the guy that "found" a dead rat in can of pepsi or Coke iam not sure right now and they proved its impossibel because at the time he would had buy the can that Rat would have been just another liquide in that can
I was going to say their burgers have onto gotten worse over the last 16 years. When they did the revamp back then it was good, but it’s only gone downhill.
Worked at wendys in my teens. The chili is made from hambergers that sat on the grill too long wo enough orders to use them. They go into a bin, then chopped at end of day and put in the freezer. Morning, pull them out, shove them into a big pot along with dehydrated chili mix and add water. Let it cook. So it's just overcooke meat with cheap chili mix to keep from wasting overcooked meat.
Our cooks were good about not over-producing too much meat, and our chili demand wasn't too high. So, they'd have a bin they'd slowly fill up over the week and put back in the walk-in fridge. One time the manager asked the cook to purposefully make some chili meat, b/c we didn't have enough.
Whoa, how old are you that you think Wendy's somehow "improved" the quality of their burgers? Shit ever have a baconator ten years ago when they had decent bacon on it? How about a nice Dave's Double? Are you only used to post Obama Wendy's by chance? Are either 20 or 75 years old and simply don't remember how the quality was over a decade and half ago compared to today? It's not even close if you have taste buds and don't even factor in the price difference.
Private equity, greed, and general attitude of fuck customers so hard until they stop paying, but they did the math and if they raise the price enough they'll still keep customers who are more or less addicted to their slop and not lose too much profit, sucks. It's not like fat fuck or younger Americans with goldfish attention spans are going to take the time to learn to shop for affordable groceries and cook at home.
in the early 1990's their 99 cent daves doubles were a lot of meat, but 3x the grease, and the quality sucked balls. In the early 2000's, we stopped going to McDonalds for fast food because my vegetarian girlfriend (now wife) found out they soak their french fries in liquid beef tallow (they still do, look it up) and we switched to wendys for fries. I tried their burgers a few times and ...bleh.
As of about 8 years ago though, they suddenly got a quality increase, now edible.
Wait so you didn't like the old fast food because it was "unhealthy" and "greasy" dude why the fuck were you even eating it back in the 90's and 00's if that was your concern, that makes little sense. Seems like you would have prefered Panera back then over greasy fast food burgers. Their quality and portion size has certainly not improved over the last 8yrs. Ever put in a large order for a hotel chain ground beef, I have and it's the same for yum brand products. The quality is circus animal now
2.5yrs, shit you know your stuff. I spent 25yrs in the industry in various roles and even once had the honor of cooking with my chef at the James Beard House. I'm in my 40's and you are trying to tell me Wendy's has gotten better in the last few years. Shit Wendys was one of the few places open when I got off work at 1-2am and didn't want any of the food I cooked but couldn't afford. Spent from childhood to about 2010 eating it constantly, it has never improved one iota since then, just decline
McDonald's used vegetable oil on their fries for over 30 years, and the beef tallow flavorant was manufactured in a factory in New jersey (I recommend reading Fast Food Nation of you haven't). Not sure this is actually better 😛. But then just last year they returned to using real beef tallow so they're non-vegetarian as n again.
Huge if real because their fries tasted like rancid oil way too often and I never wanted to eat them but they’ve been so good lately I’ve been ordering my own instead of stealing a few just to see if they’re still nasty.
I stopped eating their regular burgers after the "upgrade" about 15 years ago. They're too greasy now. Spicy chicken is now my fave menu item but I will get the bacon mushroom melt when they have it (which was also better before the "bacon portobello mushroom melt" glowup). For all my bitching, they're probably still my favorite fast food lol
Yeah, I'd say the grease has gone down. You used to get one of those 99 cent double cheeseburger things and it'd soak through the bun and wrapper before you got home. The current ones aren't even close to being that bad.
We used to label them the singe, double, and triple heartstopper. Used to get the triple when I was in college sometimes. Fuckin dripping. At some point they did change the base sandwiches. Thats when it became called "Dave's". I think it started out as a test item, then just became the standard.
Back then it was a big, thick, juicy cut. Last few times I tried it, it was thin, dry, mostly flavorless, ground chicken patties. Went from my favorite to possibly my least.
I had to look this up: "Skyline Chili is a chain of Cincinnati-style chili restaurants based in Cincinnati, Ohio... Skyline Chili operates 160 restaurants in Ohio (primarily serving Cincinnati, Dayton, and Columbus), Indiana, Kentucky (primarily Lexington, Louisville and the Northern Kentucky suburbs of Cincinnati), and Florida... Skyline coneys are also served inside Goodyear Ballpark, the Arizona spring training home of the Reds and Guardians." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skyline_Chili
In Ohio is not uncommon for there to be cloves AND cinnamon in chili. I remember the first time I ever tried chili with cinnamon in it, my tastebuds had never been so damn offended and I was turned off of chili for quite some time….
I live around cinci and love skyline but I refuse to defend it. It's an acquired taste for sure. I didn't know it was regional until about 10 years ago.
Thankfully most people haven't had to interact with Skyline due to its smaller market area.
When I was pregnant my friends insisted I'd go through a skyline phase. Nope, never touched it. Instead it was 2 chili cheese burritos from taco bell before my overnight shift at krispy kreme lol
I mean, if you want to get technical about it, Skyline chili isn't actually chili. Same goes with the other plethora of Ohio based chili restaurants, like your Gold Stars and whatnot. Actually has a pretty long history, but short version, Greek immigrant arrives back in the early half of the 1900's and hits up Coney Island along his way to Ohio from Ellis Island. Falls in love with the cheese coneys. Gets to Ohio, decides to start selling cheese coneys but doesn't know how to make chili, so he-
-modifies a Greek lamb stew recipe thay he thinks to be similar enough, and subs out the lamb with ground beef. The chili dogs are wildly popular and he sets about helping other Greek immigrants with getting their starts with their own chili dog stands and restaurants. Which is why Ohio is lousy with them, and the weird reputation of Ohio chili. Because it's not chili. It's a Greek stew with hamburger.
