Bro why is my hotel a liminal space?

Aug 18, 2026 8:22 PM

I’m at the hotel. I’m at the prison. I’m at the combination hotel and prison.

Ah yes, the great inside outdoors.

I feel like this is somewhere very hot outside.

Your hotel was a motel but it was probably easier to secure and air condition and clean with an added loby space that would have formerly been a parking lot

I would love to have the money to buy a place like this and set it up for playing D&D and other games.

Remove the roof and the far wall, and it is a Motel. It is an indoor Motel. It is brilliant. It is disturbing. I want to stay there. I bet the sound is something else.

Season 3 of Severence

The front desk should be in the center for the perfect panopticon vibe.

We call this the front rooms...

That takes me back. About a decade ago I was a beverage machine technician. I spent 3/4 of every month on the road fixing and maintaining beverage machines mainly in gas stations. I saw over 500 cities and towns and just as many hotels. There are so many massive old hotels in towns that used to be much more popular but have since declined. So many amazing liminal spaces. After years of doing it the liminal nature of so many hotels got to me more than any else.

It's a big empty indoor space that makes it easy to hold events. They probably rent it out

1 week ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I think it's just roofed, not indoor - each room has a wall-mounted AC unit

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This was 100% a prison at some point.. O.o

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I like the room AC units heating up the courtyard.

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If the hotel is anywhere near capacity and it's a hot day, inside of the Courtyard must sound like living next to a Datacenter.

The combination hotel and prison on Jamaica Avenue??

There's one like this near Salina Kansas

"We got tired of sweeping the parking lot, so we installed carpet instead."

Good spot for a furry convention

Prefab at it’s best! Where’s the pool & gym?

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wish I was there. A nap would be excellent.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm getting a Severance vibe.

1 week ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 1

I heard that Severance borrowed it's office design from Backrooms but I dunno if that's true or not.

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

Eh. More like they’re both inspired by the liminal space of office hallways. Featureless, uniform, and maze like.

Hotel California?

1 week ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Nuthin like the warm smell of colitas in the morning!

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Did they take a motel and slap on a cheap roof and carpet over a parking lot?

1 week ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

There are even gaps on top of the motel units where the beams that hold the roof on are just exposed to the sky

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's what I was thinking.

1 week ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Considering the AC units on each hotel room/suite that definitely looks like whats happened

1 week ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

There's so much room for activities

Pretty sure that used to be a prison

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wow! I was gonna ask if that was the Holiday Inn Holidome in Golden, CO, just outside Denver on Colfax.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The reviews.... sounds terrible.

1 week ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

This is an old rehabbed Holiday Inn, source i'm an old guy

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Used to be a Ramada Inn. And this is exactly what a lot of Ramada Inns looked like.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I don't know, I kind of like it. Better than having the central court wide open with a huge patch of hot-ass blacktop between them.

1 week ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 1

Ya I am vibing. Could use a little more green and maybe a nice koi pond, but I'm down with it.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Given Liminal spaces are usually the in between and semi permanent places, this place isnt too bad.

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It could have a nice patch of grass, some trees, maybe a small pond.

1 week ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

Turf grass is never nice

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

than it wouldn't be liminal

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

That straight up looks like a low security prison.

1 week ago | Likes 252 Dislikes 3

Reminds me of a scene from Squid Games.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I thought it was a converted mall.

1 week ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

so you telling me, those mf living better then majority ppl out there "free"? well that's kinda fucked ain't it...

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

One of the things that scares me about prison is the lack of anything soft. They give you a pad for a mattress and that's the softest thing in there. If this was a prison, there would be no carpet. You probably wouldn't even get the luxury of beige walls. They'd be white. And chairs with cushions... definitely not. They'd be plastic.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i'll take a white wall over a beige one anyway, but that's just me as i hate beige color just as i hate "warm" white lights, they drive me mad... gotta be cold white.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They’d be bolted down.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Looks way nicer than my apartment. Do I.... Do I need to commit a white collar crime?

1 week ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 0

Definitely don't destroy Flock cameras.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do white crime, do white time.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seriously. This place look pretty cool to me. 😅

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

3 meals a day, all expenses paid. Sure, give it a try and see which one they send you to. Try embezzlement first though and hopefully you get a decent lawyer.

1 week ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

First, legally change your name to something pretentious like Aloysious Wellington Fansworth, III.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A lot of homeless people commit crimes minor enough to get them 3-6 months in the winter in Canada. Not judging, I've been homeless twice, but if they can't get into a winter rehab, jail is better than streets in -20C.

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

No, you're not rich enough to go to the nice prison.

1 week ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

But if I steal enough money....

1 week ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Make a “donation” before you get sentenced. 😉

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you are rich enough before stealing the money, you skip the entire prison part of it. It's the american way.

1 week ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

If you steal five hundred dollars, you go to prison. If you steal five hundred million, you just bribe Trump ten percent and you don't even have to pay it back. This isn't even a joke, this is legit happening and nobody is doing jack fucking shit.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

First you have to already be rich
Second you have to steal from rich people
If you steal from poor people you get a finger wagging.
If you aren't already rich you go to mega super prison.