It is Ohio's responsibility to keep that shit inside it's borders. That said its PA's responsibility to deal with Altoona pizza and not allow it to spread.

I stopped eating their regular burgers after the "upgrade" about 15 years ago. They're too greasy now. Spicy chicken is now my fave menu item but I will get the bacon mushroom melt when they have it (which was also better before the "bacon portobello mushroom melt" glowup). For all my bitching, they're probably still my favorite fast food lol
mikeatike
They have always been greasy AF.
quietwalker
Yeah, I'd say the grease has gone down. You used to get one of those 99 cent double cheeseburger things and it'd soak through the bun and wrapper before you got home. The current ones aren't even close to being that bad.
mikeatike
We used to label them the singe, double, and triple heartstopper. Used to get the triple when I was in college sometimes. Fuckin dripping.
At some point they did change the base sandwiches. Thats when it became called "Dave's". I think it started out as a test item, then just became the standard.
SedatedSl0th
The new spicy chicken sandwich sucks.
apairofpetducks
Oh no did they change it?? I don't go very often and I'll be sad if they changed it :(
SedatedSl0th
They did. It’s now crap. It was the only thing I bought from Wendy’s so now I’m just saving money, so there’s that.
Causeitsmadeofmeat
The spicy chicken in Canada is still good. It got a little hotter about 5 years ago, and is actually better
RocketKokket
Yeah it used to be my goto item in like 2005. It’s tiny and over seasoned now
SedatedSl0th
No they compete it changed it. Added pickles and shit. I removed the pickles and it’s completely different.
RocketKokket
Oh I guess to compete with Popeyes and chick fil a
Akurei00
Back then it was a big, thick, juicy cut. Last few times I tried it, it was thin, dry, mostly flavorless, ground chicken patties. Went from my favorite to possibly my least.
RocketKokket
Yeah it used to be clearly whole muscle like a chunk of the breast or something. That sucks
WaterUnderTheRocketAppliances
It certainly beats that diarrhea from Skyline
SarcasticComment
I grew up in Skyline territory and largely ignored it all together.
marsilies
I had to look this up: "Skyline Chili is a chain of Cincinnati-style chili restaurants based in Cincinnati, Ohio... Skyline Chili operates 160 restaurants in Ohio (primarily serving Cincinnati, Dayton, and Columbus), Indiana, Kentucky (primarily Lexington, Louisville and the Northern Kentucky suburbs of Cincinnati), and Florida... Skyline coneys are also served inside Goodyear Ballpark, the Arizona spring training home of the Reds and Guardians." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skyline_Chili
apairofpetducks
Now don't let this dissuade you from having Cincinnati chili, which is fantastic when not from skyline.
Khairos
Gold Star is way better than Skyline
mikeatike
I like that its spreading away from the PA border.

Who puts cloves in chili 🤢 🤮
SursieMetzger
In Ohio is not uncommon for there to be cloves AND cinnamon in chili. I remember the first time I ever tried chili with cinnamon in it, my tastebuds had never been so damn offended and I was turned off of chili for quite some time….
filteredcontextmeme
I tried it a single time. Never again
geekykeycap
I live around cinci and love skyline but I refuse to defend it. It's an acquired taste for sure. I didn't know it was regional until about 10 years ago.
SursieMetzger
I had never heard about it until 2 months ago Ted Nivison tried it in a video lol https://youtu.be/s8VIVvjQLe8?is=D6GBuOKrItgN4SSO
apairofpetducks
Thankfully most people haven't had to interact with Skyline due to its smaller market area.
When I was pregnant my friends insisted I'd go through a skyline phase. Nope, never touched it. Instead it was 2 chili cheese burritos from taco bell before my overnight shift at krispy kreme lol
Sageypie
I mean, if you want to get technical about it, Skyline chili isn't actually chili. Same goes with the other plethora of Ohio based chili restaurants, like your Gold Stars and whatnot. Actually has a pretty long history, but short version, Greek immigrant arrives back in the early half of the 1900's and hits up Coney Island along his way to Ohio from Ellis Island. Falls in love with the cheese coneys. Gets to Ohio, decides to start selling cheese coneys but doesn't know how to make chili, so he-
Sageypie
-modifies a Greek lamb stew recipe thay he thinks to be similar enough, and subs out the lamb with ground beef. The chili dogs are wildly popular and he sets about helping other Greek immigrants with getting their starts with their own chili dog stands and restaurants. Which is why Ohio is lousy with them, and the weird reputation of Ohio chili. Because it's not chili. It's a Greek stew with hamburger.
AshuraEidolon
R.I.P. the chili cheese burrito. At least the 5 layer burrito sans beans (I guess that makes it really a 4 layer burrito) makes a decent substitution.
apairofpetducks
Or the even older "chilito" lol
I think you can still order it, even though it's not on the menu.
mikeatike
It is Ohio's responsibility to keep that shit inside it's borders.
That said its PA's responsibility to deal with Altoona pizza and not allow it to spread.
apairofpetducks
It's too late... they've already invaded Indiana and Kentucky.
mikeatike
Has it reached Columbus?
Nikilynn0125
Altoona pizza is an affront to every species
mikeatike
Even worse than Ohio Valley pizza.
